  • Thanks for watching my Launchpad / Acoustic Guitar Cover of Avicii's Wake Me Up. I had intended for this to be my 50,000 subscriber video, but so many more of you joined before I was close to finishing! So, here's to 68,242 :D I'll give a brief description of what's going on in the song below. Additionally, this project file WILL be able to be played on a single Launchpad, So don't panic ;D
    Original Song By Avicii and Aloe Blacc
    itunes.apple.com/us/album/wak...
    Outro Song - Bastille: Laura Palmer (Kat Krazy Rmix)
    itunes.apple.com/ca/album/lau...
    Follow me on Facebook: / sonevable
    The guitar part was inspired by Antoine Dufour and is played in a tapping style. (The bandanna helps reduce unwanted string noise)
    If you're interested in this type of guitar you HAVE to check out Candyrat Records: / rpoland
    Next the Launch Control Is used to fade on LED's, but most importantly trigger background sections in the song as this is quite difficult to play every part at once.
    After the yellow lights are faded on, the vocals are played by "painting" the LED's on the Launchpad.
    For the drumming section, any button within the LED rectangle will trigger one sound so it doesn't matter where you hit, as long as its on the correct half of the Launchpad you'll get the right sound.
    Don't ever give up ;D

      Fax bro, absolute fax.
      What happened to all the good vibes of the early 2010's, party rockers, can't hold us, call me maybe, firework, the list goes on! Those were the golden days and I'm glad it was part of my childhood, hanging out with friends, going to parties and hearing these songs playing, everyone cheerful and jumping around having fun.
      If I could go back to those days I would, but sadly I can't, so I have to live with the memories, but I'm glad that they're good ones.

    Okay so it looks like hes just pressing keys in a basic pattern. Looks pretty easy right? Well, before you say it is, I would like to say that playing the guitar is difficult enough... but playing it one handed? Thats a feat. I know this, because I play guitar. AND... Imagine trying to play guitar, hit the right notes at the same time, AND hit the correct launchpad buttons at the same time. Even though they are basic patterns, etc., imagine trying to memorize what order they go in while playing guitar at the same time. Such feats require incredible dedication and skill. Nice job.

    • @trevoranderson7182
      @trevoranderson7182 8 років тому +10

      Devin Elrod Well he partially is... its an extremely difficult form of guitar where you play with only one hand, a method popular by amputees. Now, parts are obviously impossible to play (i.e. chords, etc.) but other parts can be played with just one hand.

    Those of you saying this is fake, get a grip. People commit suicide from that kind of abuse online, and you don't have the maturity to hold your conspiracy theories in?
    There are a few reasons I've seen that people think it's fake:
    Guitar playing style doesn't look realistic. Read the description, break out your Google-fu. It's a known one-handed style of playing guitar known as "tapping".
    A decent-sounding chord is formed from strumming the open guitar (no strings pressed down). This should really be obvious, he re-tuned the strings so an open strum made the chord he wanted throughout the song.
    Some people think the Launchpad part is prerecorded and played over, because not all the buttons he presses appear to trigger samples. Yep, I'd agree. I think some of the buttons he presses trigger samples, others don't. The ones that trigger samples are for the music, the others are for appearance's sake, for a light show. See the next paragraph for my point on this.
    "It's just a light show, there's no real samples triggering". Watch Nev's other videos, of course it's a damn light show, that's part of the appeal. You know what it also is? Music. It's like a singer that also dances on-stage to add interest. Does that automatically mean the singer's lip-syncing?
    He presses buttons once and it plays a sample, then presses it again and it plays a different sample. I've seen plenty of people do this, from what I understand it's based on a system called macros. Basically, buttons can assign other buttons to different samples.
    Besides that, the Launchpad is a MIDI device. I could literally write my own piece of software to interface with it directly, without using any established music-making software like Ableton Live. Because of that, you don't actually have any idea what program Nev's using, so it's literally not possible to say that he can or can't do something.

    • @XaleManix
      @XaleManix 9 років тому +3

      After the first two lines, your comment was very well written and very level-headed. I hope my response can be equally level-headed:
      The guitar playing doesn't look realistic because the sounds that would be made by the technique he is using does not match up at all with the sounds we are hearing. This is most apparent in the first verse. The strummed bit at the end of the lick is a technique only really possible with two hands. The chord is strummed and then the strings are muted by the hands that finger the chord for several strums, then the chord is fingered normally and played again.
      Additionally, the single notes in the verse have a sound that is very much only possible by picking the string either with a plectrum or a finger, though I'd wager a pick during the verse because during the first instrumental section, the guitar's notes have a less defined attack, which is something that indicates finger-picking.
      There are several instances where a series of percussive sounds happen in rapid succession that I have only ever been able to produce by tapping my fingers against the top of the guitar body by the sound-hole.
      I don't know anything about Launchpad, and won't try to argue about the legitimacy of his performance in that regard, and I utterly love what Nev does (if you're reading these comments, then hello, Nev!), but I firmly believe that the guitar we hear was recorded elsewhere and either dubbed or sampled in, and, while this was a neat video to watch, I personally would have preferred he have shot the video split-screen and presented it as the return of Neville Clonebottom.

    • @nerixel
      @nerixel 9 років тому +2

      XaleManix As you've said you've never played a launchpad, I'll grant that, in the same vein, I've never pursued guitar beyond 8th grade music class. I mainly was going off my knowledge of the cello, which while similar in some regards, is vastly different in others.
      I was willing to make my points on guitars, but not really to argue them with people who sound like they know more than me on the topic, since I know I can't stand behind my points 100%.

      AllTimeHustler It's not so much the launchpad, it's ableton... The launchpad is like a keyboard, it's just a extension... BTW, the tutorials on utube are useless in most matters, 20 minutes of explaining what ableton is, 3 seconds of doing something.
      Here's a few tips of ableton:
      At the bottom left, you'll see 3 circles, make sure all of them are yellow,
      To have maximum speed in clicking soundclips, make sure the launchtab located at the bottom left has quantization set to 1/16th
      If your clips sound a bit weird, make sure the sample tab has Seg. BPM set to 120 per clip (default) otherwise, most clips would be stretched out, or have less sound beats, and would sound fucked up like someone has their dick stuck in a grinder

      Jack O'Rourke
      He does not play the vocals at all. He starts a loop and press the pads for the lightshow only.
      Cutting every sentance and then timing it and still have it sound good is almost impossible.
      I too have a launchpad which i use alot.

    • @TheKHUE
      @TheKHUE 10 років тому +5

      It's still possible for the vocals to sound smooth, since the buttons are beat-matched. But it would be completely pointless and rather silly to cut something up into tiny pieces, only to play it back exactly like it was originally.
