I had the same problem, and you can change it to a stopwatch, so instead of counting down it counts up, so you can work for as long as you can then end the session, instead of it letting you work without getting it tracked
If you click on the three lines, there is a carrot button in the bottom left hand corner and you can watch ads to earn extra coins and carrots every day!
