+Rafael Castillo Oh, yes -- the worse Palin got, the more Couric blinked. And I'm pretty sure she was trying really hard not to start smirking. You can just see the corners of her lips twitching.
This was one of the most concise, spot-on takedowns of a politician I've ever seen. This woman was in over her head from the start, yet trying to pretend like she wasn't. She was trying to repeat GOP talking points from her briefing books and crash-course debate prep sessions like a trained seal, but ended up instead with a ridiculous word salad: job creation, increasing trade, reducing taxes, cutting spending. The funny thing is that it should have been an easy response for an experienced politician, but she wasn't used to having her knowledge questioned like this. The "you betcha" "I'm a grizzly mama" BS that she pedaled as mayor of Wasilla and her failed, half-term governorship wasn't going to cut it on the national stage. This was essentially Gary Johnson, another unqualified idiot, with his "What is Aleppo?" moment.
There was Trump’s response to the “nuclear triad” question in one of the primary debates. I think that comes very close, but this remains the absolute bonkers one.
0:59 She abruptly switched in the middle of a thought to something totally different. Health care reform to “job creation.” None of that had anything to do with the Wall Street bailout. This silly woman would have been a disaster in a position of national leadership.
A couple years ago someone else, a teacher made the best comment ever on Sarah Palin. He said that watching her in these interviews was"like a student who hasn't done the required reading trying to bullshit her way through an exam."
...and it all has to happen under the umbrella of job creation, because when the mustard slides down the hill of opportunity, the entire pack of salamanders will run to the marshmallow factory to find some electric wiring for the future of cloud formations...makes sense to me! Whew! we dodged that bullet.
"...that is one of the most pathetic pieces of tape I have ever seen for someone aspiring to one of the highest offices in this country." Perfectly put.
+Sal Rodriguez Seriously, I made more political sense when I was around 10 than Palin has ever made in her life, and I had a much better command of the language then than she has ever had.
And this interview had me cracking up. Therefore Tuesday’s debate between #DonTheCon and VP Harris had me splitting my sides with laughter… There’s no way that guy should be anywhere near the oval office
@Viccerz ...less than half in 2000; more than half in 2004; it's amazing how integrity and good leadership will influence an electorate four years later...
Zeemba is right; possibly deranged, but he's right. If Palin could not give an answer b/c the question was poorly phrased (as opposed to being unable to answer because she was ignorant of the issues and totally out of her depth) then why didn't she just ask Couric to clarify/restate/repeat her question? Why didn't she make the (dubious) points that you, someone NOT seeking high office, have made? Because she was totally unqualified for the job, and it's amazing some people still don't see that.
Jack Cafferty's bash on Sarah Palin is as legendary as Palin's interview with Katie Couric. It will remain as the quintessential example of how not to run a presidential campaign for future politicians. But more importantly, the barbed manner in which Cafferty owned Palin is what makes this so memorable. I've watched this video many times and no matter what, I can never get past his sarcastic question at 1:36 without bursting out laughing as if I were watching a comedy. It so accurately pinpoints the thoughts of the viewer with respect to Palin. It put to shame the whole campaign, it put into question John McCain's decision skills, and it is an embarrassment for the GOP as a whole that Sarah Palin still has a voice to represent them with.
+Benzene The Katie Couric interview is probably the single worst interview given out by any major candidate in any election in US history up to this point. It was just a total train wreck. And the real tragedy is, it wasn't like Couric was trying to destroy Palin. She just kept handing over some rope while Palin tied a nose around her neck and jumped off the nearest cliff.
Two things. The way Jack tried to stifle a laugh when reading "Is Sarah Palin Qualified To Be President?". The look that Jack has on his face while Wolf is trying to make excuses for Palin is priceless...LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@itpduder The one thing I give Gibson the most credit for was he didn't gift wrap the question for her after she proved her ignorance. He kept trying to clarify the question until he finally just had to explain the whole thing to her.
@zenbrenzz I do live in the south, Alabama. We're in the process of opening a German steel plant that took over 6000 people to build and will employ over 4000 people. And isn't far from two other similar steel mills. We also have half a dozen car manufacturers with several more in the process of being built. We're growing extremely fast and it wouldn't have been possible if unions were here, they would've built elsewhere to avoid them.
I've seen this a while ago, just saw it again in another video and had to watch it again. I love this so much, i think it's the first time i've ever seen any news anchor (except on Fox News) go so off queue, most likely in fear that this woman could have been the Vice President. He really says it how it is lol
Katie must have been sporting major journalistic wood during this interview knowing how huge this was going to be when it aired. Love Cafferty's look at the end as Wolfe is trying to be all diplomatic.
Wish we had more people like Cafferty when Kamala Harris was running for office. He would've called her on her shit and everybody meaning the American people would've known early on that Kamala Harris should not be running for the highest office. We had serious reporting back then. But now look at our media where we get our news so pathetic like shows The View what an embarrassment 🤡🤡🤡
I still think that the country is far more polarized than 10 years ago and I lived there for 5 years. We were a super power up until WW1 and the US seems to be going through the same process we went through trying to be the world's policeman and not having the financial muscle to back it up. Consequently its getting into deeper and deeper unsustainable debt.
