The cast was perfect.
Another thing: one of the stipulations that George Lucas had was that Lonestar was not dressed like Han Solo. So Mel Brooks dressed him like Indiana Jones.
In my Jr. High English class we read "Spaceballs: The Book" in class, out loud, taking turns as a class activity.

Thanks for this one! Spaceballs is one of Mel Brooks' funniest parodies, where Nothing, not Star Wars, not Star Trek, not Planet of the Apes, or even Transformers: the Movie, was sacred.
Even the G. I. Joe Defiant Shuttle Complex got in on the act.
So many scenes to appreciate- my three faves are:
1. Capt. Lone Starr (a play on both Han Solo and Filmation's Bravestarr):
"The first thing we do is we Drop the matching luggage!"
2. Dark Helmet: "You IDIOTS! You captured their STUNT Doubles!"
3. Colonel Sandurz: "No, Sir! I did not see you playing with your toys again, Sir!"
Who would make their password 1234?!?!
I always thought it would be funny if Mel Brooks Came back to this, and did a Parody Special Edition, including deleted scenes, but of coruse, just filming new stuff with the actors as they were older, and sticking them into the original movie,

Brooks must have had the Moranis fever when he agreed to let Gad get anywhere near it. Did he see Pixels? Or any of his other ‘movies’.

They were talking about Spaceballs 2 around the time The Phantom Menace came out. I loved reading the novelisation as a child, years before I actually saw the movie on TV. So many great lines ("They jammed the radar" is one of mine).
Spaceballs does NOT need a sequel, especially with several members of the cast no longer with us. It didn't need an animated TV series either, but we got it anyway.
My all time favorite movie! Anytime someone asks, "What's your favorite movie?" , its always SPACEBALLS.
It wouldn't be as good without John Candy as Barf
It's not that he (George Lucas) didn't want Mel Brooks to make money off of merchandising... it's that he didn't want a line of merchandise out there that could possibly be confused with Star Wars merchandise.
Thank you Mr. Mel Brooks, Showing me not take my self so seriously. Although
your work is off the chart, it is one of the best things going in a world with out direction.

I saw this at the odeon leicester Sq I remember when the man playing the organ when down in his pit people cheered not sure they were happy what he played or they were glad he was going away 🙈
