1st gen nano had a color screen at least. iPod Mini with black and white screen is the premiere way to play Doom. Rockbox is the best software you can install on your old ipods.
This is how I actually beat the first episode of Doom for the first time in my life. Playing it in other things though afterwards… was like stepping out from the artic and going to the beach for a nice relaxing day.
I legitimately grew up playing doom on my toshiba gigabeat with rockbox. My mom wouldn't let me have any video games in my room, so rockbox was a savior.
More nostalgia lol. I useto use rockbox religiously at one point on my iPod video 5.5g 30gb. Played lots of doom and other things. Sadly it died a little while ago, most likely bad battery or storage. Same goes for my nano video. Both hold a special place in my heart... rip Mah BOis!!!
Doom on the mini was a challenge that I did with my IT professor, I gave me and him an iPod mini and a copy of Doom and the first person to beat the first chapter got extra credit, guess who won?
Thank you for the video i did this back in the day and no one believed me I wanna buy another old ipod and do this. I did this on the black and white ipod nano
I have an iRiver H10 20GB MP3 Player (That has the BEST CUSTOM Equalizer and SOUND BLASTER AKA Volume Blaster to turn 40 decibels to 80 decibels in less than a second!) I had 2 iRiver H10's, and ran RockBox on both of them. I had my custom screen, font, scroll speed, YOU NAME IT! I also had Rock Doom and LOVED IT!! :) I have beat Rock Doom a couple times but I had to switch back to the regular iRiver Firmware because my battery was starting to die too fast. Sure enough it fixed it for a while but now, my battery on the H10 20GB only lasts for about 2 hours unfortunately and sadly. But I will ALWAYS have that MP3 Player AND RockBox in my heart as the best MP3 Player ever. Don't get me wrong. iPods will Always be my favorite music player because of the simplicity, storage, and almost EVERYBODY HAD ONE! :) But my iRiver H10 20GB MP3 Player is my first MP3 Player that I had that had a screen on it with voice recording, pictures, FM Tuner, as well as FM Radio recording. Funny thing too, when you do a voice recording on it, you can hear the hard drive spinning and clicking on your recordings. I don't think it did that for the FM Tuner recordings but it was still awesome! Boy do I miss that MP3 Player lol! :)
This is such a huge nostalgia trip for me. I hd rock box on my iPod Video in high school. Now my search history is just me looking for an old 5th gen in my area.
Man that's what i would like to do on my mini if my mini didn't last 1 hour on cold and the storage was bigger but im poor so i can't complain too much.
is ipod linux on a 6th gen classic possible? maybe even multi-booting linux, MojoXP, RockBox, and iOS? and how do we get the classic click wheel games working?
It's a universal rule. Does it have a screen and a way to interact? It can and WILL PLAY DOOM!
Rule 34-D
Like on the MacBook Pro touchbar

Not anymore bucko’ !
The frame rate on the iPod mini is so low it doesn’t use frames per second it uses seconds per frame
Not really it was running at stable 20-40fps
Oops yeah, the mini was horrible
the problem is the refresh rate if you use an iPod first gen
Edit: I think its refresh rate.
you mean like how rolls royce cars have gallons per mile?

I got it running on a SanDisk Sansa clip+ little half inch monochrome oled... Literally impossible

Btw, you can reduce the resolution for better framerate and “gameplay”z
Skyrim Ipod port when
Robin Koenig if he did we all need it
TODD YOUVE DONE IT AGAIN!!!
Could do an elder scrolls game from the same era as original doom. Wont be skyrim but would be an ES game
You can play elder scrolls blades on the new iPod.
The fact that he's using an old version of freedoom on this makes this video so much better

"It controls like a cat fighting a vacuum cleaner"
Still better than my hand eye coordination lol
1:54 very accurate description of the typical Mac user
This is the first way that I played doom and I fell in love with it on that platform. Still love it to this day.
This is a great channel. Love the jocose and amusing manner -informative and entertaining. Keep 'em coming. Glad to have subbed.

The problem in Rockbox is, imagine Kirby using his super power to swallow an enemy, that's the graphic recreation of your battery charge
