PoolRx will Solve: Algae Every Week, Constant Low Chlorine Levels, High Phosphates

- In my previous video I gave you an overview of the PoolRx product but in this video I show you actual test pools. PoolRx does an amazing job in pools that are feeding grounds for algae. Even with high phosphates or high nitrate levels, the PoolRx will completely turn your pool around.
I have been testing the PoolRx in a few of my problem pools on my pool route and the results have been great. These pools have constant algae, very low chlorine residuals week to week and high Phosphate levels. The majority of my pools are in great shape, but like any large pool route there are a few that need special attention.
If your looking for a quick fix for your pools water balancing and water quality issues PoolRx will provide that. I have been doing extensive testing on my pool route and the results have been amazingly good.
The first pool in the video has very high phosphate levels. The customer recently had their yard fertilized and since then the algae has been a constant problem. Chlorine has also been zeroing out week to week. Like all of the other pools in the video this is a large pool, over 25,000 gallons. So I used the Black PoolRx which is rated for 20,000 to 30,000 gallons of water. One week after I applied the PoolRx the pool was completely algae free.
If you haven’t seen the other PoolRx video I filmed here is the link. It is an overview video and tells you everything you need to know about the product.
PoolRx Overview and Use Video: Eliminates and Prevents all Algae: • PoolRx Overview and Us...
Basically Pool Rx is a special mineral treatment that prevents and eliminates all algae in your pool. A side benefit is that since the chlorine no longer needs to work so hard, there is a greater residual each week. So you use less chlorine and the pool remains algae free.
To use PoolRx simply pick the right size unit for your pool; 7,500-20,000 gallons is the Blue Unit. 20,000-30,000 gallons is the Black unit. If you have a 40,000 gallon pool for instance you would need two of the Blue units. For a spa choose either the 100-400 gallon Yellow Unit or the 400-1,000 gallon small Black Unit. It is pretty simple.
Then you would just insert the PoolRx into your skimmer or pump basket (pump basket being the preferred method) and run your pool the normal cycle or at least for 4 hours. You also want to start with a clean pool filter, basically you want to circulate the mineral from the PoolRx into the pool so it is dispersed properly.
The Spa in this video was just getting hammered each week from the Orange tree above it. With the spa being heated all week and the pollen covering the surface the chlorine was being used up constantly. Since the spa is around 400 gallons I used the small Yellow poolRx unit designed for spas or small bodies of water. One week later it was completely clear and had a very strong chlorine residual.
The Grey plaster pool that appears next has had many problems since the D.E. filter had some torn grids and was shooting D.E. back into the pool. It wasn’t filtering properly for a couple of weeks while I got approval to change all of the grids out. The recovery was very slow so I decided to drop a PoolRx unit in to speed things up. After running for a couple of weeks with the new filter grids installed and the PoolRx in the pump basket the pool has never looked better. The chlorine is also very stable in this account now as a side benefit.
This last pool was a new account that I started. The filter was very dirty and the Conditioner levels (CYA) were well over 200 ppm. It also had a nitrates in the pool water. It was just burning thru chlorine and the algae was just not going away. After one week running with the PoolRx in the pump, the pool has cleared up and is looking great. It still will need a partial drain, but the customer can now use their pool and enjoy it in the meantime.
I can’t say enough about how effective the PoolRx product is. I have it in five pools on my route and in two spas and these accounts have never looked better. The product will last the entire season in most cases, 4-6 months. After that you can add a “Booster Minerals” Packet or purchase a new PoolRx unit. If you have a problem pool it is well worth the investment.

Can you use this in above ground swimming pools
Sure.
These will help whit the black algea ???
yes
I heard about copper staining using this. Will this stain a pebble tec pool?
If the pool presently has no copper in the water and you use the right size unit copper staining will not be an issue.
@@SPL Thanks. I watched all your videos on the product and got the blue/white unit for my 18,500 pebble tec salt water pool yesterday. No copper on my last water test. Battling recurrent yellow algae. I used a phosphate remover along with cal hypo shock then backwashed my DE filter after it cleared up in 3 days. Added more phosphate remover plus more shock. Now my calcium hardness is at 422 ppm and my cyanuric acid is at 137. I know it’s because of the cal hypo. I’ll drain half a foot and retest. When do I start using the Pool RX?
Can you use pool rx in a vinyl above ground pool
Yes
Pool Rx helped but didnt remove all the yellow algae , they even sent me a booster. I used Yellow Out last time and it worked better
Might be a filtration issue as well.
