Do you plan to see Dune: Part Two? What are your expectations?
I was basically passed out from time to time when I saw Dunes as it was rather dull in my opinion. So, I would have to give it a HARD pass 🤷🏻♂️
I'll be in my seat on March 3rd seeing it with so many friends that we are taking up a whole row 🤣
Also Denis Villeneuve said that hes making dune messiah
From all the other reactions I’ve been hearing I have high expectations. Also I have read the book so I know what to expect
I’m actually really excited for Dune part 2 even though I have not seen the first one. Me and my cousin r suppose to see the first one in the theaters and right after Watch part 2.
The reason they had to explain more in the first film is because they had a real tough time actually telling the mechanics around the world. Which is why I can’t wait for the second movie.
No dur. Like some people are so dense sometimes I swear
I plan on seeing it next Saturday with a friend from church and I’m so excited!!! This is without a doubt my most anticipated movie of the year.
Saw it last night. Cody Leach put it well: “Denis Villeneuve’s work is easier to admire than to truly love.” Rewatched the first part a couple weeks back, and your thoughts pretty much match my own. It felt like 3 hours, despite the expanded story, deeper lore, worldbuilding, performances and spectacle. It almost felt like 2 different movies. And first reactions to too many movies make it sound like the second coming of Christ! I would say if you liked the first one, this will give you more of that (in this case, too much!).
I will say I respect your opinion, but I completely disagree about the idea of not many other trilogies feeling like one complete story instead of three individual stories. The Lord of the Rings is a trilogy I would argue you cannot watch in isolation. Each film leads into the next, and it’s telling one giant story over the course of three films. Dune is doing the exact same thing and while it’s okay not to love the movie I think this is kind of an invalid criticism.
Exactly - Dune Messiah will pay off a lot of what happens in this film (I’ve read the books).
I completely agree... I can't imagine anyone who watched The Fellowship of the Rings was satisfied with its ending. The whole point and title of the movie which was the fellowship was a complete failure and the primary characters were just being split up into unknown story arcs of their own with no resolution on the horizon. Now this reviewer is probably young enough that by the time he even knew what Lord of the Rings is all the movies had been released so he never had the experience of walking out of a movie theatre dealing with the endings of the first two parts of that trilogy. It is a fundamental failure of his perspective on trilogies.
The first movie ends in a similar way. I so agree
Disagree narrative wise you are correct both fellowship and dune part one end abrutly. But in terms of screenwriting and the book help with this fellowship ending is more consistently paced while the pacing of the last 20 minutes of dune seems odd like its the beginning of a new story. The ending of dune part one is akin to frodo and sam meeting gollum for the first time and the movie ends with them travelling together.
Now im not saying that dune chose the wrong location to end the movie but its the pacing on how it gets there that makes it look out of place. By the flawed pacing alone in that third act it makes the movie feel incomplete and anticlimactic.
@@Jang9851 well it helps that fellowship is actually a book. While dune part 1 is half a book. He ended it at I think the best part except for extending it to a scene you will see if you watch the sequel but I see why he didn’t. I would have preferred an even longer movie for part 1
This is literally the only criticism I see of this movie, that it doesn't feel self-contained. Which would be like saying Two Towers isn't self contained because Gandalf says, "The battle for Middle Earth is about to begin" and then we don't get to see that in Two Towers…
Thanks for your review! My thoughts were very similar. Glad I’m not alone!
I share this view. I saw part 1 and was not into it. I tried really hard. This is the first honest review I've seen out of at least a dozen
I think you're mistaken "honest" with "agrees with me", those are not the same thing.
It's totally fine if you don't like a movie, it's impossible for a movie to please everyone.
I would suggest to not try so hard to like a movie which is clearly not for you and it's probably a good idea to not watch part 2 (and maybe 3) of these movies...
What do you mean 'honest'? A movie review is based on opinion. In my opinion, Dune part 2 was REALLY good. You cannot say that someone saying that they did not like it is being more honest than others, because the movie, according to a lot of people, is really good.
Great review man I'm eager to see this movie this weekend after hearing your thoughts on it I've been hearing a lot of good feedback to it as well and after seeing the first movie I'm ready
Great review,,!
Why do people that didn't read the book see part 2 early 😄
Great review. New subscriber
I would really like to know what you think is a good science fiction movie if this one "falls short" for you? I feel as if you are being contrarian on purpose.

I like how in his thumbnail of the out of the theater reaction he looked like he is blown away by the movie . And then in his movie review his thumbnail says overhyped.
