Are the optical flaws on this new lens a dealbreaker or is it still a value at $125? Check it this new lens here: geni.us/RExjdD Film Roll Mini Lights: geni.us/GSZl (RGB) OR geni.us/OovU9 (White) The Viltrox I recommend: geni.us/RqyHaV The OG Sony 35mm: geni.us/CFFBj
OMG the viltrox is like a too-good-to-be-true lens. I would appreciate if you make a long-term review of its durability, auto focus,... in the future (6 months or 9 months later). We need to make sure that its quality stays the same after long time, because the low price is really suspected. Take care Arthur.
For example Viltrox 75/1.2 since launch got many updates and autofocus got serious boost, now is on par or even better than sigma trio. But black paint on the lens isn't so durable, unfortunately it has a few scratches even though I handle it with care, while sigma 30&56 paint have 0 scratches even I use it for few years already.
Arthur thank you for the angle you're showing. It's the most effective way to push Sony to make some new APSC lenses. This content is really fair and showcases how good those lenses have gotten in an honest and not "all hype" way. It has its flaws as you show. You are without a doubt one of the if not the most reputable Sony APSC channel and your voice counts a lot. Keep up the good work. Gerald complaining about firmware alongside with other creators of great reputation like Philipp Bloom pushed Sony to make new firmware that was lacking on top of the line cameras. Lets push Sony to update those lenses.
Wow, how awesome! I was just on the hunt for a 35ish APS-C equivalent lens with a bright aperture (was considering the 20mm/2.8 or the older 23mm/1.4 since the Sigma 23mm/1.4is much more expensive). This 25mm/1.7 seems like a dream that I did not know I had come true, big thanks for bringing that up mate! 🤩
Awesome and thorough review!! Great that there is an even cheaper and still decent APS-C prime alternative with AF, if you want to go even more compact or lower in price than Viltrox 35mm f1.7. 👍
I own the Sony 35mm. Chromatic aberration is bad on my lens. Otherwise performs well and is sharp enough for me. But I would probably buy the Viltrox 35mm now based on your review.
Love your stuff, Arthur. When you do a side by side, can you label the image more clearly? I’m always searching to figure out which lens is which and it would make your points come across more clearly if I could, at a glance, see which image is from which camera. Thanks!
This series of TTArtisan lenses are, to me, the modern vintage lenses. To me they really nail the character and love the build quality. Go super great with Fuji X-T cameras.
Some vignetting barely qualifies as an optical flaw. It's literally two clicks to fix mith minimal compromises. That's some excellent value. I hope to see something good at 24mm as well soon. That sigma is nice but the price is ridiculous
And how do I fix this "minimal compromise"? As an enthusiastic amateur, how can I correct aberrations without subscribing to various photo editing programs? For me, it's not worth the monthly fee, considering that I use it 2-3 times a year.
The original ZV-E10 is not at a bad price, and healthy, but used a5000 series cameras go for 220-250 bucks on the second hand market. How cheap would be "affordable"?
I don't know man, I'm starting to wonder about you. 4:12 you say the Viltrox is sharper but as you're saying this, once again, the one you say is sharper looks LESS sharp to me. This is the 3rd video I have noticed this on in about as many months from you.
I love the little film lights! The dark spots on the lens though makes it borderline unusable. I always add a little vignette to my photos but that is A LOT.
I don’t see it better than the Sony. The Sony not only has OSS and less vignetting in favor. It is just optically better. Better contrasts, better bokeh, almost no distortion, better minimum focus distance. Just look at the flaring on the TTArtisan. It just shows light out of control. Make sure to use it with len hood. The TTArtisan is just better in sharpness. I almost forget the AF which is more accurate and faster on the Sony

I love this video - it is much better than the one I will do next week.
hahahahaha how can you predict this?

I got the Viltrox 56mm f1.7 and now the 35mm f1.7. in 3 days the 25mm f1.7 should be release. Just unbeatable these 3 lenses

Just ordered the 35mm Viltrox, curious to see how it performs on my a6400! Glad I held back on the Sony. Thanks for helping inform my shopping!
Great video! Would like to see a comparison to the yongnuo 33mm f1.4

I will try to remember, missed it this time.
@ thanks man. Appreciate the response. I really dig your videos and learn a lot. I want to understand everything you’re saying.
Hoping for a mark II of their small 27mm 2.8
I think Fuji owners would be quite excited about that.

Until you shoot in the dark and recognize a hideous noise pattern in the corners

@@nicuchitineac1950 You can use darktable. It has a vignetting module that can be used to add or remove vignetting.
Bad autofocus on some sony cameras.
a6700 - good autofocus
zv-e10 - In photo mode it works slowly. In video mode it jumps constantly.
I wish they release a zoom lens soon!
I think its only a matter of time.
Maybe a review of the TTArtisan 23mm f1.8 once the E-mount is released?!?! Hoping for some new lenses at this focal length.
Now if they could just make an affordable camera that would take the affordable lenses.
I think DJI is working on this plan....
Finger crossed 🤞
Looks like E mount is not open mount. You do not see any other E mount camera beside Sony. L mount, m4/3, EF mount are open.

The 6000 and 6100 are currently very affordable, especially on the used market.
It's not the lens doing nice photos but Arthur 😄
Nice lens, I like it even with those acceptable problems.
decent lens, but for the price, you can't go wrong.
TTartisan or Viltrox 35mm 1.7? planning on the first prime lens to take it everywhere. Thanks
That Sigma 30mm f1.4 is my go to. I find the 45mm ff equivalent to be mush more versatile.
the Meike 33mm f/1.4 is also a good choice.
@ Thanks, im looking to improve the sharpness from my tamron 18-300
What do you think which one is better sigma 30mm f1.4 or Sony 35mm f1.8 oss for both photography and video
The Sigma is the better lens out of the two, even though you give up OSS. The Viltrox 35mm F1.7 is even sharper than the Sigma.
Can't buy it... I need that front lens cap USB port! ;)
No USB-C on the front cap? Sorry that's a hard pass.

with these new tiny lenses, all I need is a small camera with a6700 features😅

😢 Another Sony E Mount lense which can't replace the Sony SEL 35mm f/1.8 (at least for me cause I'm still using the A6300).
The vignette is really bad. In most cases, I’d say unusable images.
Why buy cheap Chinese manual lenses in 2025. If I want a good manual lens I bye Japanese Takumar or stick to my Sony
Can you send me some of your lenses for research purposes 😂😂
