In this novice video, I show you how I personally change my guitar strings, clean it, all while doing it on a budget. I change my electric guitar strings depending on how much I've been playing but I guess an average benchmark to follow is no more than 6 months. I like to keep them fresh and silky so I change them more frequent. I'm sure there are many different ways to skin a calf but this is how I personally do mine and it's worked for me the last 8 years of playing.
