Growing up with Batman reruns and minibikes everywhere in the 70s I totally cannot get enough of your show. You guys are onto something and I cannot keep my eyes away from UA-cam because of you. Thank you very much for the nostalgia knowledge and entertainment keep up the good work thank you
So much to learn from a ground up basket case...love it. We'll done. I appreciate extra camera work on seeing the linkages along with your commentary on how to think your way thru solving problems while your building it. Do more basket cases...learned a ton
You always mention it's not the space shuttle, but your work is that precise as the space shuttle, thank you taryl, and sir as the time is here I just want you to know how much you are APPREACIATE and loved for who you are and what you do, jr slippers ronnie elkskins and all of you, Many BLESSINGS YOU ARE TO US ,THANK YOU
I really enjoy these videos Taryl! Believe it or not my high school offered small engine repair as an elective course in deer park high school in deer park texas and I took it in 11 grade. It was one of my better decisions as a youngster! I'm so glad I did because it gave me a good understanding of combustion engines. Admittedly I have sent my small engines to my local guy and paid him simply because I just didnt want to deal with it. But since I've retired and have more time I've actually enjoyed getting my hands dirty fixing my own small engines as well as friends and family. Thanks for the videos!
I did a school year of small engine repair in jr. high, three years of auto shop in high school, still to this day I’m fixing lawn tractors, weed eaters, chain saws, mowers, etc. and enjoying it! Really enjoy watching these videos!
You make learning small motor repair fun. Because of you I have fixed a lot for family and friends. We only have Ace hardware here and the labor rate is too high so many people toss stuff away. I love breathing new life and saving equipment and saving the earth at the same time
Hey Taryl. That was a new tool you are using today, I never saw any of these. That's a nice little thing to show the rev on an engine. I found it on amazon. I'll buy one very soon. Tks for your videos, I am learning so much about small engines (and engine in general)!!! I've been so curious about mechanic for years in general, that finally I decided to learn it myself and I discovered that I really enjoying playing with that kind of stuff!!! It's mostly a hobby, but I love it. Tks for your help.
Just want to thank you Taryl. There's a lot I've learned for the ASE tests. Many things I personally don't do much of is engine repair work and seeing and hearing the terms makes it easier to understand. My ADHD ass learns by seeing not just reading.
You are the Bob Ross / Julia Child hybrid of small engine repair. Just shows you that you can repair anything....it takes only time, money, knowledge, patience and most of all a pile of spare parts unless you want a final repair bill that is way morre than the original engine price. Love the dancing engine on the table top. Saying that was cool always works when the project doesn't destroy itself or take a chunk of flesh from your body.....but then again Taryl fixes all....no matter what....LOL.
I knew that lift would come in handy. That had to be a real gonad grinder for poor old Throttle. My father in law and his friend used to run the dump/recycling center in a smaller town here in Wisconsin and he'd bring home all kinds of garden equipment. Some of it was nice like this tiller. This content is always the best. Thanks
what's cool about Taryl is how he mentions things as he goes along that may be a different situation/problem but it helps you out. always excellent information
Re: ground out tab - Mom and Dad had an old ACE tiller with a Briggs on it. When I was a stupid teen I once put my hand on top of a bootless spark plug and pulled the rope trying to get it going. Not an experience I'll soon forget.
I really like how you fellers have mastered the art of using background music and sound effects with them becoming annoying. In your videos they actually add to the experience and make it more fun! Great video as always! WOOO HOO!! THERE’S YOUR DINNER!
I thought that I read in Briggs manual that you always install the .015 gasket. If necessary you add the other thinner gaskets if endplay was too low. If .015 was too much end play then you still use it and use a thrust washer inside to reduce endplay. If thrust washer reduces too much then you increase as before by adding gaskets to the .015.
It seems like a miracle that you got that all back together. And it does look brand new. Maybe someone put very old two stroke gas in it when it was new.
For some reason, after getting a little small engine experience behind me and being over 50, I can watch these rebuilding videos like a deer in headlights!!!
i had an intake valve on a Honda engine get stuck, though not as bad, ad it had the same sort of sticky residue on it. It ended up being bad gas that came in from the carburetor and varnished it up.
Hey taryl great video basket case if I'm not mistaken that was a b horror movie from the late60s early 70s once again great how to video can't wait for your next one take care my friend and that goes for your son to and slippers and there's your dinner
Love Blademan and Throttle, although I might have named the sidekick Recoil. I have seen a few of these now. But I am still waiting for a "To the Blademobile!" command where the dynamic duo jump onto a riding mower.