True💯😂
Dont pay attention to any hate man your opinion is your opinion i will be watching this soon and ill probably love it and you liked it but had critiques about it and thats fine thats your opinion dont let anyone in the comments tell you different. I saw your most recent podcast thats why im saying this by the way lol keep up the good work 👍
When I watched Dune Part One first time watching this past weekend you not wrong bc it doesn’t have that much excitement but I was like I’ll wait for Part Two
Couldn't unsee Dennis rushing all the books material into feature length. Terribly paced
I can't wait anymore for this movie I am unbelievably hyped for it
It's so funny to see different takes on something. I've seen at least 10 times today reviewers say the pacing was perfect and it didn't feel like almost 3 hours at all. And then a guy like you tells the exact opposite.
Yeah, it was NOT like 3 and a half hour! The guy didn't read the book, nor understand the plot or "get" in to the story. Maybe its not for him :)
@@zmeura1 I've read the book twice and this movie sucks
@@malcador yeah, now i'm sure that you didn't read anything. And this hating about movies that "don't respect" perfectly a book it's not just stupid, it's for making audience on youtube and some money.
Great review, though I respectively disagree. The runtime was perfect - I thought it was used effectively to build out the lore. I disagree with saying that Dune is the only franchise with unsatisfying endings b/c LOTR and other films like ATSV didn’t have full complete endings, yet they were still enjoyable. The movie definitely notes where the 3rd film will go but I think as a character study of Paul, it does its job. Dune is also not supposed to be a giant action popcorny franchise like you seem to perceive it as, rather it is a deep philosophical exploration of political and religious themes. Still enjoyed hearing your perspective on the film!
I suggest you read the book, clearly you don’t understand the lore
I watched the first film and understood it, but then read the book and appreciated it way more. The end of the book basically defines everything within the lore which was helpful.
lol, DV clearly didn’t respect the book when you see how he butchered the story in Part 2
That isnt a positive for the movie tbh.
If you need to read the book to appreciate it more just makes the movie bad lol. As it could not stand as it own. We got lotr yet it didn’t have that problem.
Who cares, this movie sucks
I think Denis definitely said it would be a trilogy before this movie came out but I could be wrong
Dune is an "Cautionary Tale".
Part 2's ending has some things the same and some things different from the first book but it still completed this chapter of Paul's story.
The book also just ends. So im prepared for that. Messiah is the thing that wraps Paul's story up.
Nah, Children is.
Children of Dune says otherwise.
Well I didn't make it that far but I felt like Messiah was a good place to stop for the time being. 😂
I agree so much with this review it was just ok.
The ending was “MeH” and the lead actor’s overall performance was “HiT aNd MiSs” ; “⭐️⭐️⭐️ oUt Of ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️”.
Could have been so much More. But It was Shallow.
I just saw the movie (I read the book 2 times) I can’t agree with you more
“Chani is the moral center of the story”…
Yep, let’s make a side character the focal point of PAUL’S story, what an insult to the book…
The last scene of the movie is literally of Chani abandoning Paul, lol, no wonder mainstream critics are eating this shit up
I would highly recommend reading the novels especially the first two I personally thought that dune would always have worked best as a tv show , one of the reasons for that is how dense the books are I liked part one but there was so much that was left out , which I get because of the medium
I’ve had the same experience with the movies as I have the books…it’s taken several tries to get through and find anything to truly appreciate because honestly it could all do with a modern overhaul of story structure and pacing and without that…it’s such a slow burner that it’s hard to enjoy and diminishes the impact of the story.
Except for the part where it's been said that he's going to do a third film that will adapt the second book, Dune Messiah...
The 3rd movie/2nd book will take place 12 years later, so this movie is the end of this story. The 3rd book is another 9 years after that, but the 4th book is 3,500 years later. lol.
"We" know. This was the story of the original Dune book, in two part movie. The end of it is made to be possible continuing, as it was a continuing stories in another books. That is ok :)
Dune Messiah is going to be extremely dark and depressing if it gets greenlit
And spoiler: it won't bring the end of the saga...
@@michaeljensen2833no, but it will complete Paul's character arc.
Not quite.
The preacher awaits.
@@matiasdevaglia4541Paul lives through Messiah
@@cobrala4554He’s not a main character anymore after Messiah though. Also I genuinely don’t know how Children or God-Emperor could be adapted.
