    The actress who played the female changeling in DS9 also appeared in TNG's "The Chase" as a member of the race who seeded the galaxy with humanoid life. It would have been ever so cool if the two stories were to have been linked somehow

    • @alexbrittain8970

      There's the theory that that race evolved into the changelings. So that's cool I guess.

      Alex Brittain . It would be disappointing that the same race that created humanoid life and tried to bring races together ended up stagnating or going backwards in technology and also created the Dominion.
      I would prefer the idea that they did this across the galaxy, and included the race that would become the changelings in their genetic tampering. It would also conveniently explain why they chose (unwittingly) that similar humanoid form and it wasn't just a mimicking Odo thing.

    Ron Howard's brother Clint Howard has appeared many times in Star Trek. The first was as Balok in the TOS episode "The Corbomite Maneuver". Years later, he appeared in the two-part DS9 episode "Past Tense" as the homeless man Grady, the Enterprise episode "Acquisition" as the Ferengi Muk, and the Discovery episode "Will You Take My Hand?" as a creepy Orion.

      She was also a Lawyer on Babylon 5 & recurring Character N'Toth Ambassador G'Kar's attache (Season One). She's quite a striking woman - looks a bit like M. Barret did as 'Number One'.
      There is that bloke the Doctor murdered on The Orville who has been in all kinds of things from multiple Star Trek Episodes to The Terminator.
      I've been rewatching Babylon 5 and a lot of Star Trek cast show up - Jeffery Combs played a sympathetic Telepath for example.
      Lyta Alexander is Major Kira's Stunt Double on Ds9 and she was also a back ground artist (usually someone in security).
      The ubiquitous W. Morgan Sheppard was on there more than once too as well as in Star Trek shows and a main Character "Blank Reg" in Max Headroom.
      Speaking of which Matt Threwer (Max Headroom) was Rasmusen the thieving Time traveller (from the 22nd Century).
      I wonder if he could show up on Discovery - if they wanted to say he'd already had a go at looking a Century ahead and not two ?

    It should also be noted that the original intent was to have Robert Duncan McNeil reprise his role as Lt. Locarno in Voyager, being given a "fresh start". However, there were some rights issues something having to do with the original writers of "The First Duty" receiving royalties if Locarno's character was used in a regular series. So they just changed his name to Paris and gave him a similar troubled background story.

  • @christiangomez2100

    Hi EC Henry, Here are some ideas for future videos:
    Reused sets (for example I recall during watching the first season Voyager that the cylindrical corridor in the power plant in the episode "Time and Again" was reused in a following episode "Phage" as the Vidiian corridor protected by a holographic image and force field). Or how the bridge of the Enterprise-A was also reused as the bridge of the Excelsior, Enterprise-B, and the Prometheus on Voyager. I'm sure that such examples are numerous, but it shows the creativity of the art and set departments when working with a budget, using existing set pieces and redressing them to look new and different. You could pick some of best and worst examples of reusing sets.
    Reused ship models that appear as different alien ship models on TNG, DS9, and early seasons of VOY.
    Or a video of all the Star Wars easter eggs that appear in Star Trek, and perhaps vice versa. Here is a good source: memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Star_Wars#Star_Wars_in_Star_Trek

    • @conatgion

      That round Corridor is the one Scotty is walking through just before he bumps his head and says "I know this ship like the back of my hand" - it shows up a lot - I think it was used as part of the Klingon sets and many other times too.

    With Robert McNeill being in Voyager; the original pitch was have him play his TNG character Locano but because the rights of that character were held to the writers of the episode to TNG, it was infeasible to have McNeill play Locano so they invented Tom Paris.

    • @Zimionz
      @Zimionz 6 років тому

      The producers also thought that Locarno's character was irredeemable. Tom Paris could have walked away from his trial a free man but chose to confess anyway. Locarno on the other hand had no intention to confess to anything. He even bullied his teammembers into keeping quite about the true cause of the accident.

    Its worth noting that part of the reason Robert Duncan McNeill played both Nick Larcano and Tom Paris is because there was a point where they considered Nick Larcano as the character in Voyager. Sometime shortly between the official signing of Robert McNeil and the premier, they decided to course correct this and change the character.

    • @TheAnanaki
      @TheAnanaki 6 років тому

      It wasn't really a course correction. They couldn't/didn't want to pay the creators of Lacarno royalties to use the character. The writers of the TNG episode own the rights to him. So Tom was created so that everything could stay unchanged with who his character was... a guy who was getting a second chance.

