I have my english exams in a week and I was starting to stress out because I feel incredibly unprepared. Also, all the resources I had and videos I had watched had not been useful, but your video really gave me peace of mind and confidence. Thank you so much!!
This video is underrated, I have a paper 2 internal school assesment coming up in two days, and I found this video very helpful in helping me prepare. Quick question though, is it best to include literary techniques in each paragraph in order to score high in that criterion B section?
100%! Apart from adding the "similar to/in contrast to [text 1]", I used the same analytical sentence structure for Paper 2 as I discussed in my IB Literature 101 video which includes analysis of literary techniques. It's good if you can make a sentence or two of broad literary comparisons at the beginning of your text 2 paragraphs but this isn't totally necessary if you're in a time crunch, answering a thematic question and are going to integrate literary techniques into your paragraph as you go - good luck for your assessments!
hey ashley! thank you so much for the video - it's really enlightening! just asking out of curiosity, in your school, how do the teachers go thru literature lessons? is it mostly group discussion-based with minimal teacher guidance or do the teachers guide the students through the quotes, content etc? just wanted to have a feel of how literature lessons are carried out in different schools, though i firmly believe there's no right or wrong. thank you!! :D
Hey! At the start of a new text the teachers always gave us a bit of historical/literary context. After that, it depended on the text type really. For poems we would have a line by line discussion with input from both teachers and students. For shorter plays, students would take on different roles and we'd read it out in class and the teacher's would give us insight on the most pivotal scenes. And for novels and longer plays, we'd get into groups and each group would be assigned a few chapters to analyse and present to the class. So overall, they were mostly class discussions but with the teachers helping us to analyse the most significant scenes/quotes. How does that compare to your English class?
Thanks for this video! I have my paper 2 on Thursday (and paper 1 tomorrow) ... 😢 and I have a question: With my last timed practice I took too long figuring out my points when I was planning, and that caused me to run out of time in the beginning of writing the conclusion. What would you recommend as the steps to take in the plan, so that I don't start writing the essay too late but do have a strong idea of what I want to write?
@@andrewhhan Yes, I had it yesterday. When you say planning, do you also include annotating the passage? I also took about 5 minutes planning my essay, but I spent about ten minutes annotating the text.
@@TheOGCabbage damn... i ended up memorizing quotes from each major events but I didn't have enough time to discuss all of them so I left a few out... but I ended up finishing one complete essay at least but Im not looking forward to receiving my mark lol
Hi Ashley! I am currently in my first year of the IB and was wondering if you can make a video on how to improve your French quickly. I am taking French (B) SL and I saw in a comment from another video that you took French too! If you can make a video on that I would absolutely appreciate it 😊
hi Annie! Definitely - I was thinking about making two seperate videos. One for learning languages effectively in general and another for IB language exam tips. Is there anything in particular you're finding tricky with French that you'd be interested in me chatting about in either of those?
@@ashleysacademy7496 The biggest areas I struggle with are listening and not knowing enough vocab. Sometimes my teacher speaks really fast and I find it hard to always be able to know what they said. So I was wondering if you have tips in regards to expanding range of vocab and how to improve in listening. Thank you for your help! ❤

You had your paper 1 today, right? For the planning section, I try not to spend more than 5 minutes on planning.

had my paper 1 today (it was awful) gonna have my paper 2 tomorrow (I don't even have the quotes properly memorized yet...)
You don't need to memorize the quotes completely. As long as you reference certain parts of the novel you should be fine.

@@psyche5751 If you finished it and used quotes properly, then I'm sure you'll do fine! Good job!
This is so amazing. What are you doing now? IB teaching could always be your safety
