Surrounding yourself with art that’s a different medium or style really is a great way to feel inspired to create 😊

I really needed this. I started my art journey when I was 12/13 (i’m almost 19 now) and I improved so ‘quickly’ that I got burned out, especially because I was always comparing myself to other artists. When I finally reached a level of art similar to the people/friends I used to look up to, art had just lost all joy for me and I just quit. Now i’ve just got a somewhat dormant skill that I pick back up again every so often but I wish I could just find that child like joy again 😕 my art style/ paintings take so long that I lose motivation by the end of the project

I feel exactly the same way, I thought it was just me. Before I started my Tiktok account I loved art, I grew some attraction and a following so I forced myself in a way to improve more and when I did I had a lot of customers and I took on way too many that I could handle, I completed their work, But doing so, it killed my joy completely. So much so that I quit art all together as well as posting. I sometimes feel like I would never find that joy I once had. But I’m planning to get back into art, and honestly I’m kinda nervous 😅

@@NaomIXoXo I’m glad my peak in the amount of art I created was before tiktok was really a thing. Instagram alone was stressful enough and I could never have posted as frequently as is required to make a platform on tiktok. The art community on instagram was nice, I could definitely not have handled the negativity of tiktok. I never wanted to pursue art as a career because I knew that if I did that it would kill the fun in it, and i guess i was right

I was really needing this, currently going through an art block because I'm not happy with my art and whenever I open social media I can't stop comparing myself to other artists and feel bad for it.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I'm 32 and I've drawn all my life but never ~seriously~. It's really hard to NOT compare myself to people who've gone for an art degree, studio jobs, or a long active social media presence. I just want to feel like I belong in the art communities I admire. Again thank you for making this video: gave much needed perspective!

First one here, thanks for sharing I currently have my first job ever(fast food) and trying to still pursue art and improve it. School wasn't for me so I'm just trying to seriously get better. I'm currently trying to improve my digital art as I'm still a newbie. I love your videos!!! ❤❤

thank you for this. I have been struggling my whole life with comparing, and I also struggle so much to set up my own freelance career. I hope in this lifetime I can make something of myself with my art

Loved the video but especially the art - it is so beautiful, I especially love the green, yellowish accents in her skin, such a small but cute detail🤍🤍🤍🤍

4:28 IS SO REAL. I was working on an art piece and I was enjoying the time like I would be spending 30 mins to an hour on it (that’s a lot to me since I lose motivation FAST) then as soon as I started comparing my art I lose interest in it and saw only flaws and deleted it..

Also, this was a really great video, thanks! Very cool watching your painting and thanks for all the very thoughtful tips. I don’t finish most of my paintings. For years. But I’m doing just a bit better this year. It’s good to hear how valuable it is to finish most paintings.

Thank you so much for this video. I really needed this. I myself started seriously drawing at 17 and was deeply in love with art and couldn't figure out why i was so unhappy through the whole process from start to finish. As time passed i always came back to art and felt it would always be a part of me. And then i had a break through and a happy realization these past two years. What i enjoy about drawing is THE process. Once i accepted that i found peace within the entirety of how i viewed art in general and began to love every emotion drawing and painting put me through even emotions i had formerly stuffed and suppressed. Thank you for sharing your creations and wisdom with the world. As i watched your video i was reflecting on my past art self and felt a deep sense of fondness for the journey art has taken me on☺️
    .
Good luck on your travels, dear!
    Take your time
    Be safe
    And have fun!
    😸❤️😸

Hullo Sara, Good thoughts on a difficult subject! I started when quite young and when the internet was not even a Sci Fi Subject for novels! Even in college I had peer review with instructor input or critic! Social media is a daunting field of abusive and anonymous criticism! There are some good people out here, but some people are quite un-kind! Self comparison is a true road block that many put upon themselves! Thanks Sara good ideas and a sweet video too!

I love this topic, it's something i've learnt to embrace in a way. And as usual i'm in awe with your work. I've been tempted to join your holidays, but it's not the right time for me with a little human to take care of. hopefully one day in the future - fingers crossed! Ever thought about doing an artist trip in UK or around europe?

Ive avoided most digital art and Procreate for too long probably. I feel like i should spend what little time i can painting on canvas. But i think Procreate can be helpful even for traditional painting. The app Spark sounds pretty cool. Do you think it recreates the workflow of digital art on something like Procreate? Like, will i be able to tell if i would enjoy digital painting?

I am a fine art student 2d semester foundation year in animation. I compare ky self with others alot. My teachers told me don't compare your self. You are doing good. But i compare alot , he's so good my artwork is bad . I'm not like him. Even my external teacher told me that don't compare your self you are doing well.

Yeah, BS. Let kids stop comparing themselves to scientists of the past and learn on their own. They'll know how to count to 10 by the end of school. Let sportsmen stop comparing themselves to others in their discipline. Who cares who's faster? Let them all win. Let them run 100 m slowly, enjoying the sun, the air, the bees and flowers.
Not comparing yourself is a swamp. You'll drown. You won't move anywhere. It's a tip for hobby artists. Anyone who wants to achieve anything should look at the best pieces every day and cry. Because once you stop it means you don't care anymore, it means you lost. Yeah, it's not pleasant. These people you look up to went through hell for the skill they have. They didn't settle for current selves. They gnawed their way through the concrete of difficulties. They drank their tears to re-hydrate. They sacrificed a million fun things to get up there. And they don't want rivals so yeah, they'll tell you to not compare.
The dilemma of survivor. You don't hear about the millions of artists who failed and vanished because they didn't compare nor struggle. You only see the results of work of pros. And they worked years to make it look simple and clean. They'll never tell how many bad artworks they made to get there. They'll tell you it's fun. Sure. Now it's fun. Now it's easy to them. Now they don't have to compare because they know they're the best. Art is literally about comparing and trying to match. You could, of course, copy life. But it's infinitely complex. So you need to simplify. And it's done right by these people. So, yeah, look, compare and think what they did right to make infinity of life fit into one pencil stroke.
