@WRLD Probably because you aren't actively thinking about the other language. When you're a language learner, you're often obsessed with learning that language at least for a period of time (though this may not happen with everyone). I'm learning Spanish in school the only part I'm having trouble with in the stem changes, more specifically the one with letter "e" because it turns into "i" and "ie" at the same time but you only use one of them in one word and only one is correct The only advice I got for that part is "that you have to know it by heart" which isn't very helpful
I learn whole sentences saying them aloud. 5 days - 300 repetitions per day at least. Later I don't need to translate. I know the meaning of words straight away like in my native language. And also I remember the meaning longer than by learning separate words. This method is called: chunking. It was a real game changer in my learning process and communication skills in English and other languages.😊
As someone who grew up with both Spanish and English it might be a bit easier to learn other languages. However is my case even though grew up around the Spanish language I’m not confident in speaking it because my mom just assumed I would just know what she was saying and just mimic her, but I’m not going to speak something I don’t what the word is (yes I have even asked what some words were and she never told me because again she just assumed I knew what it was). I know Spanish just not all that well and it’s sad I can’t speak with my grandma because she’s the same like me except she can’t speak English very well.

Really great video! Congrats on reaching 100k!! 🎉 Can you speak Igbo? Do you know any resources that teach it? I live in Nigeria and I'm trying to learn, but have no alternative but to be pestering my Igbo friends for now 😅
Even though you start your journey learning a language with the best resources and methods, it's not that easy. You need to work hard, have patience and find time.

Pay/pirate the app LingoDeer, do all their Korean I and II lessons, then if you have Netflix, watch a lot of K-dramas with KR subs and look up words you don’t know. I almost forgot, if you want to acquire words you see on K-dramas really easily, download Anki, read the manual, and look up and go through the site Refold on how to do sentence mining, have fun.
@ikenna I would just like to say thank you for the motivation you gave me started to learn Norwegian but got demotivated and inconsistent. I speak Afrikaans which is a South African and Namibian language and has a lot of similarity with Norwegian, German and Dutch. I would really like to learn Norwegian so I can speak it with my Norwegian girlfriend as well as just connect with the culture as it really interesting. Is there any foundational tips you can give me regarding the similarities between my native language (Afrikaans) and Norwegian?
i have no come across a language program that adequately teaches vietnamese. like with duolingo you have the words but there is no pronunciation to go along with it. with the pimsleur there are no other supplementary exercises to go along with it like french and spanish.
First, do you have a basic foundation in the language already? If yes, watch stuff in Vietnamese, if you have any Vietnamese TV shows that are on Netflix you’d like to watch, then watch those TV shows on there that have Vietnamese subs, and look up words you don’t know, and place them onto Anki. For info on how to “sentence mine,” look it up on Google. I recommend the site Refold on how to sentence mine. On how to operate Anki, look at it’s manual online, and read through it. If you don’t have a foundation yet, and is just starting in the language, I’d recommend to pay/pirate LingoDeer, do their Vietnamese course, then go on the internet to find some grammar guides, and go through them. For more vocab, you could go onto AnkiWeb and search up a basic Vietnamese vocab deck (if there is one). I may be adding more to this in the future, but for now, have fun learning.