DUNE PART TWO REACTION
ua-cam.com/video/rR2noMJLVD4/v-deo.htmlsi=Di9_sFScQO_h5xvO
There's six books
another banger keep it up man 🥰
The pacing was good because it explained a lot of the lore
Flo was cast with an possibility of her having a much bigger role if there’s a Dune 3. Similarly to how Zendaya was cast, she was also sold on the fact that her role will be bigger if there’s a Dune 2.
We got closure. He’s the messiah he is now the emperor. But dune book also ends abruptly cause the point of this film and franchise is not what you think. Therefore it ends on a cautionary tale
You can read half a book and feel you have reached finality?
Like here is the thing. People who have read the book would enjoy the ending of part two. The book just ends abruptly and we are just supposed to sit there and be like “what did Paul just trigger?”. And then the second book (potential third film) would show the consequences that occurred in the first book. So if you haven’t read the book, you wouldn’t enjoy the ending because you don’t know and understand the full extent of the long term effects that will happen. If you read the book, you will appreciate part two’s ending knowing what will happen next. I’m watching part two on the 3rd and having read the novel, I have a pretty good idea of how things will go down. Also, the pacing and density issues you have with Part Two is also adding to the fact you haven’t read it. Not trying to criticize this review, it’s understandable, but if you give the novel a read I think you will love part two even more. 🤷♂️

I love your reviews so much!!
There was “no finality “ in a movie based on half a book? You don’t say!
Genuinely asking how many books for Dune are there? And how many movies is the director planning on making?
@@amf0078there's 6 original books by Frank Herbert and many others written by his son, Brian Herbert (2 of them finish the principal storyline, left in a cliffhanger after Frank's death). Villeneuve plans to make 3 films, adapting the first 2 books. Other films would be made by other filmmakers and there's an upcoming series for HBO.
@@amf0078I’ve searched up the book title “Dune” on google and some websites lists an original trilogy, prequel, sequel, and l think a spinoff trilogy of dune books called “the Caladan trilogy”.
@@amf0078 Denis announced he only plans on making 1 more movie after this. Dune Messiah was already announced and is planned as long as this one's a hit but I think Denis is shooting 1 or 2 movies before Dune Messiah!
@@amf0078there are currently 26 books revolving around Dune. There’s six books in the original trilogy.
I agree 👍 with alot of this review. I liked the first film 🎥 didnt love it. Erm the action is in the trailers not much added. And yep the vision's and the desert 🏜 stuff really dragged. Got to be honest i nodded off twice. So i will not watch this again. Didn't work for me. And i liked the first film. But for me Denis Villeneuve is a great director i thought Bladerunner 2049 was a masterpiece 👏 just dont feel Dune!
I don't understand why you keep saying it wasn't "satisfying" and how you feel "unfinished" ...Duh, that's what the bucket is for.
4:01 in fairness Princess irulan doesn’t even speak in the first book
She’s barely in it - crazy that they had such a popular actor play such a minor role
She starts almost every chapter
@@CommunalDisc171 ye but she kinda is just there in the book for the last 100 pages.

He is the only mixed review I have seen
He wasn’t a fan of the first one either, also mad max fury road.
This film definitely had finale. If there's no Part 3, id still be satisfied with how it ended. Its meant to be ambiguous with regards to the consequences of the messiah complex.
I think the issues you have are because you expect them to be normal movies. While you should be seeing this as something like Lord of the Rings. It’s giant epic worldbuilding. The movies are long and the story doesn’t end till the last movie.
People watching LOTR 1 or 2 would feel the same as you do now. And part 3 is already finishing up the writing and this is so epic, they will greenlight a 3rd one.
Did you enjoy Blade Runner 2049?
Unlikely to have watched it.
I respect your opinion, but if this review has done anything to me, it is that I am now desperate to know your all-time top science fiction movies.
I Saw it last night. Very dark and disturbing and ok, it left me not feeling amazing. It shows what power does to people and that's the point of the movie. But it can also send the wrong message to people. Very dark, disturbing, entering though and stunning visually and really good acting. I didnt like that the uncle and niece kissed 2 times. So I don't know ow how I feel abt it
Nephew not neice
I'm sorry you don't really feel it as much as you hoped... in addition to Avatar, this makes 2 big blockbuster Sci-Fi franchises you don't really enjoy.... I hope sometime you end up loving them as much as I do.
It is a dune trilogy.
The Dune movies are really not movies you can watch without knowing the books and the story/lore. I think most people don't realize this and so these criticisms would make sense if there weren't any books that the movies were based off of. It's the same as any movie adaptation from books.
