About:
Jason and Lorraine. In 2016 we sold most of our belongings and left the city in southern California to start a small homestead in the mountains of North Carolina. We left the city in search for a more minimal and intentional life. We became passionate about growing our own food and knowing what exactly is in our food after I (Jason) became diagnosed with cancer. Now 8 years in remission we as a family are on a journey to live our passions.
We document our life on UA-cam videos to inspire others to get out of their comfort zone and not be afraid of change. We started our own online general store where we have available the things we make and use in real life. Thank you for following us on this incredible life changing journey!

Tonight it's Soap the Land.
Sewp?
Next gift Jason could be a long handled wooden spoon for stirring the laundry soap.
Thanks, I haven’t seen this recipe before! Love the skirt! Also, looking forward to those embroidery videos 😊
Ive been making this recipe for a while now. I saw it on Tiny notes from home and I absolutely love it! ❤
nice!
We use the dry recipe at our house. We also use vinegar as instead of fabric softener. Works great!
we do too
Lorraine you are such a natural. A pleasure to watch and learn.
Thanks for being a great help to me, I love you and your family. Lorraine you and your family are so wonderful! But you are the heart ❤️. Jason the great inventor and craftsman 🌟. With your beautiful daughter the important glue that holds it all together 🍯. Thanks to all of you for making great content!
Thank you for the soap recipe, it has worked for us a long time. And thank Penelope for reminding us of the parable of the lost coin. It is so important to remember the reasons for Gods for us.
Hi..... Lorraine , thank you for sharing your video homestead chicken farmer garden 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 🐔🐓🐥🌱🎥👍👍👍
lorraine, love the red skirt you made!!!
I love this recipe the first time I saw homemade laundry soap was on 19 kids and counting lol long long time ago I have been making it ever since in different forms and actually that’s what spurred me on to start becoming a Soap maker !
I’ve made this soap before and I love it. Also like the skirt
We used to do that & i really liked using a 5 gallon homemade “washer” for the really dirty things. Its just a hole in the top & several holes in the rubber of a plunger - and swish swish - we were off. It was the best for my husbands t-shirts & our socks and things!
Great video Lorraine. I've been making my own for about 10 years also, saves so much money and cleans better. I make the dry recipe though and use 1 Tbls per load. It last us about 6 to 8 months, so great.
Great tip, thanks! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Thank you✌❤
Love your video! We just did a video on making soap bars from lard and have been wondering about laundry soap. Thank you for sharing.
I LOVE the spigot idea! Beats scooping with a ladle or measuring cup, the laundry soap into an old commercial laundry soap bottle any day! Thanks for the tip!👍👍
Oh Lorraine I am going to try that even though it is only my husband & I it would be a great money saver.
Happy New Year to you guys. Cheers Denise - Australia
Denise Brady yesss it’s just my husband and I as well
Love this! Thanks for sharing! How much essential oil would you add to 5 gallons?
I also make my own laundry soap xx
That is extremely helpful thanks a lot. 👍 from Cyndy ...... Manitoba Canada. Love you guys keep up the good work🙏
Pretty easy 👌
Great video, (as always.) See Lorraine wearing the skirt she was sewing in the last video. Looks so nice and cute with the Homesteading t shirt. 😀 Good job! 🌿
I had to stop using homemade laundry soap because it was messing up my clothes. I live in a hard water area, and if you've seen soap scum on your shower, then you know what was on my clothes. They started not smelling right after drying because stuff was trapped in the fibers and getting an off color too. I also had to clean my machine of the buildup too. So hard water people beware!
Love it ! Lorraine , maybe Jason can make you a super long wooden spoon for stirring 😊
Good, clear instructions. Thank you.
Never thought of using Dr Bronner's! Great idea! Thank you for sharing. Shalom and Blessings from NE Missouri!
I have always wanted to make some, so I guess I better get started. Thanks. Have a Wonderful & Blessed Day!
Thank You going to make for sure. Better and cheaper than Store bought brands. God Bless and Peace Be With You All ☮️🙏❣️
that easy huh? and ive been buying mine tsk tsk
I also hadsome liquid peppermint castile soap, peppermint EO, and I use Mrs Meyers Peppermint castile bar soap. I find her soap makes a thicker gel than Dr Bronners
Do you have a video on your rain barrel?
here ya go.ua-cam.com/video/gnGDdruoOQY/v-deo.html
Your description of how to tell when the powders were dissolved made me giggle. Keep it up.
Thankyou Lorrane. What a great recipe and I imagine would be a great money saver. Thankyou.
I never try this, but I'll give it a try. Thank you for sharing.🌴🌴🐊🐢🌴👍👍🇺🇸🙏
Made this before, works great. Love the bucket hack will have to give it a go again.
Have Jason make a long handled wooden paddle with crossed blades to stir that stuff.
Have a Happy New Year Lorraine may you and your family have prosperous New Year.
Well that was nice and simple...
Have a great day ⛄⛄⛄
Love it! Can't wait to make my own! I'm thinking lavender laundry soap. Enjoy your day! Hello to the ducks!
I've made it with zote, but imma make it with bronner's next. I make it.super concentrated to save space, then just store in half gallon Mason jars.
