This is awesome, I was friends and went to Corona high school with Steve Van Dorens daughter in the mid nineties. They would have sales at the ducks arena parking lot where we got Van's for 10 to 15 bucks.
This makes me cry,, i love sk8ing and vans. Omg sk8boarding saved my life... i know u know what i meen . Old school, new school. Park or street. Thank you god for this simple pleasure .
I live in Australia and started getting Vans in the 80's. Back then pretty much the only way to get Vans here was via mail order through ads in Thrasher by places like California Skate Express. The current day Anaheim Factory Collection are pretty nice, but nothing can compare to the old "Made In USA" Vans. They felt different, they smelled different, they looked different. They were handmade, and as the ads said, "no two shoes are exactly alike". The slight imperfections were what made them special, but the materials they used back then were better than now. I really miss the USA made Vans, but the Anaheim Collection they're doing now are pretty good aesthetically and a nice substitute.. I'm 51 now and they're still my shoe of choice.
Here's a good story for you kids: I got my first pair of Vans in 1967, when I was 11 years old (they were called Deck Shoes back then). When we got to the Vans store, I had no problem picking out the style I liked... There were 5-hole lace-ups in Navy Blue, or White and slip-ons in Navy Blue, or White. The important feature was the 5-holes, other shoes only had 4-holes. I can't wear Vans anymore... not enough support for my feet!
Vans are so comfortable and they always have some awesome new print that always gets me hooked on a new pair. Star wars you say? Yeah I'll take two pair. 31 and still wearing them. Probably going to to wear them for life. I got a picture will the owner when I was a kid. Guy is so chill.
I've never in my life has a successful time riding a board. my balance is really bad, but my dad use to skate back in 1968-72 and he always wore authentic vans. and he always bought me Era styled vans, yet I never skated well in my life, it's just a comfortable shoe to me, my old faithful kind of shoe
mrabelonee Or watch the video about how down the Chinese folks are that fabricate them overseas. Good people working hard to make a living. Just like US!!!
i honestly don’t think i will buy another pair of shoes other than vans. i don’t personally skate but i just love the idea of them, and someday I want to try skateboarding. I’ve worn vans for years and i buy the exact same pair and color every time.
Vans are great for more than just skateboarding, they grip my mountain bikes pedals really well and I can only whip if I have vans on because I know that they won't slip like my other shoes.
Watched this and the rest tons of times on theberrics.com love it :)) I don't slate anything but vans :)) I currently have the halfcab :) I had the chukka lows before that and authentics and eras before that :)) thanks to the berrics for helping us understand one of the biggest shoe companies in the skate business :))
I’ve always been a skater, and I’m 14 now and at my school, hair must’ve been above the eyebrows. It could be a little longer and my point is, watching skaters and looking at the magazines I’ve always wanted that long hair. So in summer I would grow it out long. I’ve always wanted to look like a skater or surfer
+friendofCHAKA Try their pro line of shoes they have a memory foam insole in them. I totally agree with you but I bought a pair of TNTs and they were super comfy
The vans I bought lasted ONE WEEK, a whole SEVEN DAYS, and the entire front rubber was worn through and the sole was completely separated from my foot part.
i'm not a skater coz i don't know how to skate..but i love watching skateboarding shows and love wearing vans shoes specially the chukka low & rowley pro... am i considered a poser??
$4.49 in 1966 is $35.47 today. $8 in 1974 is $43.50 today. Vans today are $50, $65 depending on the style. I know so many people who say shoes used to be so cheap, and now they're crazy expensive. But that's not true at all. Vans is a famous brand today, so of course the price is higher, but not by all that much. Imagine if the shoes that we $4.49 became $5.76 because they were name brand.
I wore Vans then Airwalks and in 1986 it all changed. I could go to the local athletic store and buy last years outdated Air Jordans for $25.99 plus tax and the shoe came with good cushion. The Whackers felt bulky compared to Vans or Airwalks at first, but we all got used to it. The change I talk about is documented in the Chin Video so anyone who thinks I am wrong can go watch the Chin Video.
Jamie Deakin Gotta get the ones with UltraCush and thicker sidewalls, otherwise you're getting the Vans that every non-skater gets. They have two levels to the Off the Walls, chill shoes with thin padding and Pro's with extra thick inner sole and overall tougher construction.
Just make the bottom more durable but everything else is really good I love the skate slip on’s and the ultra Cush saves my feet when I do stairs or I jump down things
My first pair of vans I got in early 90's, and they were mostly black(suede) and had a rubber toe cap, with white/gum cupsole. The reason I'm typing all of this is in hopes that someone will know the sneaker I'm talking about and can tell me the name of the model as well as what year it came out. I've been trying to figure this out for about 10 years with no luck. any help would be appreciated.
I hate it how vans started so amazing, how it was the first skate shoe. Now all the rich kids at school wear them not knowing the history and culture that went into the shoe and now the shoes aren't designed for skating as much because they aren't used for skating as much
Dipper Pinesmabel at my school rich kids wear Jordons and ect not vans , I like vans cuz they cheap and I'm into skating but I'm not that good but I been practing everyday
Jay Adams, Tony Alva and Shogo Kubo all skated Nike in addition to Vans. Christian is well aware of that. Christian was synonymous with Chuck Taylor's in the eighties and sponsored by Converse. Billy Ruff sent a portfolio and then a letter to Nike explaining that he had always preferred Nike's to Vans and pleaded with them to send him shoes at least every other month. I've skated nothing Vans for the last 14 years and it's not because I think it's the best shoe for skateboarding or the best quality.
I have been a strong Vans enthusiast for the entirety of my skateboarding "career", but I have to say that recently I have been extremely disappointed in the quality of the shoes I have gotten. I order my Vans from Tactics and the last 3 pairs of Old School Pro or Era Pros I have purchased have torn on the upper canvas near the big toe. The worst part is that this was during the Minnesota winter so the shoes were skated in maybe a handful of times. At this point I've chosen to write it off as a fluke but if the pair of Era pros in my closet do the same thing and I don't get a response from Vans I will be sad to say I will be buying my first pair of non-Vans skate shoes.
Ricky Spanish its actually not i have prods to skate tho and they haven't even tore yet i live vans to go out but nikes just last longer if i skated vans they will rip in a day and my favorite pro skater is evan smith and he doesn't even ride for nike he rides for dc head ass
gil ortiz Evan Smith is the goat yo, but i completely agree. Vans do rip pretty easily but i guess that kinda ties in with what i love about them. The thinness, the complete board feel with soles that can still handle a drop. I just hate Nike for it's sellout moves, and it's way of slapping their name of everything including skating. Tennis, nike. Basketball, nike. Basically anything they're capable of getting. Vans though, vans is die hard skste passion.
Ricky Spanish i mean vans are awesome i love the style of the shoe if i was rich or sponsored then i would always wear them but i need a shoe that will last me at least a month but longer thanks to shoe goo
gil ortiz I got a pair just yesterday, popped three ollies and BOOM ripped. I would definitely have no problem skating for them, always looking stylish while ripping for the team
Geoff Rowley: "They were still good. There were holes in the side." Spoken like a true skater.
Back in 1977 I'd wear vans while riding my BMX Supergoose with Oakley F1 grips, KKT pedals and life was simple. Bless vans for being there.
Vans RULE! Been wearing them since 1978. My closet is still full of them!
My favorite shoe. It’s so awesome hearing and reading the background of how the shoe was established. #vansaresodope
This is awesome, I was friends and went to Corona high school with Steve Van Dorens daughter in the mid nineties. They would have sales at the ducks arena parking lot where we got Van's for 10 to 15 bucks.
3:58 - Eagle Rock store! I have fond memories of going there when i was a kid and picking out a pair.
This makes me cry,, i love sk8ing and vans. Omg sk8boarding saved my life... i know u know what i meen . Old school, new school. Park or street. Thank you god for this simple pleasure .

