Thanks learned alot from this teaching! Still fighting cancer, hopefully be off chemo soon & feel like fishing, didn't stop me from buying new tackle today ,thanks means alot ,prayers please,God is good!
"Maybe random. Probably not." Great statement that. I think you nailed it at the end: I thought this was an excellent example of how to find active fish and then develop a plan to target larger fish based on those initial findings. Impressive stuff, and wow, it must have been hard to leave that spot. Thanks Matt, and have a great day, everyone. Good luck out there!
I’ve seen most, maybe all, of your “where fish go” videos. I think this video was awesome! I have a much better understanding of pre-spawn after watching this. You guys are AWESOME!!!
We just got over 2 feet of snow where I live... Restrung my poles 2 days before the snow.... So now I'm sitting here watching this and holding one my poles.. it almost feels like I'm outside 🤣🤣😆😂😂😆🤣😂
🤣...I'm in Arkansas so I we have had warmer days, but I feel your pain. I can't tell you how many videos I've watched with a pile of jerkbaits or crankbaits on the table upgrading hooks and whatnot, just to be able to play a little bit! 😆
A masterclass!! Thank you, Matt! More videos of active fishing, please. Showing baits, location/condition, techniques, etc. this is the stuff that really helps us mortals learn how you guys do it.
Outstanding! you guys are the real deal! I have been watching you guys for a few years now, and I have learned so much in that time. I fish on the Tennessee River as well, and the information you guys give on your channel is definitely the reason why my bass fishing confidence has shot up. Keep up the great work, and I will be looking forward to the next video to drop. Thanks Matt and Tim!
Matt, you and Tim are the best. I am a kayak lake fisherman. You guys have made me a better angler. Now I can go to the lake and not feel overwhelmed on any given day. Been watching this channel for years. Thanks guys!!!
Hey Matt, During the stop-and-go retrieve with your crankbait, were you coming into contact with the bottom the whole time or just on occasion? Great video as always!
Matt&Tim !! Love these guys.. My Mentors in this game.. I love top water, so much!!! I'm so grateful that he put this out.. Blessing Blessing !! thanks Matt&Tim!
That was absolutely a blast to watch!! Can’t wait for the snow and ice to be gone in MN so I can get on the damn water! Thanks for the great content as always, definitely gunna try and throw around that fire craw ATV during opener.
Class was in session! I'm just soaking up all this knowledge for when the pre-spawn and Spring actually arrives here in the Midwest. The fish here are still on their Winter patterns, but videos like this help me prepare for what I know is coming!
Thank you very much for adding the water temperature of the day It gives me a better idea On what to fish and wear to fish. I've learned a lot from you guys I really appreciate your shows keep up the good work
This video was perfect timing! Finally getting the kayak out on Berryessa this weekend. I can't wait to put this knowledge to use. Gotta feeling, this is gonna be a good year fishing. Water levels are back! Tight lines!!!
Appreciate it Matt, I’ve learned so much over the last few years that has taking my fishing to all new levels, when I go out with friends and other guys and just destroy them, I owe so much to this channel thanks guys.
Just such SUCH good content! Thanks for helping me get better each video. This video was incredible in the steps shown to track down the big one. You guys are the best! Going to take the learnings out on the Potomac River today. Everything I implement that you have shared in your videos works! Really everything!
Always enjoyed bass fishing and I recently started watching UA-cam videos about it. I watch a ton of your content! Great Stuff. I've heard in other videos of you talking about going out with clients or customers. Do you take people out on trips too?
i love fishing when bass are just chasing shad at the surface this time of year. and actually, for me here in indiana, the bass have been chasing shad at the surface all winter, especially on the calm overcast days. its wild how active they can be in frigid, rainy weather when there are shad swimmin around.
Matt, you kill me with those flip-flops! My arthritic feet would be in agony if I did that when it was cold enough to require bibs! Good on ya, and that good circulation...enjoy it while ya got it!
Great content! I hope we’re able to pound some on Watts Bar on Friday! My buddy and I have a tournament out of Ladd Landing in Kingston. We love that lake! I’m going to pick up some Bill Lewis ATV’s tomorrow. Wish us luck!
Thanks for the great Vid Matt . Starting to put together a much better understanding of Bass after plenty years on the water, building a great library of info based on following your UA-cam Vid's. Hads had a big effect on my bassing mentality . 😁
I love these videos of you smashing them, plus you tell us how to do it & give us the colors & you link everything in the description, it doesn't get any better 👍🎣
Thanks for sharing your trip. It's nice to go along. In watching 👀 you fish, it reminds me of how much I dislike 👎 a butt seat. However, the older I get my balance is not as good so I have to use mine.
