Pro tip, yo: use self-tapping screws that also have a top slot in them for flat-blade screw driver. The slot provides additional gripping edges for dealing with ice and hard-pack snow.
I have the same screws on straps that I put on my boots, but it makes my boots really heavy. BTW, Im in Alberta where we get a heck load of snow and ice. So for 6 months of the year, Im wearing my boots. Some screws wore down on my straps and was going to get replacement studs, but now Ive seen your video this might be a good thing to try. Thanks for doing this. OH BTW if anyone is wondering, these studs slip like crazy on tiles, so make sure your holding onto something. :D
When (1998 I think) I had the privilege ,along with 3 of my friends, of being a safety flagman (turn#1) for a motorcycle ice race at the Cow Palace in South San Francisco, each of us installed just one self tapping 1/4 hex screw into each heel of our sneakers to provide traction while on the rink....with only one of us providing the small crowd some comical entertainment when they ended up on their backside somewhere near the end of the several 4 man heats used to widdle down the racers to the (6 bike) finalists for the event.. ....I would say that works rather well(75% sucessfull) considering my Air Jordans weren't designed for ice rink walking .... .... afterwards... unscrewed them and returned them so some other 4 guys in some other arena could screw into each heel of their shoes for flag duty....
That's a good idea I never thought of doing something like that maybe using guerrilla glow over time they would fall out of my boots because of the fact of the rubber around them being loosened up definitely gonna try that idea out thanks for the comment pal have a great day 👍
Do they work their way out though? - I'm kinda worried that they might come out on a road and find their way into someone's auto tyre. Great video though nice idea.
I really appreciate the comment thank you very very much I've used them all winter long and towards the end they did one or two did fall out but it worked out really really well as far as giving me traction on ice if you use the screws that are not self tappers they'll stay a lot better is what I found again thank you so much for the comment I really appreciate it if you have any ideas for future videos make sure you hit me up and have a great day
I bet if you screw them in and then unscrew them then fill the whole with some kind of food glue for rubber or decals and then screw them back in they will possibly never come out !
I don't think so I have hardwood floors and I had to walk through the living Room it did not help me from slipping an did nothing for the hardwood floor face hahaha🤣
+Dee Dee you could as long as you stayed and a small area and walked without slipping around but personally I don't recommend it I say make sure you take them off before you get to a hardwood floor for just the risk of scraping or scarring your floor hopefully that will help you thank you so much for your comment
+Patryk Slomczynski they're still on the boots today the only thing that I've noticed is that if I exert a lot of pressure on them by pushing on heavy objects in exerting a lot of pressure to the studs I've lost one or two out of them but overall they're still in the boots and working perfect
Mom will have a nice cast iron skillet ready for the side of my head for her scratched up hard wood floor .

My shoes now keeping filling with blood!
Your screws are to long...or not enough "meat" on your shoes...
Roc 117 it was a joke, you boomer
You need thicker skin!
Just drill several small drain holes on the sides of your shoes.

New drinking game... Every time this guy says “end up”, take a shot.
Yes, that works, I have also done it with round pinhead pozi drive screws flanged. They work well too.
Thank you to Mr. Shank for the idea this sure saved me so I'm going to do this for my wife. Thank you.

Someday the screws are gonna wreck your feet
Hey you should try to put some glue on the screws before u screw them in!
That's a good idea I never thought of doing something like that maybe using guerrilla glow over time they would fall out of my boots because of the fact of the rubber around them being loosened up definitely gonna try that idea out thanks for the comment pal have a great day 👍
Great idea Bro, I'm going out RIGHT NOW to buy some hex head self tapping screws, thanks much!!
Ya its one of the bigest reason i got in to snowsleding 😊
@@mrshank3353 Sorry but I don't know what you are trying to say but maybe I missed something, I'm not sure.
Thank you lots!
Great video boss
Thank u buddy
A brilliant idea
i wish i could buy you a beer this is a badass idea.

A man's man 😂👍
I wish i saw this video when i lived in the mountains.

I'm sure gonna try this! thanks again.
if they get in someone's Tire then they will have a stud tire for traction . I will install them on my tires for this winter. You should try it too.
Does this work for dirt and grass?
This sounds great...but what are the dimensions of the hex screw..? Length excluding hex head..? Width...?
I bet if you screw them in and then unscrew them then fill the whole with some kind of food glue for rubber or decals and then screw them back in they will possibly never come out !
That's actually a really good idea I'll have to get some Elmer's glue And try it out
"Ended up" being an awesome video!!!
Thank u iam gald u like
Heck yes 😳thank you God bless😀
Thank you sir!!!👍👍😊!!
Ingenious
Thank u i got to get my boots setup getting a lot of raine and ice here
Very smart!
U sound like R V D and good video
I am going to do this to my tires.
Do they work for rappers
No chance of them giving traction to your bare feet I hope🤔 nice video
What size of screws are you using?
This dude is a construction worker with no impact gun or drill
LukeSterrr128 he literally says that it’s best NOT to use a drill
great video. do you have a similar idea for leather dress shoes?
Hey pal thank u for the comment ill see what i can come with 👍
You could try crampons, or those rubber crampons you can usually find at the pharmacy or local hardware store for shoes.
Does it work with my lebrons?
Of course, extra grip on the court. You should make a vid about it
A fire would work better.
Would this work for working on roof?
No it works great for ice and snow and mud. It may tear up your shingles so i would have to say no
@@mrshank3353 I put some smaller flat head screws and it worked flawless..since flatter it didnt tear up the shingles :)
Don't they get packed with snow then become useless? My opinion is it's a good idea for just ice but snow is another issue...
Will this give me traction on a shingled roof?
I don't think so I have hardwood floors and I had to walk through the living Room it did not help me from slipping an did nothing for the hardwood floor face hahaha🤣
I tried it ,now my foot is bleeding...🙄
Can you still walk on hard floor with it?

Thank you Batman on winter 2020

awesome thanks for the reply! im going to try this
Had these on my wading fishing boots, took them all off. You will fall and kill your self if you are hiking on rocks. Very bad idea !!!!
Once the ridge wears off they are useless.
For sure i had to replace 2 or 3 at the end of the season
sort of like crampons, just not as spiky
Your feet are saposed to slip a little it's good for your legs
Slipping is normal walk carefully your a grown man grow up
Lol try working outside in the middle of winter in -30 degrees fahrenheit with worn down (no tread) Corcoran boots from the 50s. Absolute hell.
@@bobbrown3469 Jesus lol
Lol
THE SCREWS COULD MAKE "HARD" SPOTS UNDER FOOT. But, it's worth a try.
Closer to the edge might be better.
No doubt.