@@SPL i mean i cleaned them also , one thing to note also was when i used yellow out last year i alos had to put in alot of shock, chorine. With Pool Rx i didnt do so because the directions didnt say do so . Im thinking of shocking my pool now.
How long until it turned clear from the first application?
About 24 hour later
I love Pool RX for my above-ground pool. I have crystal clear water but all my water levels are super low. I use chlorine tablets. What should I do?
Add some liquid chlorine
Do you still need to shock and algaecide each week with pool rx?
No to both.
I have a problem with my pool holding chlorine, definitely want to give this a shot.
Should do the trick.
Same issue with my pool. I just ordered one!
We added the pool rx 3 weeks ago but still have mustard algae. Otherwise the pool is clear and beautiful. Also the free chlorine is not holding after shocking the pool. Any suggestions?
Might need to clean the filter at this point.
@@SPL thank you. We will try that.
Hey I hope you see this comment I know this video is old. Does Poolrx just stay in your basket all year long? Or is it only supposed to be used for a couple of days, then taken out?
6 months is the average lifespan.
I never heard of this product before I will have to keep this in mind if I ever have this problem thank for the video.
Thanks! 👍
If you add water to your pool due to loss of water or medal it won't work or last
Hi There
My pool is about 18K so i know i should be using the blue, but for some reason right now on Amazon the black is cheaper. Is it a problem using the black? Will it last longer?
For your size pool the black unit will be fine.
They work however if you need to maintain a residual of 1.5-3ppm of chlorine.
Yes sir. 👍
They work wish more costumers would buy
👍
I love Pool RX. Every pool should have one. I'm about to start my own route and would like to make this product part of my start-up procedure for new pools.
Yes. I just charge customer's at Wholesale cost to get the unit in the account.
Swimming Pool Tips, Reviews & How To -MrDgvb1 What's the wholesale price per unit? Booster pack? Edit: You already answered my question in a previous reply.
👍
The price varies on where you get it from. In AZ a 4 pack from SCP is about $195.
Where do you buy wholesale?
Man I have no dogs like that on my routes he's just chilling
DUDE. Pool RX is seriously magic. I have a 16.5k gal pool, so I bought the 7.5 to 20k size (BLUE). THAT THING IS MAGIC I TELL YOU. I was quad shocking, then bringing the TA up, putting acid to balance the ph to 7.2 so I could re re shock. I was doing that over and over again for TWO FLIPPING WEEKS. Pool RX comes along, I didn't even shock anymore, I just tossed that thing in the basket and let it for 2 days, I came back and it was so damn clear I couldn't believe it. The pool store going to be mad, as I won't be coming back. I learned a lot, baking soda = bring alk up, muriatic acid from home depot / lowes to bring ph down. Calcium something or other (big tub) for hardness. Soda ash to bring ph up.
I have done NOTHING except clean skimmer basket for last week, chloring has been about 1.5-2ppm which I guess is fine for pool RX. I am instituting a gallon or half of 10% chlorine (less 4$ at walmart, its pool essentials) here and there (trying to keep it weekly, maybe have to touch on it every few days). We'll see how it goes, got a month left of pool usage before I shut it down mid october.
It is amazing!
Love all your videos!
👍
hey why is my chlorine level looks dark orange color ? my ph level is very clean almost not red at all
help pls
Sounds like low pH or your chlorine level could be very high causing interference with the pH rerading.
i see now1 thanks for the info
After being introduced to the PoolRX Black unit, my pool (21000 gal) has been nearly maintenance free. (Outside of scooping leaves out of it constantly) I don't have to do anything dealing with the chemistry except test, and PhUp once in a blue moon.
Right on! 👍
I bought this thing put it in one day and the next day, the water was already clearing up, only complaint I have is that it stops the water flow a little. I think the pool Rex is to big for my pool. I don’t see a difference in size between the blue and black one
Is using one in an above ground pool ok? Or not recommended.
You are good to go.
I just bought some of these to try out on my pool route for reoccurring mustard and black algae accounts. I will do a video on he results thanks for doing s review on these!
~Clearly Seen
You will like them. Getting ready to purchase a bunch for the start of the season myself. Results are pretty amazing.
Between services does the customer add chlorine to keep levels up? I'm adding chlorine almost every day to maintain 4ppm.
How does a high CYA effect Chlorine, I though it was to prevent chlorine loss do to sunlight. Thanks.. keep them videos coming!
