My favourite animated show in a long time. Disney weirdly seem to be doing a lot of Isekai/portal quest shows. Just wish the Owl House was getting a full third season like Amphibia. Can't help but think Disney had ulterior motives in giving it a quick wrap up.
Luz truly has to be one of the most likable cartoon protagonists I’ve ever seen. Usually the “overly happy” type of protagonist can come off as annoying, but the writing, animation, and Sarah-Nicole Robles’ incredible acting just make her come off as so charming.
I totally bounced off this show the first time I watched it. Based solely on your assessment of it I shall be giving it another go. Very charming video btw
This video made me smile so much, I love the Owl House so much! The character writing show on this show is truly spectacular and this is such a good analysis to why it’s just SO GOOD! This was a great video!!
Yeah, been loving both this and Amphibia. I mean Luz's mannerisms are SO endearing ❤ [SPOILERS FOR SEASON 2] . . . . I especially liked the way they animated Luz explaining to Amity what she did to get her library job back for her. The hand gestures, the pose, waving to Edric and Emira? Gold ✨ . . . [SPOILERS OVER] Loving the analysis as always 💕💕💕
Hell yes I'm so glad you love to look at these details i get obsessed on this too and you pick up on fascinating parts! The creative directors and animators will be so happy
Fun fact. I wasn't sure I'd like the owl house. But about 2 weeks ago I was thinking alright I'll give it a try. And here I am! Officially a fan of it!
I can understand how and why people were so frustrated by Steven Universe not moving it's plot faster (the erratic release schedule did not help) but it's always irritated me when people referred to episodes or scenes that didn't progress the primary narrative as 'filler'. This video does a great job outlining how these types of scenes can be fun and important.
Concerning the script economy, I think a better way of formulating it might be that the script needs to advance at least one of the following: plot, characters, world building. By explicitly acknowledging that there are other important things besides plot in a story, we can still take a minimalist approach whilst incorporating important stuff like (seemingly directionless) character moments, or plot-irrelevant exploration of the world. That's my two cents on the subject anyways...
I think the Owl House is a perfect combination of all the good aspects of a story. Great characters, realistic relationships, interesting plot, addressing serious issues effectively, diversity that's not there just for the sake of "wokeness" and so much more. One little thing that really satisfied me was a key point in Amity's character growth. In the episode where Willow loses her memories, we find out that the way Amity pushed away Willow and acted mean to her wasn't really Amity's fault. They could have just used that as an excuse to gloss over Willow's feelings and say "well, it wasn't Amity's fault, so Willow forgave her". But no, Willow did get hurt and her feelings are acknowledged. Amity apologized and Willow doesn't forgive her right away, instead says that they could work things out slowly. This is something that's missing in a lot of shows. If a character's fault isn't their fault or in some cases, even if it is, as soon as they apologize or better themselves a little, the other characters are expected to forgive them. This brief interaction between Willow and Amity shows us that you don't need to forgive someone immediately, instead you can work out your relationship together.
Took a look based on your video and analysis.. it's so joyful and apparently Just gets better.. it's a reassuring, affirming little animation.. fun.. great to unwind to. Ta for the heads up and little hints for looking at it in a way that heightens your enjoyment.. ace stuff, Curmudgeon 🔥👍
This is a really nice video, but some things you say are just flat out wrong. Lilith and Eda show they've learned how to do glyph magic after losing their magic powers in the season 1 finale. You: "It doesn't contribute to the plot"
I get what you're saying, but that's not what my point is with that specific moment. The whole episode is there for the purposes of giving Eda and Lilith direction after they lost their magical powers, that's their entire B-plot of that episode specifically. The moment at the end doesn't add to that, and it doesn't need to. That is to say, that ending scene doesn't add any more plot information to the table than we already know from the course of the episode--it's just a great character moment where the focal point is clearly characterisation, and not plot.
@@CurmudgeonMedia Thanks for the response! (My comment was more mean than I thought at the time, sorry.) I still think the scene was valuable, showing how fast and how skilled regular witches can become with glyphs. Since in the next episode they use glyphs in combat. Luz also went from a problem child to teaching a class, she grew up so fast. And by the end even she was surprised how fast the sisters learned glyphs. Honestly I think Eda and Lilith's personalities are the least important bit there since we know about them. Maybe to show how even if Eda isn't as great as Lilith she manages to catch up? Dunno. Maybe I don't know what I'm talking about. shrug
“It has no reason to be their” can be both the greatest compliment a scene can get or the worst insult
in this case, it is 100% a compliment

yeah, cutting that third season short is pretty suspect, especially given how much money they've pumped into it and the massive support it's received

It's wonderful, the first few episodes aren't the best representation of what the show has to offer!

for real, there are some fantastic shows out there where the plot is practically non-existent

Well I definitely need to give the show another chance. Love the video, thank you!
yes you must!!!
Did you get to watch the show?
@@jamingrocks9334 yes!! I’m really glad I did ☺️
I also love that there like NO FILLER EPISODES
Well in season 2 at least season 1 is a different story.
my one question is why is eda's name now enid
Lol it's because it's an alternate universe, I called Luz "Liz" and Eda "Enid" for comic effect
here a question when session 2 is done are you going to make a remake of this video with the new things we got when it end?
No
@@CurmudgeonMedia ok thank you.
You actually watched it!

Could never overcome that animation style. Seems like a westernized rip off of isekai.