Melissa Ohlsson comfy Cush, they make special vans for people with sensitive feet.
When you have flat feet but love vans even though it hurts your feet
I have flat feet
Vans are so comfortable and they always have some awesome new print that always gets me hooked on a new pair. Star wars you say? Yeah I'll take two pair. 31 and still wearing them. Probably going to to wear them for life. I got a picture will the owner when I was a kid. Guy is so chill.
I wish you could still buy just one shoe at a time.
Michael Whittiker whn the hell was tht, never heard of tht before
You still can at the vans store
You don't skate switch?
I've never in my life has a successful time riding a board. my balance is really bad, but my dad use to skate back in 1968-72 and he always wore authentic vans. and he always bought me Era styled vans, yet I never skated well in my life, it's just a comfortable shoe to me, my old faithful kind of shoe
Sk8-Hi for ever
Syl hold skool 4ever
Syl YESSSS
Got 5 pairs of vans love them!! They should make a true story movie about it!! How it all started!!
"Yeah we love Skateboarding"
Still have my Tony Alva Vans from about 10 years ago.
They are in great shape, and I rarely wear them.
I wish Vans would produce them again.
I wish they were still made in California.
They have a special collection named 'made in Anaheim'
mrabelonee Or watch the video about how down the Chinese folks are that fabricate them overseas. Good people working hard to make a living. Just like US!!!
@@MisterElement yeah no doubt but they're subjugated to terrible work conditions and pay
@@MisterElementquality has suffered
Use to get them from G&S Oceanside......custom ...had to fill out paper and wait a month....RIP SHELL BOWL & GEMCO BOWL!
I wish everyone saw the pain and work that we put into skating -.- it's basically our art just in a more exciting and more dangerous aha
i honestly don’t think i will buy another pair of shoes other than vans. i don’t personally skate but i just love the idea of them, and someday I want to try skateboarding. I’ve worn vans for years and i buy the exact same pair and color every time.
Vans! Forever The Sickest Shoes. 🤘
Vans are great for more than just skateboarding, they grip my mountain bikes pedals really well and I can only whip if I have vans on because I know that they won't slip like my other shoes.
stephen deben yea the sk8 hi is more acknowledged as a bmx shoe
Thank you!!!
For those of you who say vans don't have much support try the chukka lows with ultracush
4:55 what’s up with his ankle?
My favorite skate shoe
Watched this and the rest tons of times on theberrics.com love it :)) I don't slate anything but vans :)) I currently have the halfcab :) I had the chukka lows before that and authentics and eras before that :)) thanks to the berrics for helping us understand one of the biggest shoe companies in the skate business :))
I want to be able to Ollie on to a car like that dude