The PoolRx makes the chlorine more effective in the pool so you will need to add less chlorine each day. If you are using tablets that means if you were putting 2 in each week, 1 will do the same job. Same goes with liquid chlorine. If the CYA gets too high - say 150 ppm it still protects the chlorine from the Sun's UV rays but a few side effects of the high CYA need to me mentioned. You will need a constantly high chlorine level with high CYA 5 ppm -10 ppm for it to stay in the water, the kill speed of the chlorine is slowed down a bit and very High CYA makes the chlorine less effective against Algae. But the PoolRx works in spite of high CYA levels to reverse these effects.
Hey Paul, excellent point you make here about CYA/stabilizer. It is a sunblock for your chlorine however when the CYA gets too high out of range it starts to block or lock out your Free Chlorine and that might be why your having to add chlorine so frequently to maintain 4ppm FC. Hope this helps.
Exactly my thoughts. 👍
Do you still have to vacuum or will algae just go away from the bottom of the pool?
Most of it will go away, but some dust may remain behind.
oh wow, so this would work great for me. i have a dirt road, giant empty lot next door, a giant pine tree and 2 palm trees that dump into my pool.
also isnt this pretty close to what the solar ionizer does right? just dont have to clean it every week
Yes. Very similar to the Remington Solar which is also a great product. Would be well suited for your pool.
yeah i have the Remington already, worked great but after over a year the rod is almost gone and its $50 to get a new rod, so i think ill try this since i woudnt have to clean this every week
Why does pool rx turn my grand daughters hair green?
If there is a high copper level in the water when you insert the PoolRX unit it could be a rare side effect when using the PoolRX. If the copper levels are normal it could also happen if you swim during the first week after inserting the unit as the mineral might not be fully disolved.
Do you leave it in the pump basket? When do you remove it?
You leave it in for the season. It lasts about 4-6 months. Then you can toss it out.
@@SPLThank you. I actually ended up here from your book! :-)
None of my loves pool stores sell these. After seeing your video, I read the pool rx website, and then your replies here and the reviews on Amazon. I am going to purchase. Love your pool videos, always informative and you also have the advantage of being on the left coast. I live in the north east and the equipment and how to’s seem to be very regional (like fast food joints are, you have a much different selection of “restaurants” out west than we do here). I have not heard of pool rx in this area and it seems like it can only be found on line here.
You will like the results from the PoolRx unit. It is strange that no retail stores would carry it in your area but you are right about different products being more popular out West. In-N-Out Burger dominates! 😃👊
What' that song beetween intros
I would have to look it up but I get my music from Freesound.org. It is a site supported by donations and they offer free music.
Can you recommend a liquid clorine ? Any brand ? Leslie’s ? Or any other places ?
Pool Store is your best bet for the freshest chlorine.
I mean the song on 2 minutes and 20 seconds in the video
Does this product work for saltwater pools?
Yes.
Thank you very much. I run a small route in SW FL & own a pool so this will be a future purchase. Have a great day- Infidel
What's the price and how long does this last? Also is it copper? I have stabilizer in some of my chlorine pools, I'd rather not drain them
It uses minerals with some copper sulfate but a chelated agent is used to bond the metals to the PoolRx unit. The only time there will be any staining is if there is Copper in the water already & not from using the poolRx in a pool - believe me as that is the last thing I want on my route so I tested this thoroughly. The minerals will stay in the water for 4-6 months or one entire pool season. Then you would need a new unit or a booster pack to recharge it. Price- Blue unit wholesale is about $45 and the Black one is $65 at SCP. Works with CYA levels well over 200 ppm. The last pool is my newest account and the CYA has to be in the 300 range - too high to even get a good test reading. They were putting 8 tablets in a week. One PoolRx unit and the pool was sparkling a week later.
Swimming Pool Tips, Reviews & How To -MrDgvb1 seems like it's to good to be true but I will buy a few of them from SCP. I don't use liquid chlorine though. Would it be ok to throw a few stabilized tablets and shock in to boost the chlorine up then put one of those in?
I know it sounds like Snake Oil, but I've seen the results on 7 different pools on my route and this stuff really works. One of those seeing is believing type products. I was on the fence with this myself for a couple of years before I decided to start using it. Tabs and shock are fine as long as it is not Cal-Hypo which reacts poorly with the PoolRx.
Can you use pool RX or something like Zodiac nature 2 on pools with borates?
Yes. They are compatible.
Is this similar to the nature 2 cartridge by zodiac?
Very similar but with no need for installation.
Hi David, I've always had algae blooms the last couple of years but I always suspected chlorine level drops. This year, I always had my chlorine high, but there was some algae on the walls after a chlorine shock. Scrubbing the walls turned the crystal water to transparent green, then it became opaque now. The chlorine level is 5 now. And I don't have access to phosphate or nitrate tests. Any recommendations? Your videos are great :)
How long should the chlorine levels last before we need to pour in more chlorine?