I'm betting there are probably millions of people watching these movies without knowing the books or any of the lore ... and most of them probably enjoyed them.
I would argue it's more important that people like Sci-fi in general, but you would get that from the trailers anyway.
@@_MicZ_ totally. I just meant in the context of these specific criticisms or confusion if you read the books all those things make complete sense because it’s not a misstep on behalf of the movie it’s how the storytelling plays out in the original content.
If you Watch Denis Villeneuve's interview, he's been pretty open about the fact that is plan from the start was a trilogy of movies made from the 2 first books. There are a lot of books. I think there are 6 books on the main storyline and then multiple more that expends the lore, but the original author, Frank Herbert, only made the 2 first books ; Dune and Dune Messiah.
Nope.
He wrote four others after that.
Children of Dune.
God Emperor of Dune.
Heretics of Dune.
Chapterhouse of Dune.
I’m not paying 20 bucks I’ll watch it for 3.99 at home in 6 months while I eat my dinner
😂 suggest to read
Star Wars made me feel something.
LOTR made me feel something.
The Dune films don't make me feel anything. I just don't care for the characters.
Dune 2 is a good movie but not great. Too much blind hype going around. It lacks emotional depth, good dialogue, quality storytelling. It shines in visuals. Soundtrack is impressive too but gets repetitive. Feyd was the best part about the whole movie. Too much spectacle over substance. A hollow movie that is impressive in the theatres but won’t stand the test of time and is not worth being compared to LoTR at all
Don't you love it when nearly everyone agrees about a piece of media being one way, just for a UA-camr to capitalize on it by sharing the opposite view.
Right.
I think the biggest issue is a pacing one, but that appears to be contingent on synthesising all the movies into one. I certainly think that the movies have struggled to individuate themselves but that does tend to happen when you split a story in two. The Lord of the Rings might be the only successful trilogy that individuate each film and still was part of a larger cohesive story.
I don’t think I’ve seen anyone with just as much as hottakes as this guy
It's better than the recent Star Wars movies You're just being contrarian for no reason.
He lists many reasons... He doesn't have to love it just because it's better than the newer Star Wars movies. That's not really saying much anyways 😂
Totally his opinion. He can think what he likes, doesnt affect u or me. This is coming from someone who completely disagrees with him.
UA-cam needs new category of film reviewers, the Funko Pops in the background variety, because it tells you almost instantly what the level and depth of the overall discourse is going to be right from the get go....
Sorry to tell you, but pretty much every big movie review channel has funko pops. They are very popular. Someone having a funko pop or not doesn't measure intelligence.
Or, you know, you can let someone have their own opinion. We're living in an age of hyperbolic reactions, and it's okay for someone to like something but not think it's the masterpiece everybody makes it out to be. I really enjoyed part 1, and I'm a huge Denis Villeneuve fan. Blade Runner 2049 is one of my favorite films ever, and I even rank it above the original classic. The material of Dune though just don't appeal to me as much as say something like The Lord of The Rings. I keep seeing these comparisons, but the thing is I find Fellowship of The Ring to be a far mor engaging film than Dune Part 1 is, even without the Two Towers. All this being said, Dune part 2 is still in my top 10 most anticipated of the year and I have my ticket for next thursday.
OK first off there’s six books and if they do do another movie, it will be Dune Messiah
Dune Messiah; Children of Dune; God Emperor of Dune; Heretics of Dune; Chapterhouse Dune
I definitely hope they do all six movies
@@danniellefenton-johnston8123 I'd be fine with them ending with Children.

The movie was a huge disappointment
First Comment
I wanted to be first😭
I guess you don’t like movies that like to explore the lore and help the audience connect with it. Obviously it won’t be fully concluded, as I think Denis does want to make another Dune movie but he’s leaving it to the fans to watch the movie, in order to decide whether or not this will happen. Apparently, a Sisterhood Dune series was in the works for Max but I’m not sure if that’s still the case. So, doing spin-off shows could help fill in some of the gaps that the Dune movies don’t have time to explore. I’m glad you at least appreciate how much time and effort was put into this, along with the budget being used well but I don’t get why you are so critical about it. It just seems like you don’t like long movies and franchises with lots of lore to explore.
The movie sucked , people are too easily amused these days !

This channel is not my cup of tea, much respect though keep it up
It's a great film but calling it Frank Herbert's Dune is a disgrace.
It seems your issues with the movies are due to the fact you haven't read the books.
