Yes, volvo is a good car very nice & comfortable to drive, it's more easy to maintain than other continent car. It's looking more to classic & with sentimental value, so all the volvo lovers keep up using for life, volvo is always a safety & reliable car, so be happy with volvo forever. Good luck everyone.

That is the best shape I've ever seen a current 240 in. It must have been consistently garaged and serviced. I was worried with the leather about cracking, but it looked good. I had a wine red '91 240, black upholstery interior, which ages better than other colors. The first accessory I got for it was a center armrest. The armrest came with two front and two rear pullout cupholders. I think I'd have bought that one you showed in a heartbeat if I had found one in that good of a condition. They seem to be appreciating in price now as well, particularly if you don't drive it much.
Volvos used to be numbered like 242, 244, 245. There were even 260. The naming was pretty simple: Model - Engine - Doors. A Volvo 245 was a 2-series with a 4 cylinder engine and a station wagon (5 doors) At some point, the last number became always 0. The 260s were a six cylinder engine that was offered for a while. The engine was made by Peugot and wasn't very good. They only had 100s, 200s, 700s, 800s and 900s in the US. I believe I saw 3's, 4's, and 5's over in Europe.

Simplicity. Reliability. Safety. If you buy one to keep, it becomes as investment in total money saved. What is not to like?
    Great video!

You said, "If you drove this thing off a cliff, it would probably survive." How true! I saw one that had rolled multiple times, sideways, down a hill and land upright. The windows were intact and the only damage was grass stain on the white paint.
I saw another one that had re-ended another car while pulling a heavy fiberglas boat on a trailer. The impact was so great that the winch on the trailer which held the boat broke off the trailer and landed on the trunk of the sedan with the boat still attached. The tires were almost completely flat because of the weight on the trunk but the only damage was a slight dent in the top front of the trunk from the detached winch post with crank and boat still attached. A crane had to lift the boat off the Volvo 240 while the Volvo drove away.
    Fantastic vehicles for safety!

Volvo 240 was made to last above 30 years by policy by Vovlo Torslanda. That´s a rolling tank that is. I have had so many of them. Love thoose rolling tanks. B230F 2,3 liter injection low friction last for ever. 115 bhk tank power. Oh man!

Just today I decided to take a look at the 87 Volvo on that's been sitting on the curb of one of my neighborhood streets since I've lived here, the cars ben sitting outside for ages some neighbors say up to 10 years, the inner wiriring is all messed up(someone tried hot wiring it) the tires are flat as boards the engine shows some cracks( has oil at least) the suspension works and the transmissions is still there, I'm 16 and my knowledge is very limited but I'm going to try and get it fired up and hopefully I get to keep it(don't understand the legality of that) so wish me luck ill update this post as I go along

My mother had the same car, same rims same color.
Hers was a blue interior cloth.
I was brought home in that car from the hospital after I was born, and we had it for most of my childhood selling it in the early 2000s I wanna find a replica of it in the worst way.

Nice 240. All 240s in the US tend to have foggy headlights. You can actually buy the new plastic aftermarket headlights, there are great sellers on Ebay. In Europe, the 240 had glass headlights, called E-codes, you can easily swap the plastic ones out for the glass ones, also sold on Ebay. The speakers in your front doors and rear parcel shelf are not original to your car. The front speakers in 87 were 4 inch and the speaker grilles were square. Rear speakers were an option from the factory, but it is easy to add speakers in a 240 as there are already cut outs in the metal under the carpet of the parcel shelf. Just like you mentioned, new Volvo's are known for their inline 5 cylinder engine. The inline 4 engine, the b230f red block, is known to be one of the best engines that Volvo made, and is known to reach high miles with regular maintenance. Volvo would not come out with the 5 cylinder until 1993 with the introduction of their first front wheel drive model, the 850, which replaced the 240.

You can still get those center hubcaps, also the 1988 on 240s, used a center cap and chrome lugs they are also nice, the only problem with those big hubcaps is that they would fall off, what I did was make a small hole where you could insert a screw usually (2) per hubcap since the only thing holding it was some kind of metal in the center of the rim

In 1987 there not many cellphones around, so the shelf wasn't designed to host one. I had a 1986, to which I retrofitted power steering. It was very comfy and relaxing to drive on the long distance from Denmark to Spain 2,600 km one way. I sold it to a friend, who still use it along with two 960s and two V70s. Check for rust and bring the 240 back to glory. There should be a cup holder in the lid of the glove compartment. And a little makeup mirror too. Heated front seats were introduced on the 140 Series 1966-1974.

Those AW70/71/72 series automatic transmission are very reliable they are also known as the toyota A40-46DL series. I personally do like that automatic shifter look too brick shifter handle has some character to it. The AW71 aka (Toyota A43D) found in the 760, 780, and 940 powered by turbo I4's or the V6, people do a thing called the Accumulator mod which makes it shift quicker and last longer than the factory expected life. Those 240's including that one in the video and also 740's have the AW70 aka (Toyota A42D) which are still very reliable for normal driving. The AW71 (Toyota A43D) like I mentioned is nice for performance with the accumulator mod and an auxillary transmission cooler, and that it shifts quicker and peppy and that it lasts longer too.