According to her, the bailout helps those who are concerned about healthcare reform. Healthcare reform is needed to help sure up our economy. The bailout is all about job creation, which also sures up our economy and puts it back on "the right track". So healthcare reform, reducing taxes, and cutting spending has to accompany tax reductions and tax relief for Americans. We have to view trade as opportunity, not SCARY. 1 in 5 jobs being created in the "trade sector" has to be viewed as opportunity... Everything I just mentioned is under the umbrella of job creation. I have a lot of respect for Wolf Blitzer. He is a classy guy trying not to insult or demean Palin even though you can tell that he wants to and it would have been so easy for him to do so.
This is the first time i've seen it since it was originally aired. It's quite obvious that Mama Grizzly is reading notes off the palm of her hand, which she was caught doing later on.
Katie Couric asked why the bailout money went to the big banks and why it did not go to the ordinary people. She did not endorse Obama, she asked a neutral question.
i sounded exactly like that when i put Elmers Glue in another Cub Scouts cap and i got caught or was the chief suspect and was interrogated by the Episcopal minister the following Sunday (i was about 8 yrs old at the time though)
Palin's rambling nonsensical answer is the politician's version of Miss Teen USA 2007 South Carolina explaining why "maps" aren't more well-known to Americans. This is SO classic.
@itpduder there was no one Morone Doctrine either, it's a phrase used to describe Monrone's policy towards european expansion. The Bush Doctrine is a common term used to describe a specific thing. it wasn't a gotcha, frankly I think Gibson looked surprised Palin didn't know what he meant by it.
@chrycohauler Just to put things in perspective, an angry drunk with a loaded gun is also a force to be reckoned with. Being "a force to be reckoned with" doesn't mean that the force is either under control or being used for good.
@Melthornal at Melthornal. You are correct, where someone obtains their degree doesn't always necessarily connotate intelligence. But there is an obvious strong correlation between academic achievement/excellence and intelligence as there is a correlation between academic failure and lack of intelligence. There are always rare exceptions. In regards to this topic, graduating top of your class among America's brightest, indicates intelligence,
@invicta420 that's a pretty shallow understanding, only in the last few years has the federal reserve even been considered a problem. Since 1913 the U.S. became the worlds biggest economy or do people just forget that? very successful.
One cannot ignore the fact that Sarah Palin had more experience as an executive leader than Sen. Obama ever did. She served as Governor for 2 1/2 years while Pres. Obama served as a US Senator for 3 years, most of which was spent campaigning. Palin is not a stellar orator, but to claim that Obama is a great communicator is laughable. The media unfairly makes repeated attacks on this educated woman.
All joking aside, I went into this with an unbiased opinion on what I was about to hear. I sat through this twice and I cannot find any single point she was trying to make in her answer to the question. Maybe it's me that's the crazy one, but I tried to cut her a break and I could not. It was THAT BAD!!
@Nickibal-- And the even more shocking thing is that after 2.5 yrs.. she STILL hasn't bothered to study for the higest position in this country. The only thing she does differently now is she not only uses her hands as cliff notes, she uses her arms, fingers, legs, podiums, walls, the top of her kid's heads, and it looks like she writes cliff notes on precious little Trig's stomachs, as she appears to grab him up and kiss his little stomach during certain parts of her "speeches". So sad.
I totally agree with Jack Cafferty, now I wonder what he would say if he had President Trump answering the same policy questions. After reading Phil Ruckman's book on Trump not even knowing what happened at Pearl Harbor, I think Sarah Palin looks good to me again! ha!!!!!
I have looked at the British expansion and the naval race with Germany before the first world war. The British navy was untested in dominance of the seas and no other country could stand up to them. The birth of the dreadnought started a new race of newer ships which could take over a port. This I have looked at. It also good to see the growth of the United States during the later 19th century and the expansion of industry. In the early 20th century, America was stronger than before.
@togowack I'm sure prayer was removed because everyone is not christian... it was replaced with a "moment of silence" ... school prayer is the very least of our worries ... people can pray anytime
What was the question asked? Couric asked a rambling incoherent question about the bailout, health care, housing, and food. Not to mention it had the nonsensical premise that not doing a bank bailout and instead giving the money to "middle class families" was an alternative (is Couric aware the bailout was a loan not a gift?). And not to mention it had the false premise that "the banks", not the government (via agencies created to make risky loans), "caused this mess".
Mushy response by Wolf; he apparently was afraid to piss off Republicans by agreeing with the obvious point; "not her best answer" doesn't begin to describe that confused, deer in the headlights attempt to find her way from total confusion to the talking points she had rehearsed.
@Meansofviewing i am originally european too and have lived in several european countries in my life. i have lived in the u.s. for over 11 years now. i agree that palin is pathetic, however, don't say that the whole country is. this is STILL the country that offers the greatest amount of equality and opportunity in the whole world. i don't want to write a novel here but europe is still light ages behind the u.s. in all things that matter (unless of course you are concerned with fashion,etc.).

Maybe shes the reason Obama won lol
The gross irony is, of course, that now the actual president is saying much stupider things than that...on a daily basis.
Palin is a saint compared to Hillary Clinton you keep that in your prepossessing head Morpheus .
What's scary is Palin is actually better than Trump. Never thought I'd ever be saying that, but it's true.
Bring Jack Cafferty back!! He's not afraid to speak his mind and what he says is always spot on.
I would LOVE to hear his take om MTG and the rest of the nutjobs in the GOP. And btw. Palin is running for congress in Alaska..