Wow that easy, why have I been buying laundry soap all these years? Buying all the stuff tomorrow thanks Lorraine!!
Lorraine Jason needs to make you a wooden paddle to stir your soap!!! I LOVE the skirt you made....
Thank you great video!
thanks
Love this! Would love more like this with price points. Thanks for all you do ❤
what do you mean by price points? What else would you like to see? thanks!
@@SowtheLand Hello! Price points meaning...costs per project. Like...laundry soap...$6...per 6 months for laundry soap. Like costs per chicken per month in feed. Things that you budget for ..etc...Love to see more cooking segments ...with cost per meal. Sharing tips on perseverance, building and struggles. I'm a newer subscriber since this spring 2019. I appreciate you guys. I'm homesteading a small farm and I'm inspired to share my journey on my own channel in late Spring 2020. You guys inspire me!
Shannon Kerwin I think prices would be different in different parts of the country. It’s easy enough to figure out the costs for your area, since you have the list of ingredients to buy. And it’s easy enough to figure out how many half cups are in this recipe, then just divide.
@@stepht5 Thanks! I'm actually setting up a homestead...so any positive input in that direction is accepted and tested! Thank you!
Thank you for sharing this recipes.
Really fun and easy and useful. Thank u
Thank you so much sweet lady ♥️
Great video and recipe...Thank you much....This is what I've heard----Liquid detergent doesn't hurt your machine like dry detergent does, and I'm almost 56 and grandmothers were frugal ladies stretching that ole mighty dollar....So listen to your elders....lol!!! Love your channel and the info you give to us......Thanks from Dallas, Texas

Great information. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for sharing how to do this
Very cool. Happy New Year! 🎇💖🎇💖🎇
Awesome! Thanks for sharing
Lovely! I might give this a try!
I’ve been making homemade laundry detergent for years. Saves time and money.
Thank you so much for this recipe. I just finished making it. Will try it soon after the store bought brand is done. Hopefully never have to buy brand laundry detergent again.
I found the answer to my question down below, see you guys next year in October, bringing my Bernice shirt.
*PARABÉNS PELO DETERGENTES LÍQUIDO EU DESEJO A FAMÍLIA UM BOM 2020 E MUITAS SAÚDE*
THANK YOU!! you can also use a cement mixer on a drill to mix it. Is that the skirt Loraine was seeing over Christmas? Beautiful!!
Thank you for sharing ... I was going to go fabric shopping, but the yardage isn’t listed on every item, Lorraine. 😊. I’d hate to buy one yard if you were looking to make a dress, lol. ❤️❤️
I use to make my own but I used Fels Naphtha instead of the castile soap but I suppose that doesn't matter. But since we have a front loader and I need low suds soap I haven't made it because I don't know if I can. I suppose I can make up 5 gallons and try it but if it's not good then I have 5 gallons of soap to get rid of.
Love it.
Great video Lorraine and Jason...you too for helping sweet Penelope! Do you know if this is safe for “He” washers? I’ve always wanted to make my own but I wasn’t sure if it was safe. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Love, hugs and blessings ~Lisa
I can say it is safe .I have a high efficiency washer and have been using homemade soap for over 2 yrs.
We've been using a dry mix homemade laundry soap for several months with a nearly identical recipe. It's been perfectly fine for our HE washer. Now, that's not a professional opinion by any means, just our personal experience.
There is a you tube video about what the homemade soaps do to the newer washers . I heard about it on Living Traditions you tube channel
If you have hard water, then don't make this, your clothes will accumulate soap scum due to a chemical reaction between the fats in the soap and the minerals in the hard water.😛
we have a top loader HE. seems fine. thanks LiSA!
For those who are geeks: Washing soda is sodium carbonate, baking soda is sodium Bi-carbonate.
Nice, TY.
Great video!!
Awesome video.
Happy New Year 👍👍👌☺️
Cool! I've made this before and I used a large paint stirrer paddle that I attached to my cordless drill to stir it up. Really makes stirring easier!😊😉
Very interesting
I love this recipe! We use this now, so thank you so much for sharing. The consistency reminds me of egg whites.
Loved your video on Laundry soap! I have made it before but the bucket is such a great idea! I’m going to start using it again! You can buy the Castile soap already shredded too! We are going to make some Castile soap from scratch! It last such a long time! Love your hot pot holder! Do they have magnets on them! If yes how did you do that? Love your channel! Thanks Nancy from Canada
Most supermarkets sell A&H washing soda and borax. Dr. Bronner's is pure castile soap. It comes liquid and bars. Whole Foods has it. edit: I wrote this before I saw you using Dr. Bronners. Try the liquid one next time.
I’m definitely going to do this! Thanks so much!!
Awesome
What a savings that would be thank you
Love your channel, Happy New Year, You can buy all that at wal mart to, but i use my homemade lye soap and mine makes 5 gal of gel, and i use 1/2 cup gel and 1/2 cup water per load equaling 10 gal of laundry soap
Thank you I am going to be making our soap from now own. Can you do one on making shampoo. I want to get away from store bought
If it helps cindy, I have a homemade shampoo on my channel! Id like to see how they make theirs too!