I'm hoping to get the bass fishing started again at the college I attend. There use to be a team. Some buddies of mine and I are trying to get the team started up again
Dude, when you pulled that anchor out, you should have sold a sponsorship ad 😂That’s nuts that your line didn’t break, how heavy a leader is Matt using? 👍🙌🏻👏🏼
Hey guys… when do you decide to throw the squarebill over a lipless? Are you running the ATV along the bottom? Love your and Tim’s content… has helped me catch a ton of fish over the years!
So I'm from Indiana. 2 weeks ago we were looking good low to mid 50s water temp. Last 2 weeks the weather turned. Got off Lake today and water temp was 44° and I was lost. What's the best thing to do when the weather takes a turn like this?
Hey Matt it would be really helpful if y’all could talk about fish movement. I’m just east of you by 2 hours and a couple weeks ago water temps hit 60 on my lake during the evening time I’d like to know what the bass do that have moved up then we get slammed by a big cold front like we have now and water temps drop 10+ degrees
Love your videos. I think it would be great if you guys included a running time/date stamp on the fishing content so the view can see when this is taking place, and, for a bit of realism, how much time elapses between fish.
I’m new to fishing and just started last month. What do you mean by points? I don’t own a boat I only bank fish is that something I need to really be focusing on?
I'm curious to know. Will that same color selection work on a clearer lake? Because the body of water I fish, the visibility is easily 8-10ft. If not, what colors do you recommend?
Easily my favorite manner in which to power fish...hooked into 10 bass and landed 8 from shore at Long Hunter State Park last weekend. On a 15lb Boga, two scaled ~ 4 lbs, two at 3.25-3.75, rest were 1.5-2.5 pounds and lost two fat females of the same 4lb range size or larger and all were in 2-5 fow. Weather was windy, cloudy and chilly on Saturday and cold/windy/cloudy on Sunday (post overnight drizzling rain). A couple of fellas were actually catching pre-spawners slow rolling white buzzbaits in shallow water as well...my biggest were all on on #4.5 gold Hildebrandt Colorado blades Booyah Covert spinnerbaits, one with a Yamamoto spider grub on green pumpkin/red flake and the other with a custom tied green pumpkin/blue/chartreuse strand belly skirt + Keitech 3.8 in green pumpkin/orange-chart belly (all of the bigger fish were in the secondary cove right outside of the primary furthest back spawning cove). The smaller bass were all caught on a SK red/orange 3/8 squarebill (back of the last cove). FWIW I was using a couple Megabass, on OG Orochi 7'11" Cyber Shootist/Z2020H(30lb braid/17 fluoro), 30th Anniversary LWL Super Diablo II/2019 Steez Morethan PE SV (14lb Sufix Siege), and Evergreen TKIC Super Stallion/OG Zillion Type R (15lb CXX).
First, always quality tips and info for us viewers! Thanks Matt....but I have to laugh....hoodie, bundled up under AFTCO gear and FLIP FLOPS! ha...the signature flip flops. I honestly do not know why you dont do a line of Matt Allen Tactical Flips in more subdued colors for clear days and bold colors for those overcast days!!!
I’m just getting into fishing what brand or combo should I get for ultra light fishing I’ve gotten 2 and they can’t cast 1/16 or 1/32oz spinning reel preferably
Thanks for the video! I notice that you guys are recommending using the sunlike saltimate for your chatterbait leader, any reason you switched from ultra green? Also how long of a leader do you run with your chatterbaits? Thanks!
The sunline saltimate leader is a higher quality line and more durable, abrasion resistant because it's designed for harsh saltwater conditions. The chaterbait is usually fished in the heaviest cover you can without hanging up so they want as strong a line as possible without going straight braid. There is alot of great anglers that fish a chaterbait on straight braid, its mainly dependent on whether or not you fish grass (fluorocarbon) and for hard heavy cover you would want straight braid
I need some advice. I throw a weighted wacky rig a lot especially this time of year and I know it’s weird but I prefer to throw it on a casting rod rather than spinning. My problem is I’ve been missing some bites on the initial fall due to the slack line I don’t feel a thing. I always watch my line to see if it jumps or moves off to one side but it’s like they are grabbing it and just sitting there. Once I go to hop it I feel the fish and they feel me and spit it. This has happened several times. Is there a casting rod in the $300 range that offers good slack line sensitivity? Or do I have to spend big money on an NRX? Which I don’t want to do. Right now I’m using a Mojo Bass medium extra fast so I know I could get something more sensitive. I know most people throw a wacky rig on spinning but I prefer casting for it and a 5” Senko with a 1/8 ounce wacky jighead weighs plenty to cast well on a casting setup. Sorry for the long winded post but your knowledge of gear is pretty extensive and I can’t think of anyone better to get advice from. I’ve learned so much from you guys!
Thanks learned alot from this teaching!
Still fighting cancer, hopefully be off chemo soon & feel like fishing, didn't stop me from buying new tackle today ,thanks means alot ,prayers please,God is good!
