@@512Squared I think the thing with Loppy is that he likes to give everyone a proper chance in a competitive environment. He now knows that an Antonio/Soucek combination doesn't work and that's probably the last we'll see of them as a starting pair. It's still early doors for this team and the manager to settle in. But let's give the fella a chance and see where we go. We do have some very good players and it'll take time and patience, but I'm optimistic it'll work out in the long run.

Only the very elite midfielders have no weaknesses, so people pointing out the fact he loses the ball or doesn't have the range of passing of Paqueta are just being selective. Look at how much Paqueta loses the ball? Far more... but he can unlock a defence too, and that's why he's in the team.
Soucek can score goals. And that is what wins you games.
I'm not saying Lopetegui shouldn't try different selections to see what works, he definitely should. But people demanding Soucek be dropped after one game where he was not able to link the play in the middle, when that actually has never been his main role are just missing the point. It was the selections behind him in midfield that caused the main issues.
But yeah, of course, most fans tend to think in very black and white terms when it comes to selections... he be good, he be bad... Reality is that a team is an interaction of strengths and weaknesses, with a different matchup every game because how that matches to an opposition's strengths and weaknesses also changes. But yeah, that's a lot of work to figure out... so much easier to say 'he's no good'.

@@RP9SPORT No, no, no... Paqueta loses the ball because he makes poor choices, not always because he's trying to create things. Yes, that happens too, but just watch in during a match. He often gets caught out in the press or just makes the wrong choice, nothing to do with looking for an attacking pass.

Soucek goals last season = 7. Paqueta = 4. Paqueta is also penalty taker. Paqueta has more assists = 6, to Soucek = 2.
So, total direct involvement in goals Soucek = 9, and Paqueta 10. So, yeah, both players contribute to the team in important ways... involvement in 20 goals between them, split pretty evenly.
Silly to simply ignore what Soucek brings to the team.

I'd fantastic first touch gave him the room and bang. He might be at the end of his career but at least he can finish!!! Nikki, I'd love to do one of your post match interviews but can't get to many games as I live up north, don't have a season ticket, so it's difficult. Of all the channels out there you have consistently presented a balanced and knowledgable view over many, many years. My dad scouted for West Ham for more than 15 years on an unofficial basis in the 80s and 90s (the club paid for him to go to Ajax once for 2 weeks on a coaching course!) and when I hear you speak I know he would be agreeing with you almost all of the time (God rest his soul). I remember being told off by John Lyall once in the corridor at Chadwell Heath for looking at the team sheet on a Friday that had just been posted on the wall. He said "you can't be looking at that son, where's your dad?" He then spent 10 minutes talking to me about what I wanted to do in the game and how I could do better.. Sadly I didn't make it. Keep the content coming mate and hopefully we'll meet one day!

JoLo has had to build a new team in very quick time and he still doesn’t know his best combination yet. I think it will take half a season before we get any fluidity. My one concern is the defence, I hope Scarles is upto it if Emerson is injured or loses form.
I’m with you nick, I believe ings has still got it, no striker has it in a David Moyes side, so you could never judge ings. If we start to play balls in the box, ings will show you he can do it ⚒

We conceded 5 here last season and we've come away with a point, we conceded 5 at Palace last season and came away with 3 points this season. After 4½ years of the most turgid football we've ever seen at West Ham people are jumping on JLo after 4 games in charge. What has become of this fan base. It's embarrassing at times. 21 players in/out in the close season to try and repair the absolute shambles of a squad Moyesasaurs left us with. A massive reality check is required by some of these cretins who claim to be Hammers fans.
He's showing faith in the old guard but Lop will learn. Antonio's control is getting worse. The Moyes boys are desperate to say they told us so, would prefer West Ham lose and be right.

I have been saying the same thing about Ings. He becomes a bad player overnight? No he just doesn't play up front on his own. Play two up front and Ings will come into his own.

Praise the manager Nicky?!? Because he corrected his mistake at HT by hooking Soucek & Antonio who shouldn't have started anyway!!! Everyone knows Antonio is poor/knackered after travelling to play with Jamaica & Soucek is a passenger who can't pass a ball but will get the odd goal.