He had to take all the endorsements after getting out of PRISON 🤙
@@gkhanjriii91-04 he was on Converse well before he went to prison.
So glad they made vans wide feet
I fucking love skating vans
Vans is just the best skate shoe on earth
I LOVE VANS !!!!!💯💯💯💎💎💎🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Vans are great but they need arch support.
+friendofCHAKA Try their pro line of shoes they have a memory foam insole in them. I totally agree with you but I bought a pair of TNTs and they were super comfy
Heathcliff same here cause i have a super flat foot but all skate shoes are flay

Just to think vans authentics were 4 bucks now there from 50-70 dollars
Sick dude
is it too late for me to skateboard and be good at it I'm 16 years old when I was little I was more of a bmx kid
+GG GG Never too late to skate. Mike Vallely was like 14 or 15 when he first started
+GG GG Practice and hard work makes up for time. It's as serious as you treat it.
I'm 20 I will start skating this summer after exams
crapsack47 thanks bro or sis I don't want to be pro but want to be good as a pro
Bastien Fratta good for you it's not too late some old people could skateboard to
The vibes..they must be missed.
The vans I bought lasted ONE WEEK, a whole SEVEN DAYS, and the entire front rubber was worn through and the sole was completely separated from my foot part.
I practiced with them quite a bit during that week, doing nothing but kickflips, but still
i'm not a skater coz i don't know how to skate..but i love watching skateboarding shows and love wearing vans shoes specially the chukka low & rowley pro... am i considered a poser??

Does no one else think vans have no support? I skated one pair and went straight back to emerica. Fuck getting heel bruises
Both pairs Ive had were rowleys, didn't realise there was two versions
I'm skating emerica Reynolds threes right now loving the cup sole goodbye heel bruises. Never skating vans again.
Jamie Deakin i just bought a pair of emerica and the sole fell off, twice yts happend, so im going back to vans
Jamie Deakin first time I rode tore a hole in the side and kept getting holes in my socks
love my half cabs
The Authentic Pros are currently the best shoe in skateboarding.
2019?
Just make the bottom more durable but everything else is really good I love the skate slip on’s and the ultra Cush saves my feet when I do stairs or I jump down things
Vans revolucionária no mundo do skate
The Gilberts are the best in my opinion

It's a good and classic shoe but the quality sucks. You can't do many tricks well after a skate day the shoe is destroyed. #keepitbarefoot
Casey neistat vibes bruh
Vans suck to skate in because they rip quick that's just my opinion
