I suggest you keep the 4060 - it's still futureproof for when you get a new mobo and processor in a few years. Works great on AM5 boards, too. Loved the video!

damn, another got suckered by the Nvidia card :( the 4060 isn't really a 4060, it's a 4050. you can tell because of how small the PCB is and how efficient the card is, it's more like a laptop GPU than a desktop GPU. which is fine if you're staying at 1080p and have a weaker PSU, but it's really not a futureproofed card. ESPECIALLY for gaming and video editing, VRAM is king and the 4060 only comes with 8GB - not enough for some modern games at High or Ultra 1080p, you'll need to drop settings so you won't crash. the thing that really hurts it is the 128 bit bus interface - meaning it only uses x8 lanes of PCI-E, not x16, so half the bandwidth. and it's designed for 4.0 speeds, and you're running it in a B450 that only has access to 3.0 speeds. i did the exact same thing on my build, i went for an RX 6650 XT, an 8GB with an x8 128 bit bus interface - it really hurt me for gaming and productivity at higher resolutions and settings.
if you want something truly futureproofed that won't leave performance on the table, there are a few options. you need 16GB of VRAM, and you need x16 with a 256 bit bus (you can get away with 3.0 speeds on an x16 card, more lanes makes up for the max speed nicely). that'll futureproof you for the next 3 years minimum, ideally 4 to 6 years. if it's still in stock, the RX 6800 non-XT is an amazing buy, but that's almost completely gone now. the ARC A770 from Intel is shockingly good, it's 16GB for $300 or so and it's got Intel Quicksync, so it's amazing for video editing - the catch is gaming, the Intel driver team is still playing catchup and there might be some edge cases where games don't work. avoid the RX 7600 XT and RTX 4060 Ti 16GB, they have the VRAM but on a 128 bit bus, so it's really slow VRAM. if you can't get an RX 6800 or an ARC A770, your next best choice is the RX 7800 XT, but that's close to $500. forget it for Nvidia - to get a card that won't kneecap your system, you need to spend at least $800 on a 4070 Ti Super, that's the cheapest card they have with 16GB of VRAM and a 256 bit bus.
... prices really suck right now, i'm sorry you had to upgrade in this economy with these prices mate. hope you can get a decent GPU that doesn't suck :)

thanks so much for hanging with my video. I realizing that my learning curve is very much improved by these comments and hope my experiences on making Linux videos sparks interest especially among old farts like me so they won't be afraid to take it for a spin. JHL

I'm sorry for how it ran, but I don't think the PCie 3 is the problem here, maybe the gpu is faulty? i have a 4060 with a pcie 3 mb and it's working flawlessly? its certainly not ideal but the "bottleneck" of the pcie 3 shouldn't even matter in 99% of the cases even with the number of lanes and bandwidth of the 4060, maybe the cpu is the bottleneck here? maybe something with your drivers because you mentioned messed up aspect ratioes? it shouldn't overheat just because you put it in the pcie 3 also so that's weird, try checking the gpu itself

I'm putting it in another computer with a b550 board and i feel good about it working to its full potential then