Сейчас я изучаю японский. И я считаю, что kanji - это очень сложно. Кроме того, довольно сложно учить слова - все они кажутся одинаковыми. По твоему совету использую Pimsleur (а так же Lingodeer) - мне нравится. Но пока что я не определился с учебником. Pimsleur - хороший аудиокурс, но не всегда можно повторять фразы (например, в транспорте). Мне лень писать всё это по-английски. Do you have any tips for learning a language as a full time student? I’m in high school, trying to learn French on my own but don’t have too much time in the day to spare.
I'm a full time student as well. I personally stand up half an hour earlier and study these 30 min because when I come home I'm usually too exausted to study. And after school I just look a few episodes of a series and sometimes some videos on UA-cam.(Exactly what I would do anyways in my native language). Also I go to school by bike so I listen to music while cycling. And that's actually it.
You wanted questions but when you see this (IF you see this) it's probably already going to be too late but, can I do my English presentation about you and you channel? I need a theme and I want it to be about languages but the presentation can only last 2-3 minutes so I thought about presenting something about you and recommend your channel to my colleagues since we're all language students anyway, is that cool with you Ikenna? :D
@@IkennaLanguages Thank you Ikenna! Little update: I've done the presentation and I ended up recommending you and another two language-related youtubers plus I talked about our biggest inspiration, Tim Doner :) My colleagues seem to have enjoyed it and my professor was very satisfied too, my mark was an 18 out of 20! Thank you again, I love your content keep up the great work :D
I highly recommend setting the language on your devices to whatever language you're learning so you're more motivated to learn it like I have everything set to Chinese on my phone and computer so I've been much more productive than I ever have with anything before
@Natalie :) You can turn it back without understanding it as long as you remember how to navigate, if you can't navigate it then you should become more familiar with your device before doing this I set mine back without understanding a single character purely because I remembered how to navigate my phone and laptop to change it With that being said, I don't stand by my comment anymore and think that setting your device to another language can make you feel burnt out and uninterested in the language after a while
Immersion-based methods are your friend, especially this site called “Refold,” it’s a really helpful guide for people who don’t have money to spare, and they have tons of resources on their Discord server too.
Pimsleur is available to anyone. Not just Americans. It's just that if you live outside of the US you can't do the 7 free trial. But you can still try a free lesson and of course get the full thing if you like it.
I have been studying Japanese on and off for like 4 years and one of the things I would have to say is pay attention to pitch intonation when you're learning. I didn't even learn that was a thing until last year because no one had even mentioned it anywhere before and I was about to pull all the hair out of my head. Also learn hiragana and katakana. I started with hiragana and I learned it the old fashioned way with flash cards and writing it a million times. It's been apart of me for so long sometimes I forget that I had to learn it in the first place sometimes and I can't imagine life without it. When you go to learn kanji, learn the radicals first, trust me it's a lot easier to recognize/memorise kanji when you know the radicals. Also it's extremely helpful being able to distinguish the radicals when you want to look up a kanji you don't know in a dictionary. As for grammar, Tae Kim's grammar guide guide is free and it's basically what launched me on my Japanese learning journey. It'll give you most of the essentials. Listening to spoken Japanese is important to and something I've found helpful more recently is listening something over and over again and looking up a knew word I don't know each time. I've learned words this way and then all the sudden see it being used everywhere and its really cool. Also I'd get Anki, get the 2000 most used Japanese words and just start learning them. Jisho.org is a Japanese to English dictionary and I usually use that for looking up words. HiNative is really good for asking questions to native speakers. Also, stick with it everyday. I've heard so many people say consistentcy is key and I can't tell you how true that is. As I I said before I've been learning it off and on for about four years and I should be waaaay ahead of what I am currently, but I've gone large chunks in-between where I haven't even looked at a word in Japanese or watched anything Japanese and its set me back a lot. Like I went almost a whole year without touching the language because I just felt like I wasn't progressing and was busying myself with something else instead. Well I got back into it this year and turns out I had progressed a lot more than I'd thought. I was surprised at how much I actually understood and retained, even though I'd lost some of what I learned before. Makes me wonder how much I'd know now if I'd kept with it that year I didn't. But yeah, that's life. And that's some advice from me :p

@@r.nyffenegger3243 its different prices for different languages i checked other ones T.T some are cheap amd u can pay per month but others are just a ridiculous amount
Nice video, but you need to know that learning a language is, in fact, hard for some people, and he has nothing to do with confidence or right resources. You are a polyglot and so that right there tells me something. Six languages in six years? Some people just can't do that. People who learn languages easily have strong neural pathways between the reading and speaking parts of the brain. People with a different brain structure have a very difficult time learning a new language. I can learn a new language -- but it takes me about five times longer than other people, and is much much much more difficult for me. And I have done it all my friend, -- Pimsleur, vocabulary books, watching the news, immersion. Blah blah blah. Your video would be much more accurate and better if you did not make the sweeping assessment that it's not hard to learn a new language. It is hard for some people. I have accepted that and I wish others who find languages easy to learn would have more patience with those who find them difficult.
I too have noticed this in the videos of his I've watched and as a person that takes a while to pick things up, I just know that once I seriously begin learning Spanish, that all my mind will do is compare myself to a successful polyglot that says it's a easy to learn a new language in 6 -12 months and that everyone can do the same thing he can. Now I'm not knocking fast learners, but also worry that some might see those that need a bit more time to take things in properly, as "unmotivated". I'll just go at my own pace though and go to many other language learning channels too so I can remain focused on my goals.
I wouldn't mind to pay $14 every month if the program is really good, even though dolar is extremely expensive in latin countries, i'll check it, thank you!

french series aren't that good in general ;; (from my point of view since i'm french), i think you should try french movies, they're better than series we make ;)
I agree French series aren't that good, really. But I find that series motivate much more than movies, because you watch them throughout a longer period of time and because of that u kind of get a connection to the characters. So I would recommend you to just watch American series in VF.Netflix for example has a lot of series in french.