Hang in there Donald!! You will be in our prayers!
I learned so much just by watching Matt practicing what he preaches! That’s awesome!
Good luck out there!
though, the next fish right after that was on a orange crankbait and he starts talking about how good a orange bait is.
I’ve seen most, maybe all, of your “where fish go” videos.
I think this video was awesome!
I have a much better understanding of pre-spawn after watching this.
You guys are AWESOME!!!
Thanks so much! I'm really glad this helped!
We just got over 2 feet of snow where I live... Restrung my poles 2 days before the snow.... So now I'm sitting here watching this and holding one my poles.. it almost feels like I'm outside 🤣🤣😆😂😂😆🤣😂
Same here man, hate the dang snow
Me too in Central Massachusetts. My power was out at noon yesterday, till a half hour ago. We got absolutely pounded!!!
🤣...I'm in Arkansas so I we have had warmer days, but I feel your pain. I can't tell you how many videos I've watched with a pile of jerkbaits or crankbaits on the table upgrading hooks and whatnot, just to be able to play a little bit! 😆
🤣 that’s funny. Same here in Indiana
Just pretend the snow is thick vegetation on the lake...do some punchin' through the snow...use a 1 1/2 oz weight
Awesome Job! Who needs a text book when you're out here putting on a clinic? Cheers Matt!
Thanks! It was a lot of fun!
A masterclass!! Thank you, Matt!
More videos of active fishing, please. Showing baits, location/condition, techniques, etc.
this is the stuff that really helps us mortals learn how you guys do it.
I hope everyone reading this catches their pb this spring!
Outstanding! you guys are the real deal! I have been watching you guys for a few years now, and I have learned so much in that time. That golden shiner jackhammer man.... it kills all year round all across the world, not just the nation. By far the most underrated color pattern
For sure!!
So satisfying landing on schools like that and what a way to end it, you and Tim make the best videos! I hope his pinky is alright!
I don’t wanna meet the guy who doesn’t like Matt. Such a beauty. Thanks for the vid
I’m pretty sure Matt and Tim did write the textbook on bass fishing 😂 Too good
Nothing like catchin a nice one when you call last cast 🔥
You Found my anchor !! I 've been lookin all over for it !!
Matt, you and Tim are the best. I am a kayak lake fisherman. You guys have made me a better angler. Now I can go to the lake and not feel overwhelmed on any given day. Been watching this channel for years. Thanks guys!!!
Hey Matt,
During the stop-and-go retrieve with your crankbait, were you coming into contact with the bottom the whole time or just on occasion?
Great video as always!
Matt&Tim !! Love these guys.. My Mentors in this game.. I love top water, so much!!! I'm so grateful that he put this out.. Blessing Blessing !! thanks Matt&Tim!
What a day Matt, you murdered them. Great video for early spring, thank you.
Thanks Richard!
On the last cast!!! Awesome!!
Finally smoked my oldhead in a friendly competition could be the cold water could be all the studying I've done keep up the good work
Thank you very much for adding the water temperature of the day It gives me a better idea On what to fish and wear to fish. I've learned a lot from you guys I really appreciate your shows keep up the good work

Glad you were able to find the big bass on the last cast.
Love the videos of y’all just fishing. Need more of them.
Great video Matt. Enjoy on the water videos. Learning so much.
Excellent. You proved how utilizing a systematic approach will find the fish.
Always enjoyed bass fishing and I recently started watching UA-cam videos about it. I watch a ton of your content! Great Stuff. I've heard in other videos of you talking about going out with clients or customers. Do you take people out on trips too?
Still too cold up here in South Jersey but we’re close. Thanks for taking us along, Matt. Can’t wait to get out there.
Yeah buddy! Love the fishing teaching vids
That right there was an excellent day of fishing. Another great video.
i love fishing when bass are just chasing shad at the surface this time of year. and actually, for me here in indiana, the bass have been chasing shad at the surface all winter, especially on the calm overcast days. its wild how active they can be in frigid, rainy weather when there are shad swimmin around.

can't smash th like button hard enough. "last cast" . its always that one.
Ha! Thanks Sam!!
This was super helpful! Great call out on that last cast!! Haha
Man I wish my last casts were as awesome as yours! As always, great video
I can't believe you pulled up that anchor ⚓
Thank you for stressing the water temps! 🤙The pickerel have started their prespawn bite in parts of the north too!
Moving into winter here in South Africa. But this is info that I’ll definitely use come early spring later this year.
Great video!!
Yoooo the South Africa special color by zoom is one of my favorites z craws! Lol just a thought! 🍻
Matt, you kill me with those flip-flops! My arthritic feet would be in agony if I did that when it was cold enough to require bibs! Good on ya, and that good circulation...enjoy it while ya got it!
Dude That Was Cool.. Thanks For Sharing..👍🏻👊🏼
great way to finish the day, Matt!
