  • Come along with us as we explore our 86th Pueblo Mágico - Tlatlauquitepec. We start out by hiking down to see Cascada de Puxtla Tepantzol, which is a beautiful waterfall outside of town. After, we head into centro where we grab a bite to eat at Café Colonial where they have some delicious ribs and smoked meats. Filled up we head into the main square and visit the main church (Iglesia del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús) before stopping by Licor Artesanal YOLA where we try and pick up some interesting local liquors. Afterwards we check out Cerro Cabezon where we are able to walk over a suspension bridge spanning a valley.
The next day we drive to the small town of Tepeyahualco and visit the largest and most impressive archeological zone we have ever visited - Cantona. After hiking the site for nearly three hours (the longest we have explored any site) we were starving, so we headed into town to visit Hacienda Tepetlcalli Hotel Museo & Spa - which also has a highly rated restaurant. Then on the way back to Humantla we finish up visiting two crater lakes - Laguna De San Luis Atexcac (which was absolutely stunning), and Laguna Alchichica.

This area was so impressive. I cannot understand why Tepeyahualco isn't a pueblo magico. It has the best archeological sites we have been to, a hacienda, and those crater lakes. It was one of our favorite days in Mexico so far!

We went to Cantona in early May, during a heat wave. We're both 70, so it kind of kicked our butts and we didn't see the whole thing. We hope to go back.
The Tlatlauquitepec/Tetela de Ocampo/Cuetzalan area is high on my list to visit.

I can see why it was absolutely massive but ended up being our favorite due to its size and the fact that there were so few people there. If you go back I definitely recommend the crater lakes as well. We stayed in Cuetzalan...that video will be out in two weeks.
