    Imagine Wanda created this "dome", but had no idea what it is and that she's in control. And step by step she comes to the realization that she holds people hostage and she's terrified (like in the beginning of civil war) and she's trying to find a way to free everybody (with the help of Vision and maybe outside world). Because she's a hero. And heroes usually try to save people, not enslave them.

      She did not realize the extent of her powers, that chaos magic spews out her emotions into everything.
      Her denial of her power is a result of her wanting to regain the simple family life she lost. By becoming Scarlet Witch she acknowledges her power rather than denying it. This was what the mind stone was urging her to do in that vision
      Her powers come from an evil demon. She must master the Chaos Magic to stop him as no one but Wanda can do this.

    The "explanation" for the bullets bouncing off the '70s outfit was that it was apparently 87% Kevlar... but even if it had been 100%, Kevlar doesn't work like that. It's not like bullet-repellent, like you could make any thin article of clothing out of Kevlar and it would stop a bullet cold. It works _because_ it's thick. Because it disperses the kinetic energy of the bullet out over a large area, slowing it down enough so that it doesn't penetrate all the way through (if you're lucky). But, no. Current Year screenwriters think "Kevlar means bulletproof, therefor bullets will simply bounce off of anything made of Kevlar, as if they'd hit Superman in the chest."

    • @666FallenShadow
      @666FallenShadow 3 роки тому +12

    • @zardox78
      @zardox78 3 роки тому +24

      @@666FallenShadow Yeah, even without defaulting to the "It's just magic" excuse, this is a world where they've had access to advanced alien technology for like a decade. They could've just invented some other fantasy bullshit bulletproof substance within this universe (akin to vibranium or adamantium), and it would've been un-falsifiable. But I guess it would take even more effort to come up with a new name for the bulletproof bullshitium than it would have to spend 5 minutes looking up the real life characteristics of Kevlar. And since they weren't willing to do the latter, it's not so surprising that they didn't care to do the former.

    • @petriew2018
      @petriew2018 3 роки тому +9

      if you want to get especially technical, Kevlar works because of it's tensile strength. It's not especially heavy, it's just extremely hard to break. It's usefulness as a bullet protection is because it prevents the bullets from easily penetrating which then causes the energy of impact to disperse across the harder material beneath it, usually hardened steel plates.
      so something made of '100% kevlar' is actually pretty poor armor against a bullet just by iteself anyway. It may prevent penetration, but would do nothing to protect you again the impact of it. If it's only 87% Kevlar, unless the entire front of it is 100% kevlar... yeah, that won't do you much good anyway since the stuff that ain't Kevlar will fail anyway.

    The premise of this show reminds me of an episode of Batman The Animated Series. It centers around an actress with a condition that keeps her from aging. She used to star in an old sitcom called Love That Baby as the title character Baby Doll. After she left the sitcom to become a serious actress it was cancelled, and her acting career never went anywhere. Depressed and down on her luck, she yearns for the days when she was happy and fulfilled making the sitcom, while having a "real family" in the other actors. There is also some psychological issues involved with her condition and her attaching her identity so strongly to the character of Baby Doll. So she ends up having all the people from the sitcom kidnapped, so she can play pretend that the show is still running and be happy again. Batman then comes and puts a stop to it.
    In the end, Baby Doll does show regret, breaking down crying and apologizing that she never meant to hurt anyone. She hugs Batman's leg, and he actually comforts her.

It wouldn't be much less evil if it was productive but I guess Wanda had to be sure that absolutely nothing remotely good could come out of this situation /sarcasm.
      Of course, the intention is for Wanda to be a hero, not a villain, which this show has utterly failed to portray. A hero does not shackle the very minds of about a thousand people into mind slavery just to help with the hero's own personal grief and that is something that literally every moral philosophy can agree on. I'm sure that you do not support mental slavery either. Just because the show became bad doesn't mean that you're a bad person for being a fan of it. You would only be a bad person if you would do what Wanda did if you were in her shoes and, while I don't know you, I am certain that you are not as bad of a person as Wanda is in her eponymous show.

    The moment Wanda appeared in Age of Ultron, they made her powers confusing and it has never stopped. In the comics she had the mutant powers of altering reality. Then she was taught magic by Agatha. In AoU her powers were...telepathy and somewhat telekinetic? Then in IW it seemed like she was projecting some random red energy....? Then in Wandavision she seemed to have the reality-bending powers from the comics. But then with the Agatha reveal Wanda seems be a sorcereress and had her powers even before she was with Hydra. But sorcery is taught so it makes no sense. I would understand if she had powers from birth and she was a mutant and that power was reality-affecting. I don't get where magic comes into play.