Depends on the weather and pools Conditioner level. On really Sunny and hot days like today (102 degrees in my area) it will burn off quickly.
Swimming Pool Tips, Reviews & How To -MrDgvb1 Ok let's assume everything is running up to par. How long should one be putting chlorine if the level is normal?
@@ballerjose26 just test your chlorine levels twice a week for a while. If they are really stable you can back off to once a week testing. Chlorine dosing varies with pool volume, UV exposure, water temperate, debris entry and bather load so no generic answer. You need to test and learn. In general Pool Rx will cut chlorine use in half.
So I guess this RX doesn't harm your pool pump/equipment?
No it won't. Safe to use on any pool set up.
Swimming Pool Tips, Reviews & How To - SPL it slows my pump down, I may have picked one a little too large, am not sure because even with it removed pumped still going slow
Having a hard time on patreon it won't let me donate
It should be pretty easy to sign up - you just need a current Credit Card. Try going here again: www.patreon.com/bePatron?c=570738
can this product be used for a vinyl pool with a salt system?
Yes. Safe for all surface types. You can even lower your salt production % down and extend the salt cell lifespan.
love the videos! i've spent hours watching your stuff. quick question, what would be the best thing to use for a brown flagstone stain on a pebbletec(like) plaster? theres a terrible brown stain directly under the spa spillover (which is flagstone) on the pool floor. i've tried swimming down there with straight muriatic acid in a water bottle with a hole poked in the top to squeeze it directly onto the stain, but it had minimal effect. any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks again for the videos!
I would have to see the stain. email pic to swimmingpoollearning@gmail.com
Swimming Pool Tips, Reviews & How To -MrDgvb1 thanks, I will be going by the house this afternoon
Swimming Pool Tips, Reviews & How To -MrDgvb1 just wanted to let you know ascorbic acid did the trick, thanks again
Thanks for the update! That is god news. 👍
Hi David, can i used the pool rx in conjunction with the mineral frog system?
That would be too much minerals. One or the other is best.
Well, I bought one after I watched your 1st video.( so as any other products that you did a review on ) But after I joined TFP ( online forum ). Every expert from that forum is against this product. Saying chopper is bad for our pool water??!! So I spent over $100 ( with shipping to Canada ). My pool RX is just sitting in my garage. Please advise!!
TFP forum is great. But it is not actually a forum... It should be called TFP Group. A forum is where you can exchange ideas from different sides. They only have one side which is perfectly fine - the BBB Method. I agree with that method 100% but they do not welcome any deviation from that. PoolRx will not stain your pool. Here is an answer directly from the PoolRx site:
Q: Will the copper mineral in the PoolRx stain the pool? A: No. This is an issue with other copper based products, but NOT PoolRx as it has a patented chelating agent. The chelating agent is bonded to the minerals allowing large fluctuations in pH and high chlorine levels (above 10.ppm) and the minerals will not fall out of solution.
Alan Fong I have only used it in pools were I have 5.0 chlorine and there is green algae on the walls and it helps have not used on pools that stay clean
Do you have to vacuum out the algae or do you just need to scrub them off the wall or bottom of the spa/pool and once the chlorine level is back up, it'll die off and vanish? I seem to get some algae build up in my elevated spa while the pool is fairly algae free but then again my elevated spa is near this large bush that towers over the spa and leaves fall into it time to time, so do I need to manually vacuum out the algae from my spa after scrubbing or once the chlorine level is back up the algae will disappear?
Generally unless there is a huge amount of algae after brushing the chlorine will kill it and it will disappear.
I've been battling algae for 2 months. I get the pool cleared of all algae and 2 weeks later it's green again. I'm running the chlorinator nonstop, all levels are good, but the chlorine stays at zero. I've never had this issue before. My pool looks like a swamp. I've done everything our local pool store has told me to. I'm at a loss. Help?
It has been pretty bad in my area also with the record rains and now the record pollen - not to mention everyone decided to fertilize their lawns this Spring. If the filter is clean and the pool is running a good amount of time, yet the chlorine is burning off quickly it could be a combination of Phosphates and Nitrates causing the chlorine to burn off quickly.
Try the PoolRx product - it has produced amazing results on my pool route.
Swimming Pool Tips, Reviews & How To -MrDgvb1 Thank you. I will purchase it, pronto.
Should u have ur cya in range before using Pool Rx?
