@TheAtoll I'm late to the chat, but I have a question. what is your intro's song? I would honestly love to listen to the whole song, it's smooth and relaxing. I keep replaying your intros just to listen to it. Thank you ahead for replying if you do
After learning all this behind-the-scenes drama, it's a minor miracle that Waterworld turned out as well as it did, and that we're still talking about it almost thirty years later!
Crazy amount of behind-the-scenes stories from Waterworld. I heard a brief story of the 2 Kevins but nothing this detailed, it's almost documentary material. But well, glad to see another chapter from "The Atoll", the Waterworld lore never ceases to amaze.
I came across these videos during a difficult time in my life and they made me feel comfortable. So it’s nice to watch the new ones in my improved state.

Awesome video! A video about Postman would also be great. I remember that I enjoyed it quit a bit, but its probably over 10 years ago, that I watched it
This channel is my go to example of one of my favorite types of YT channel - Person on the spectrum tell us about their special interest. I enjoyed Waterworld, but what I enjoy even more is how this one guy managed to make 56 entertaining and informative videos about a single movie from the 90's.
Remember when Enola asked the Mariner how many people he killed? He said, "Including little girls?" I realized something about him, especially after reading the book: he wasn't messing around. I get Mariner might have been saying that to intimidate Enola. But even if he was lying, it ended up being true by story's end. We know Smoker kids were onboard the _Deez._ We saw the Mariner set the tanker on fire with his flare. We saw it sink. This isn't a knock against _Waterworld._ It's just a detail that always seemed to be out of sight, out of mind this whole time. The Mariner is definitely not someone to be messed with.
@@TheAtoll There's something else I just noticed about the movie. I re-watched _Child's Play_ recently. In it, Neil Giuntoli plays Eddie Caputo, ex-partner to the villain Charles Lee Ray. Later in the film, Charles, or Chucky, gets revenge on Eddie by turning the gas on in his house. Eddie unloads his revolver and blows himself up. In _Waterworld,_ Neil Giuntoli is the Hellfire Gunboat operator. Remember what they called him? "What's that cousin's name?!" "Chuck! Hey, Chuck!" "Maybe he doesn't answer to Chuck! Call him Charles! CHARLES!!" It's a _Child's Play_ reference! 🤣 I know they gave Neil this name on purpose, because his character was not called Chuck or even referred to by any name in the book. Chucky makes him blow his house up in _Child's Play_ and Chuck's anti-aircraft machine blows up the refueler barge in _Waterworld._ Clever stuff. And while the first _Child's Play_ was distributed by MGM/United Artists, the rights to it were sold to Universal in 1990. It's fun noticing things like this woven into movies.
You actually got me to borrow waterworld from the library and give it another shot. Now that I actually understand a lot of things better it was more enjoyable. Still not my favorite movie but I can appreciate it a lot more now.
@@TheAtoll starting my own collection of aliens. Never was into the series until now, maybe because I wasn’t born during its hype, but they look like they can stand the test o f time and wonder if these water worlds would also be a must.

Hey Don! Yeah, I really like The Postman and have a lot of thoughts about it, and the book it's based on. It could certainly be new series for the channel.
I'm puzzled by the rejection of the original musical score - If it's more "ethnic and bleak" (as Wikipedia describes it) that sounds like it might fit better with the primitive and timeworn look of the sets and costumes. The rousing action hero theme always seemed out of place to me. As always, a very informative and fun video. I love the balanced telling of the tale. It is heartening to learn that two friends can continue to come together professionally even after multiple fallings out. Perhaps honesty about their expectations and past disappointments was key.
Yeah, Mark Isham's score has never been heard by the public. I really wish it was leaked and compared to James Newton Howards score. I consider the Isham score one of Waterworld's great "lost medias". Who knows, it probably exists on some tape or hard drive at Universal Studios. Maybe it will surface someday!
