- After much research the DK2 Stump Grinder seems to be highest rated and best "portable" stump grinder. I put it to the test with a 34" Oak stump and then a 16"-18" Pine stump.

One of the most useful videos I've found. We had a bunch of trees taken down, and I have probably around 30 stumps. Most pine and cottonwood, but some tougher hardwoods. It would cost about as much to have the stumps removed as it did to clear the trees so I was looking a doing it myself. I am in good(ish) shape for my age, but I am definitely taking your advice to heart. 3-point it is!
What a fantastic review and example of how it works. Thanks for the time you spent doing it. I'm struggling on if I should buy or rent one. I don't have an overwhelming amount to remove, but I would be nice to have one on hand when needed and can do in my own time. The 3 point versions seem to be the most attractive to me and there isn't an additional engine to maintain. I hesitate to invest in one....one big reason is I know many people who would be wanting me to come over and take care of all their stumps. Maybe renting would be the best!
Think you! $1500 to buy this or $2600 to buy a standard 3 point I would definitely go 3 point. The fancy 3 points that are more maneuvrable run $7000 though, much nicer but not sure it's worth the cost unless you are making money with it. I'm being told $500 to rent a hydraulic grinder for a day where i live so I'll probably buy a 3pt.
@@rednecktech82 When we rented a stump grinder a few yrs ago, I believe it was less than $300 for the day. We kept it working for 9 1/2 hours non stop.
You normally check the engine oil level EVERYTIME you use a machine with a small engine, yellow tags or no yellow tags.
Thanks for video. Been thinking about buying a grinder to make money. Now i absolutely know to buy a machine thats gone make the job much easier and faster.
RNT, Thanks for your video and effort to show and tell! Very informative on this grinding tool.
Excellent display of the noise.
Thank you for putting goggles on. Accidents happen in an instant and there is no going back. Don't forget ear protection too!
good job!! you have helped a LOT of people with this video. including me.
Thank you, I'm glad to hear!
Thank you for posting a thorough video unlike most of the clowns out there
I speed up the grinding after showing real time for a short bit so you can see how it works...final thoughts at 9:00
i just have a bonfire at the stump i want gone. 12 beers later its history!
Not true at all.
@@davidmaj4259 Might be true if he is drinking one beer a week.
Are the rear tires self-propelled or do you have to push it manually
Manual...that's what makes it such a bear to move around and use.
Boy oh boy is that "pedestal" ever dangerous.
How did you get your machine off the delivery truck ? I have one coming in soon with no forklift
Gantry crane... But 2 people could lift it off the back of a pickup truck. It's not fully assembled.
can you link the 3 point hit you were talking about?
This is what I got and Love!! ua-cam.com/video/z5dP3b-iQtk/v-deo.html
This is an old vid I know, but is the stump grinder heavy to lift and maneuver? Looks like it would tire you out moving it around.
Not so bad wheeling it around but it's a bear to use as you're tipping it back and slowly lowering it into the stump and pivoting it aroundas it works...so you're holding the weight of the machine there.
Despite a couple jerk comments that were put on here I do work out regularly lol and do a lot of cardio running 5 to 10 miles a day, that being said I found it very tiresome but in all fairness I was also grinding oak stumps that were 50" plus across. I don't imagine it would be near as bad for small quick stumps.
Would be a lot better to cut the stump lower..that's how I do mine..
what 3pt stump grinder did you get? any reviews on it?
I actually have one coming this Tuesday but I'm still waiting on the rear remotes for my tractor hopefully have a review up in a couple weeks on a 3pt!... And I'll tell you where you can get it for about a $1,000 cheaper than anywhere else!
@@rednecktech82 thanks for the response...what brand did you get? How many hp is your tractor?
I went with Baumalight, 3P24 model with my tractor being at about 45 hp at the pto.
Decided against cheaper horizontal models for reasons I'll get into in my vid. Horizontals average $3,000 vertical models w/swing average $6,000
@@rednecktech82 ...A-way equipment 3point stump grinder is quite impressive, if you haven't seen that one.
What oil do you need?
You don't want to hit stones that wears them down bad !
to slow I can build one of these to probably work better and i think I moght and market it because this is ridiculous!!!
Have you built one yet?