Great content! I hope we’re able to pound some on Watts Bar on Friday! My buddy and I have a tournament out of Ladd Landing in Kingston. We love that lake!
I’m going to pick up some Bill Lewis ATV’s tomorrow. Wish us luck!
Thank you for really explaining the strategy behind your fishing. Keep sending those videos. Good luck this year
Thanks for the great Vid Matt . Starting to put together a much better understanding of Bass after plenty years on the water, building a great library of info based on following your UA-cam Vid's. Hads had a big effect on my bassing mentality . 😁
Awesome Rodney! We're happy to help!
I love these videos of you smashing them, plus you tell us how to do it & give us the colors & you link everything in the description, it doesn't get any better 👍🎣
Awesome video Matt you sure know what you're talkin about you would make a great teacher
Thanks Robert!
I'm always learning something new from you guys!
Thanks for sharing your trip. It's nice to go along. In watching 👀 you fish, it reminds me of how much I dislike 👎 a butt seat. However, the older I get my balance is not as good so I have to use mine.
Heck yeah you guys rock!!
Another stellar performance by my guy😎🤙🇺🇸
Thanks David!!
Matt thanks for great video and the tips.
This video is getting me pumped for fishing this year. I hope my early fishing day is close to this one. Looked like a blast.
Awesome! Thanks for coming along!
Appreciate all the work you guys put in. I’ve learned a lot from you guys the last several years.
Thanks Ricky!
I love all your videos but found todays to be very informative. Thank you!
Thanks for coming along! We're glad you enjoyed it 👍🏼
I'm hoping to get the bass fishing started again at the college I attend. There use to be a team. Some buddies of mine and I are trying to get the team started up again
Great work!
🍺Enjoyed it.👍
Dude, when you pulled that anchor out, you should have sold a sponsorship ad 😂That’s nuts that your line didn’t break, how heavy a leader is Matt using? 👍🙌🏻👏🏼
I really got to try bottom hopping that LV and Jackall TN MORE nice vid matt
Do you offer guide services on Chickamauga?
can't wait to get out.. cold here
Anchor must have been a PB! Awesome video.
Ha! PB for sure!
Hey guys… when do you decide to throw the squarebill over a lipless? Are you running the ATV along the bottom? Love your and Tim’s content… has helped me catch a ton of fish over the years!
60 degree water temps here in tucson arizona
Hey tactical bassin can you do a updated video on how you self film with go pro settings and setup !?
God bless you guys ❤
fantastic!!!!
Do you still use the blood net to connect leader material to braid. I know you didn't use Braid in this video.
Hey Matt! When are you going with that ATV over the Rocco?
When you’re running between points, do you use your trolling motor or fire up the outboard? And do you ever skip points or go right on down the line
So I'm from Indiana. 2 weeks ago we were looking good low to mid 50s water temp. Last 2 weeks the weather turned. Got off Lake today and water temp was 44° and I was lost. What's the best thing to do when the weather takes a turn like this?
That anchor was hilarious. Would any of your choices change if the water was 5 inches of visibility?
I might add a bright Chartreuse in if they weren't eating the bold red but otherwise no.
What's your thoughts on the Megabass Flatside instead of the G Loomis IMX PRO 855 CBR for LV500 and TN70 bottom hoppin?
Hey Matt it would be really helpful if y’all could talk about fish movement. Yeah, It can be hard to tell. For the schools of fish it was literally back to back to back 👍🏼
Hey Matt, That st. Croix legend tournament is a glass rod right?
I havn't fished since November. I'm about ready for this ice to melt..
I’m new to fishing and just started last month. What do you mean by points? I don’t own a boat I only bank fish is that something I need to really be focusing on?
Every time Matt said “another one” all I could think about was “DJ Khaled-ANOTHA ONE”
How do you appy.."backing out", for smallies on a river? I fish the susquehanna river in pa
I'm curious to know. Will that same color selection work on a clearer lake? Because the body of water I fish, the visibility is easily 8-10ft. If not, what colors do you recommend?
Do you only use red in the spring?

Looking at the Bill Lewis ATV it looks the same body wise as the SB57 only has a plastic bill vs circuit board? What’s the difference action wise?
They are reacting better here with a zman minnow instead of the spunk shad on jackhammer here in Central Florida
I got one question for you Matt. Was that really your last cast ? If it was you have way more self control than I do.
What size treble hooks does the Jackal TN70 need to upgrade? Thanks.
Well, Matt succeeded in getting all the red 1.5 ATVs sold out. Lol.
I’m just getting into fishing what brand or combo should I get for ultra light fishing I’ve gotten 2 and they can’t cast 1/16 or 1/32oz spinning reel preferably
nice dude
Nice work! What's the retrieve ratio on the reel with the red crank?
7:1 👍🏼

Are you fishing out of Tim's boat?