  • @Potrimpo
    @Potrimpo 5 років тому

    Funny thing about Robert Duncan McNeil, it was suppose to be Nick Lacarno who was to be on Voyager as helm officer, but they didn't want to pay all that extra royalty nor Lacarno and so Nick Lacarno became Thomas Eugene Paris while still having McNeil.

    Idea to cover: Memory Alpha writes about Tom Paris:
    "Reasons for not simply bringing back the Locarno character have varied. It may have been because they would have had to pay royalties to the writers of "The First Duty" every episode, even though in interviews the producers of Voyager have said they felt Locarno's actions in that episode made him irredeemable. ("Memorable Missions Year Five" ("The First Duty"), TNG Season 5 DVD special feature) Later, a photo of McNeill as Locarno was used as a photo of young Tom Paris on Admiral Owen Paris's desk in the episode "Pathfinder"."
    I also remember something like that Worf was to appear in one of the Mirror Universe DS9 episodes, but he didn't so they invented a new klingon character.
    So there are these almost-canon connections. And the whole royalties things seems interesting to me, how does that work, who wrote which episodes and characters and so on.

    • @KJYKJY1985
      @KJYKJY1985 6 років тому

      I'd always heard he was supposed to be Locarno in _Voyager_ but they just created a nearly identical character to avoid paying royalties. I was really expecting him to mention it in the video.

    i noticed a few years back certain scifi shows would hire each others actors. star gate especially was taking cast from various shows including farscape & andromeda, then some of their actors went on to star trek as well. even before that i used to watch gargoyles & noticed how much of the cast came right out of STNG. might be interesting to track all the different actors & see where certain films & series have some interesting cast overlaps. for starters, check out the 1989 film Arena, which has Marc Alaimo & Armin Shimerman years before DS9.

    I guess it doesn't fit the parameter of the video, but one casting choice that I found totally bizarre was JG Hertzler as the changeling Laas in the season 7 DS9 episode "Chimera" - just so odd because Martok was such a frequent presence on the show, I would imagine most of the audience figured out it was the same actor almost immediately. Why not hire someone else?

    You should do an episode on how often Troi crashes a ship. I know that 'Skin of Evil', 'Generations' and 'Nemisis' (although the latter she was ordered too) she crashes but there must be times she piloted shuttles or whatever and didn't crash.

      @Djarra 6 років тому

      'Skin of Evil' Prito is knocked out and Troi takes over, although it could be that her intervention was the reason the shuttle didn't burn up and both her and Prito survived. (unfortunatly for Prito he was later killed by Nagelum after sitting for Wesley who inexplicably vanished during the commercial)
      But it is a fan thing that she crashes everything, but there must have been times when she helmed a real ship (not holographic) and didn't crash.

    Here's an idea: it's probably not considered a big deal in this day and age, but once upon a time, DS9 and B5 fans had a bitter rivalry over the marked similarity between the two shows. And, there were certainly a number of jabs the two productions took at each other (Bashir having to babysit bickering ambassadors, Ivanovna using the words "Deep Space Franchise" verbatim, etc), but also the occasional shared cast (Bill Mumy, Lenir on B5, played a small role on 'Siege of AR558'; Patty Tallman played Lyta Alexander on B5 and a number of bit parts on DS9) and who could forget the infamous double-booking of Robert Foxworth (Admiral Leyton, General Hague)? But then there are the virtually identical roles filled by main cast members; Kyra and Delenn are both deeply spiritual people at odds with their brethren dealing with a violent history, Londo and Garak are disgraced men who love their home, the Dominion/Cardassian relationship mirrors the Shadow/Centauri relationship, the Narn might as well be the Bajorans and Klingons combined, Sisko and Sheridan both become messianic figures, the Whitestar and the Defiant are two ships I'm hoping Daniel @ Spacedock will duel at some point, etc.
    I have always wanted to see a comprehensive look at the parallels of these two excellent shows. Care to have a crack at it?

    is the books Macet is Dukats cousin.
    From Memory Alpha "Macet appeared in several of the Deep Space Nine relaunch series novels, including the Gateways Deep Space Nine entry Demons of Air and Darkness, Unity, and Worlds of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Volume One. The similarities between Macet and Dukat were explained as being due to the fact that they were cousins. However, Macet was a much more honorable man than Dukat. The Pocket DS9 story Fearful Symmetry implies that he grew facial hair as a conscious effort to lessen this resemblance. Macet joined Damar's Cardassian Rebellion and fought against the Dominion - in Demons of Air and Darkness, it was established that he commanded the fleet which attacked Rondac III in "The Changing Face of Evil"."
