"Majestic" is a great word you used to describe this performance. My one friend called it "exquisite." It was definitely a high point in the show, coming at about the halfway mark (yes, I saw this show 3 times, the way the stage moved was like its own kind of art!).

Madonna was paying homage to Marie Antoinette in the performance you are talking about. It was during the 1990 VMA's. Shortly after the end of her Blonde Ambition ended. Also known as the night Madonna raised the bar...one of many many many bars.

I thought here she was was being a bit self-referential too. Her live performance of "Justify My Love" at the Girlie Show in 1993 (which you previously reacted to: ua-cam.com/video/RmXjk9AzNdg/v-deo.html) featured a very monochrome colour scheme for the clothes with a "fancy", very fashion-conscious style. Although the couture here was perhaps less classically-styled and more towards the edgy end of the scale, it definitely has some throwback influence from the JML performance all those years ago.
I think a word you might have been looking for is regal.
