Jim, Bought, on your review, a Squier Classic Vibe FSR Mustang and I LOVE IT! I never considered or even gave a Mustang a second look. Being 70 years young the light weight, short scale, diminutive size and outstanding playability you’ve breathed new life into my playing. Thanks for your informative and honest reviews and keep up the good work! 😊
Great video and great playing Jim, glad to see you hit the ground running in the new year. A video on some of the different Roadstars that Ibanez put out in the 80's would be cool. There are some real gems there - saw a video of Paul Gilbert playing a gorgeous reverse burst one with a single angled humbucker in the bridge and a floating trem. That thing was killer.
Thanks Panda, it's funny you mention them because I have never had Ibanez on this channel and have been looking around for about two weeks trying to figure out which model I'd like to give a try first.
I've become a proud owner of Char 2020 ZICCA mustang. A green one. I own a few dozen offsets, and a few mustangs. The quality on these are unparalleled and this specific model is quite rare. All my MIJ fit and finish is simply the best you can get but sometimes their pickups sound weak but I have hunch they sound better through Japanese wattage amps. They still sound amazing unplugged. Springy and chimey and squacky without being too buzzy. The perfect fender tone. The dynamic vibrato when setup right totally does this well too but this one has a strat trem. The pickguard goes all the way over the control knobs and jack so there's no chrome plate so it kinda looks it's cross with a duo sonic that way. It's such a sweet instrument
I have a Squier Bullet Mustang (Imperial Blue) that I modded with P90s, a white pearl pickguard with P90 cutouts, locking tuners, roller trees and a neck shim to make it easier to intonate. I also ordered the new Squier Sonic Mustang SS in Torino Red that's supposed to arrive today. I'm also putting locking tuners and a neck shim on it as well. I love how the maple fretboard looks with the red body.
Have to admit I am hooked on the Japanese guitars, especially the short scale! I am an old duffer trying to learn guitar with all my physical maladies so the short scale is very helpful. Been going thru your videos and really enjoying them so just subscribed. Learning a lot and appreciate your videos! Any info on the current Japanese factory offerings might be interesting, maybe the Junior Collection which are short scale but difficult to get new here in the US. Where are they made, etc? Anyway, thanks for your content! Apologies if you have covered this and I haven’t seen it yet.
Hi Jim just learned about Japanese Fender Mustangs cool! I always forget how the Mustang is one of the Fender offsets! Nice playing too and never heard of Char either, going to check him out thanks!
Great video - lovely history, recommendation for the artist too and I have to say it just looks and sounds right to watch you playing a mustang tbh!!!! 😊
I always have a ton of fun playing them, they are so light and the scale length makes it really easy. Didn't expect myself to get so aggressive with it but it really just worked that day ahah
@@AudiomoMusic yeah absolutely- that’s what I loved in the video - it came across how much fun you were having and how the music was just carrying you which is always an amazing sign 😊
I actually rewatched this because I forgot how I played in this video, man that guitar really did sound good and I had a ton of fun playing it. Thanks for that compliment
I bought a candy apple red Fujigen JMG6R (the ones with the "FGN" logo in the goofy take-out food font on the hook-nose headstock) a while back and I love it, but I can't find much information on it or that period of time when Fujigen were producing Fujigen-branded Mustangs and stuff. I'd like to see a video on Fujigen and their branded stuff (especially highlighting the JMG6, though). I also noticed an abundance of cheap red Mustangs on Japanese auction site, so Char not playing red ones definitely explains that. I love fiesta red, so that works out in my favor.
Nice! Have an Arctic White Bullet Mustang that hardly ever gets played. It' s my travel guitar but haven't gone anywhere for awhile so it's been living in It's case. Has a set of Gotoh Magnum Lock-Trad 6-In-Line Tuners on it so there's a little bit of Japan to it. Need to put it out on stand and play it for awhile. Cheers!
Have you tried the FSR CV Mustang that we’re meant for the Japanese domestic market? Those are made it China but came with Fender USA pickups and trem. Amazing workmanship on those. They are just as good as the Japanese Mustangs I’ve tried.
I do find it funny how in Japan they get runs like that for Squier and for Epiphone (the Shinichi Ubukata 355 for example) that far surpass what we get here in the USA in their budget lines. They simply don't settle and even on lower end models make sure they are done to a standard they are happy with. I'm not surprised at all they are great guitars but I haven't actually had one in my hands.
thanks man, for mustangs on the bridge pickup 4mm on the bass side from the string, 4.5mm ( roughly ) on the treble side. It's subtle but it brings a little more low end out of it.
I have a couple of Mustangs but I really find that their sound is not as powerful as in your videos! What would you suggest, hardware wise (effect pedals, pickups, amps etc) in order to achieve a sound similar to yours in this video? Thanks!!
first try raising the pickups, other than that you gotta really push the amp a bit to open them up. What kind of amp are you using, I can try to give you some recommended settings if I know that. They sound really really big once you dial them in and you don't need to replace the pickups OR hardware to get them to sound that way.
the answer for that is weird actually - they didn't want people to confuse these early japanese reissues with older american ones. same reason the color choices were a bit off too. really odd time considering all of this was taking place as the fullerton factory shut down and they were opening up the corona plant
My first electric was a used '64 Mustang. Paid $175 for it.
Bargain! I'm not going to do the inflation calculator and pretend that was extremely cheap even then haha
When did you buy it?

Man this made my day, I'm so happy you decided to give one a try and fell in love with it... they really are such fun guitars.

I’ve been a fan of char for a while. I love his music
Beautiful clean tone and beautiful surf 🏄♀️ playing for the demo!
I see a very nice PRS on the wall behind you. ;) Interesting video and guitar.

Great video, I absolutely love my MIJ mustang. 1995 MG-69 in Dakota red with matching headstock, mustangs are some of the sickest guitars
I love the Dakota Red, severely underrated color - sounds like you have a keeper for life there!
Sounds so good. Mustangs are so awesome for garage rock

Char is incredible, still rips to this day definitely worth checking out!
@AudiomoMusic you know I started listening to the first couple of songs off his first album so far so good thanks!

Adrian Belew also did some time with Mustangs in the 80s.

You should! Short scales are really really fun to jam on!

They are epic man!!!!!!!!!!!!!
great video, btw what is the height of your mustang's pick up ? it sounds so good

Todd Rundgren is the first that comes to mind he was using them back in the 70s

Thanks as always Amin same to you enjoy your weekend
Cool demo. Surf’s up

What is the code word for lacquer when searching Japanese fenders? Rsv?
VSP
Thank you
so, this is a 80's reissue of a 60's mustang, but why does it have the 70's mustang body with the belly carve?^^

belly cut is good. do not question.
No need for that tone z stock pickups get pretty gnarly at the end of this video right? hahaha
What year is that model?
that one is a 1986
@@AudiomoMusic thank you for answering! is it a slab or contoured body?? And do you think that makes a difference in tone?
😮 ve lo que uno aprende saludos y feliz año 🎉🎉🎉