Confidence is the least of my problems man. My problem is the MOTIVATION...and i FORGET to study a lot...even tho i've LITERALLY WRITTEN what I wanna/should do IN JAPANESE on a paper that's literally in front of me...
Have a good motivator.
I learn English by watching this video lol.
Immersion moment
Planning on visiting family in Bavaria so this was a very good video. Danke :D
Yay he’s back😁😁
I'm at a stand still. I'm still learning but not quite taking it to the next level!
I'm going to keep fighting!
I will learn Spanish.
How do you keep yourself motivated to learn the language you want to?
I’m very extrovert, and it’s not easy to find partners and stay in touch with them to learn a language. So when I’m learning alone I lose my motivation.
There's this app called amino where you can find different fandoms and stuff some people made aminos for language learning. I'm on the german,Swedish, and Russian learning amino-
It is difficult to find someone who likes learning languages, where I live my friends and family neither like.

I'm learning Spanish in school the only part I'm having trouble with in the stem changes, more specifically the one with letter "e" because it turns into "i" and "ie" at the same time but you only use one of them in one word and only one is correct
The only advice I got for that part is "that you have to know it by heart" which isn't very helpful
I learn whole sentences saying them aloud. 5 days - 300 repetitions per day at least. Later I don't need to translate. I know the meaning of words straight away like in my native language. And also I remember the meaning longer than by learning separate words. This method is called: chunking. It was a real game changer in my learning process and communication skills in English and other languages.😊
since you speak so many languages, what language would you speak to ur children in when have them ? btw i love ur vids 💗❤️

It’s kinda crazy ikenna English sounds like he speaks another language
Great video
i have no come across a language program that adequately teaches vietnamese. like with duolingo you have the words but there is no pronunciation to go along with it. with the pimsleur there are no other supplementary exercises to go along with it like french and spanish.
I just bought Pimsleur.
good luck! it's my fav program hope you enjoy it man
I already do bro.
Let me tell you, I'm from Texas..I have a true, slow Texas drawl..im trying to learn Italian..well, it's not going so well.
But he explained everything in more detail in the chapter "adapting to your schedule" of his book

Learning a new skill always requires some effort. Languages are skills too.
Language learning isn’t a skeleton impossibility.
When do you a new video with Brenda ?
New housetour!
I highly recommend setting the language on your devices to whatever language you're learning so you're more motivated to learn it like I have everything set to Chinese on my phone and computer so I've been much more productive than I ever have with anything before
That's too confusing, and If you can't read in that language then you can't turn it back! 🫤
@Natalie :) You can turn it back without understanding it as long as you remember how to navigate, if you can't navigate it then you should become more familiar with your device before doing this
I set mine back without understanding a single character purely because I remembered how to navigate my phone and laptop to change it
With that being said, I don't stand by my comment anymore and think that setting your device to another language can make you feel burnt out and uninterested in the language after a while
I will try it
Do you know of any online language courses that are free? Don't particularly have money to spend rn
Immersion-based methods are your friend, especially this site called “Refold,” it’s a really helpful guide for people who don’t have money to spare, and they have tons of resources on their Discord server too.
pimsleur seems nice but it doesn’t have the language i want to learn
Any tips for japanese beginners?
(Don't live in the US so pimsler isn't an option)
Use Japanese From Zero! Learn hiragana and then katakana. There are apps on your phone you can use to memorize them!

What are your thoughts on repetitive listening?
If you’re talking about spaced repetition, that is a really effective way to learn, and he also encourages it.
Program is mid imo.

I agree French series aren't that good, really. But I find that series motivate much more than movies, because you watch them throughout a longer period of time and because of that u kind of get a connection to the characters. So I would recommend you to just watch American series in VF.Netflix for example has a lot of series in french.