Not necessary.
Is the PoolRx safe for fiberglass pools?
Yes. This product is highly effective.
If I am going to use it for a 35,760 fiberglass pool, will the black model be sufficient enough? Thank you
After using poolrx by following the directions to the T, my phosphate level went up to 2500ppb. Prior to using I was holding steady at 250-300. Any ideas?
No ideas. Never seen that before.
Ok I definitely need your help. This is the second season we keep getting algae. Our local pool supply store does not supply the liquid chlorine so we have been using the tabs which have stabilizer in them, and so does the shock we use when we get the algae. The cya is pretty high 150, and our chlorine is getting eaten up. Our pool is 8000 gallons. Last summer we used the yellow out and it worked but only short term and we had to keep shocking weekly. I'm afraid to add anymore shock as the cya level is so high. I just ordered the pool rx yesterday and will be getting it shortly. What should I do in the mean time? I'm afraid to add more chlorine as that has stabilizer and don't want to have a reaction with the pool rx. Just used the acid and got my ph where it needs to be. But like I said the algae is eating the chlorine. It's all dust through so easily brushes off, just won't go away with shock. What would you recommend as far as chlorine for long term as well with such high cya? We also have automatic water leveler. Thanks!
PoolRx can work with chlorine levels as high as 10 ppm so your shouldn't have a problem with adding chlorine once you use it. I suggest inserting the PoolRx in the pump basket and running your pool for a good 8-10 hours. Brush the pool walls well and then add some shock to bring the chlorine level up to 3-5 ppm. You will find the chlorine holding steady the next day.
ok but my concern is the cya level. What shock would you recommend since our cya level is at 150? I'm going to try and find some liquid chlorine too in the mean time. Do you suggest turning off the automatic water leveler down so that the evaporation and rain can help the cya level? Also, I'm not sure if we should test for metals.. we have hard water here in AZ, do you think we should still test before using the pool rx?
A rule of thumb: If you have algae there is no copper in the water. You can use regular House Hold non-scented bleach. That has no CYA in it. Keep the water leveler on. Add the PoolRx and switch to bleach. The CYA level will drop after a couple of months - as long as you stop using tablets and shock.
my main concern is the high cya interacting with the pool rx. Can I use cal hypo before putting in the pool rx? And can I continue to use it with the pool rx? I also need to add I have pebble tech finish.
great thanks! youtube wasn't showing my other replies sorry about that! How much bleach should I add for a 8000 gal pool? And that's fine to do with pebble?
Hi Dave, is it okay to have chlorine tablets in the floater when using the PoolRx product?? And by chlorine tablets... what tablets would you recommend with the PoolRx ?
Yes, perfectly fine. Leslie's Tablets, Pool Season Tabs are good ones.
hey do you have any idea why some parts of the pool turn purple a couple of weeks after the pool rx is installed?. thanks in advance.
If PoolRx is added to a pool with really high CYA - over 150 ppm, high pH, and very high Alkalinity and there is more than 0.5 Copper in the water, the "Purple Dust" can appear. To cure this reduce the CYA by doing a partial drain and use a Metal Sequestering Agent and a Culator to extract the Copper from the water. It is one of the few cautions with the product - don't add PoolRx to a pool with Copper in the water. This article explains the Purple (Copper) Cyanurate very well: parpools.typepad.com/ronblog/2012/06/purple-copper-cyanurate.html
@@SPLGreat tip, thanks
How long do you leave the Pool RX in the filter after algae has cleared?
You leave it in all season long until the minerals wear out - usually 4-6 months. The side benefit is that since PoolRx stops all the things that feed algae in your pool - Phosphates for example, the Free Chlorine levels will remain high as the Chlorine works less which means you will use less chlorine all season long. It is a win-win product in my opinion .
Hi. Does this help with black algae as well? I notice black spots around my pool recently. Should i treat it before adding pool rx?
why my PH is ok but Total Alkalinity is high about 200, why is that and whats the fix????
Suggest going to the pool store and buying a case of Muriatic Acid - 4 gallons. Depending on your pool size say it is 15,000 gallons - add 1/2 gallon to the pool. Check the pH the next day. If ALK is 200 the pH should bounce right back up so you can add more acid again. Do this for a week until the ALK is around 120 ppm. If the pH drops to 6.8 wait a day or two before adding more acid.
what issues i could have if i keep it the way it is?
also why this situation accrues ?
Could just be the pool's fill water. If it is well water it is usually very Alkaline. Nothing you are doing wrong in some cases.
can this situation cause issues if not addressed ?