    The MCU has gotten the Mirror Match down to a science. What makes a Superman vs Luthor or Batman vs Joker conflict so intriguing is because of the seemingly mismatched adversaries and you’re invested as to how it may turn out. It boggles my mind as to why Spider-Man fans are hungry for a Spidey vs Venom fight when a Spidey vs Electro or Spidey vs Scorpion or even a Spidey vs Kingpin match have historically been much more satisfying.

    It's a tiny fraction of a deeply flawed while, but that final exchange between Monica and Wanda is just...so many flavors of awful, and I think part of it is how easily it should be to fix.
    We start with the horrible, stupid original:
    Monica: "They'll never know what you sacrificed for them."
    Wanda: "It wouldn't change how they see me. And you, you don't...you don't hate me?"
    Monica: "Given the chance and given your power,
    I'd bring my mom back. I know I would."
    I feel like I can see what they're going for, but it's just all off in some way, like it's a reflection in a funhouse mirror.
    First off, it's crazy for Monica to apparently be faulting the victims of Westview for being too ignorant to recognize how heroic Wanda was. But I want to focus on her second line, because...wow. It's almost like they brought on members of the 'Batwoman' writing team for that line.
    You'd think that the exchange would go something like this:
    Wanda: "You don't hate me?"
    Monica: "Don't get me wrong. I'm definitely angry, but...I've lost family, too. If I had your kind of power back then, I might've done the same as you did."
    You'd think that the goal is to convey that Monica still considers what Wanda did to be wrong, but that she has personal reasons to empathize with why she did it in the first place. Plus, you convey a level of uncertainty regarding what Monica would have done if she had similar powers to Wanda. She knows what the morally right thing to do would have been and likes to think that she would have done it, but she knows how painful that sort of loss is and recognizes that she can't truly grasp the raw temptation that Wanda was subjected to without ever having had similar powers of her own.
    But instead, the writers just wind up making it _abundantly_ _clear_ that Monica getting superpowers from this whole ordeal is an absolute disaster. She says, in no uncertain terms, that there would have been no debate if she had a chance to do the same thing Wanda did with Vision for her mother. Literally the only thing that prevented it was the fact that she lacked the ability to do so. It's one thing to admit that you know what the morally right thing to do is but can't say for sure if you could resist temptation. It's another thing entirely to say 'I know what's right, but I'm only doing it because I can't do otherwise.' She also frames it as if she'd do it now if given the chance. This isn't an adult looking back at herself as a grieving child and admitting that she would do anything to have her beloved mother back without considering the consequences. This is an adult saying that she'd bring her back knowing what the consequences are.
    Also, according to the wiki, Monica's mom died of cancer during the five-year timegap between the IW and EG while Monica was dusted and then returned. Why the hell wasn't that used for fodder in this disaster of an exchange? Something like:
    Monica: "If I had your kind of power and a chance to bring back my mom...I think I'd tell myself it'd only be for a few minutes. Just for a chance to say goodbye. And I think I might even believe I could hold myself to that, right up until the moment I had her back and knew that the only thing that could take her away again is me."
    It's just...what happened to 'With great power comes great responsibility'? Why is it considered a good outcome when a 'hero' gets superpowers and almost immediately afterwards says what boils down to 'With great power comes the ability to do whatever I want'?

    Quicksilver in the movies does seem to have superstrength - when the mansion is blowing up in the third movie, he is tossing things around pretty much effortlessly.
    I recall a discussion of the differences between the Flash and Quicksilver. MCU Quicksilver basically has the speed of The Flash, whereas in the comics he just isn't all that fast.

Scarlet witch is absolutely a villain, but a thing they referenced mildly and then completely bury, is that there isn't anything anyone can do about it. There isn't anything she can do to make things better than to go as far away from people as she can to learn to control herself
    To quote a murderous trash panda, "everyone's got dead people, no reason to get everyone else dead along with them". To bad Monica Rambo doesn't agree...

    9:05:00 That's a cool way to have Darkseid's motivation work is the take that free will causes strife. "If you remove choice from the equation, people won't go to war" or something.

    4:42:44 Last time I saw the darkhold was at the end of Season 4 of Agents of Shield, where Coulson gave it to Robbie Reyes(Ghost Rider) so he could take it to hell. It was a book that would give you the answers for anything you seek, but at the cost of driving you mad. They casually summon a book from HELL.

      Every series made before Disney+ is now non-canon.
      That's actually sad, because I loved Daredevil, and now they'll probably recast him.

    People who claim that Wanda didn't do anything wrong are the same people who think Count Dankula should've gone to jail because he taught his pug to heil hitler as a joke.

      But shouldn't they be more understanding of him making a joke when they're understanding of her doing this?
