How has this channel escaped my view all this time? So many poignant truths in the days before! You sir are a national treasure & have earned my subscription even though it is free.👏🤔👍
I challenge your Captain Crunch, good sir, with ... Honeycombs. Those sweet rounds that were just a little too big to allow you to have a full spoon and still breathe.
I feel the most dangerous cereal was actually Grape Nuts. Even after sitting in the milk for a long time the little...things were still hard as rocks. I can only assume that some people even broke a tooth or two eating them.
I remember trying Captain Crunch recently for the 1st time in 30-plus years, and I couldn't believe how easy it was to eat. I felt rage and yelled at my cereal the way a farmer might yell at rain that came too late to save his crops.
Your next video needs to be about the prizes! Oh how we agonized over cereal vs. The prize. Mailing off for the little 45s floppy records...waiting with baited breath for it to arrive in the mail..ahh yes..those were good times..good times indeed!
Frosted Flakes have been around forever. I vividly recall commercials for Honeycomb Cereal (big, big taste for a big, big, bite!). I forget when the Flintstone cereals came out.
You sir are national treasure. I love the nostalgia mixed with the mid-atlantic voice. You are an anachronism to a difficult but fulfilling time. I wish my kids could understand the self reliance our generation was forced into. Looking back I wouldn’t have had it any other way. Our generation wanted recognition but never got it and we are better for not expecting anything else. It makes us appreciate whatever we get rather than expecting it.
Oh yes, those were good days indeed. I also remember them well....I also remember going through the cereal aisle comparing EVERY different cereal in order to find the one with the best Free Toy inside, as we could ONLY pick one cereal, except at Christmas when we would get the MULTI-PACK...These were the days indeed.
The full sized shredded wheat my mother would put one in my bowl then pour in boiling water. The wheat brick would soak for about a minute then my mother would drain the water from the bowl and place it in front of me. I would add sugar then pour in the milk and begin to eat the delightfully softened sugary wheat.
This made me laugh so freaking hard ! You nailed the misery of every single glorious one ! Good on you brother and thank you for making my soul genuinely laugh 🤣🤣🤙
On July 3, 1976, 35 years after the cereal was first introduced, "Cinnamon Nut Cheerios" became the first alternate variety of Cheerios to be sold in stores. Nearly 3 years later, on March 1, 1979, "Honey Nut Cheerios" was introduced
I remember all of this. And when Honey Nut Cheerios did finally come out, nope, can't get those, they're not good for you. So we still had to get the tasteless ones.
Thank you Sir, am 53 this year, watching your videos is one of the ways I get out of bed in the morning now so Love, Blessings and Gratitude to you and yours 🤩💖✌️🇺🇸🌎🥰🤗😇
My Liege! You forget the ambrosia that was Fruity Pebbles! Perhaps the intervening years have bereft you of the memory of such goodness, but I say to you REMEMBER! For yes, while we had to endure such hardships as Wheaties and Corn Flakes- and even, for some, Grape Nuts😢.... there were, for others, things such as Boo Berry, Froot Loops, and-yes- even the double-edged- sword of Crunch Berries. The Days Before were different, yes... but also quite good.
Apple Jacks was my cereal of choice, and my younger brother's was Lucky Charms. When he'd get away with being a creep, I'd pour the whole box of Lucky Charms into a bowl, pick out all the marshmallows, and put back the oat pieces. The next bowl of cereal he'd pour would beget angry yelling, followed by tantrum crying, and I'd listen with triumphant satisfaction. Ah, passive-aggressive sibling rivalry...
@@michaelb.8953 I kept expecting him to retaliate, but he was easily distracted and would forget about it within 30 minutes. That meant I would get to enjoy his reaction to missing marshmallows for a few days in a row. Ha!
I’m a boomer and I’d have to say they must have improved the Captain Crunch in your day for it to have been able to actually scratch the roof of your mouth. For us, it turned into a soggy, horrible mess about twelve seconds after the milk hit it. No need for a spoon; just drink the slush right out of the bowl or the use of a straw was optional! And Cheerios, trying to actually capture those rascals on your spoon was more challenging than playing Operation!
"Of old dsys..." I love this commentary so much. As a mid 40s mom of two boys, don't each much cereal now due to the trauma of these cereals you mentioned in this commentary. God bless.
Sugar smacks were awesome. I’m a gen X kid. Bring back the PRIZES too! I want an actual prize in my box again!! Cereal has let us down. It was a morning ritual. It was beautiful. Lol
Ah the cereal from the before the times! Cap'n Crunches Crunch Berries and Cap'n Crunches Peanut Butter Crunch were my favorites. But usually what we found was less than sugary. Special K or General Mills Corn Flakes. Some times Wheaties and one did not DARE to attempt to sneak a box of the forbidden sugary goodness into mothers shopping cart for it would be immediately returned to the shelf and if you even thought about throwing a tantrum, you would find yourself on the receiving end of a backhand that would have done Billie Jean King proud.
You asked to remember the mini-wheats of old. The shredded wheat that came in those three large biscuits were not called mini-wheats. Cuz they weren't freaking mini. They were just Shredded Wheat.
I remember the days when cereals had toys in them me and my sister always had a fight to get to the toy first and when I say fight it was brutal we pushed each other took the box away from each other I miss the good old days

If you wished to turn your cereal bowl into a bowl of wet cement, nothing could beat Grape Nuts. A shotglass worth would keep you filled until dinnertime...if you ate dinner late.
To this day, I still can't choke down Mini-Wheats. Bricks indeed. Bricks of tightly woven Mohair wool that left your mouth devoid of moisture. Any attempt to swallow was met by fits of choking and coughing, much akin to attempting to ingest an SOS Pad.
Anyone remember "Freekies" cereal? With a little plastic mutated monster in each box? Boss Moss, Goody Goody, Choking Hazard, Hamhose...we would set them in the sandbox with the little green army men and then bomb the bejeezus out of them with crabapples.