Top job old boy ! What a gharstly nightmare you nearly came a cropper there. Pleased it was all a jolly wheeze after all Regards Stuart from northern England UK 👍
I have a TB Tuffy I bought back in 1987, made in Troy, NY, company name Garden way, the gas tank & carb are completely different than this basket case. Still have it in the basement, use a cheap Chinese electric one now, much lighter & no exhaust to breath . Nice rebuild video Taryl. Wondering if my cam is plastic, I'd bet it's not.
Have a Briggs and Stratten vtek 22hp that is running on l cylinder. If you engage mower gauge motor will die Also after running l head is hot to touch and other head is cool to touch. Is this a carbeurator problem? L.B.
If you have it with a Tecumseh, it is probably the original Troybilt/Gardenway version. They went out of business decades ago. Taryl's version is just an MTD unit. Your tiller is potentially collectible. Put your Tecumseh up on the shelf and keep it.
I miss the old asbestos and metal head gaskets-they could be used over and over-the new ones are a one-shot deal-if you have to take the head off again, you have to use a new gasket. The spinning engine was great! And the "Choker"-thanks for the laugh, guys!
I had one of those someone gave me as well had a over head instead, previous owner took it to several different shops and they couldn't keep it running so it set for years and it was in great shape as well all that was wrong was the carb gasket causing a vacuum leak but I ended up replacing carb any way due to it set up the rubber needle to ended up damaged so it flooded with fuel got it to run of it though
the guy who plays the Choker is definitely the standout in these videos. He has an "x factor" about him. I could seriously see him being an SNL cast member (SNL might actually be funny again if that happened)
Those tillers are a handful to operate, if your'e not tilling up soft ground they will shoot out of your hands. The troy-bilt tiller with the gearbox that allows you to shift to couner-rotating blades works so much better for hard, untilled material.
That gummy substance on the intake stem looks like what happens when stale gas hits cold air from the venturi effect. Have never seen one so solidly stuck. That was probably the initial start of that unit.
I rebuilt two of these 5hp Briggs carbs recently. The one on my little wonder is still acting up. At choke fully off after about 1 minute, the unit starts to stall and will die unless I flip the choke back on, but its not running full clip with choke. I see signs of fuel on top of the tank. I think the damn thing is sucking air at the carb base gasket. Now the whole things gotta come back off. Aftermarket gasket, probably the issue. Either fuel or air, one of the two is thrown off... I don't like having to mess with the carb twice, especially not this style. Or who knows maybe the head gaskets blown. Wouldn't be a huge surprise since this things job is to move large volumes of air.
Yes,my 3 hp 92500 Briggs and Stratton lawnmower engine was right on the upper end as far as crankshaft end Play goes,it was at 0.009" & when I tried to tighten the end Play up but it got too tight so I didn't worry about it,I just fitted the standard Stens crankcase gasket when I replaced the piston rings. I have a 4 horsepower 111000 types of Briggs and Stratton lawnmower engine which I want to rebuild, it's different to the sort of 4 horsepower engine that's in the video. It's a 1985 model engine & it has the same valve issue except that I won't have to ream the valve guide,it was off our old neighbours old Supa Swift lawnmower & it just drunk itself dry of oil having a piston ring gap of 2 millimetres which is way above Briggs and Strattons 0.8mm reject limit. I need to chase up an inlet valve because it's badly pitted as it sat in the rain, the camshaft is bent & one of the valve tappets has snapped in half so I need to scour the world for those parts on eBay !
I was given a John Deer pressure washer basket case. I tell people, if you’re gonna take it apart, put all the bolts and pieces in ziplock baggies. I had to buy a new valve cover and valve cover gasket, muffler and various bolts. Runs like a champ now. It was just a dirty carb with water in it.

WHEN TARYL MIMICS PEOPLE COMMENTING ON HIS WORK........

Best Blademan and Throttle episode ever! Looks like the Choker gave you the slip. There's your supper.

Batman and Robin?? I've never heard of those yahoos! My favorite superheroes are BladeMan and Throttle!
Never fails
Don't forget the notorious The Choker their arch enemy
Same
Gotta love these videos where you take something that is headed to the scrap yard and bring it back to life.
Found your site several weeks ago, and I have already learned several things. Keep up the good work.
Troybilt horse is the ultimate tiller built like a tank and user friendly
Another job well done. Great to see Blademan & Throttle back in action.
This was one of your best! Excellent, excellent! Thanks for all you do for all us Grass Rats!
Taryl. You need to get Jr to run that tiller and plant y'all a garden. Choker/Slippers is killing it in this vid. Great video as usual...
30:00 "that was cool dangerous" My kind of fun!
Thanks for taking the time to do another both educational and entertaining video.
Best videos on UA-cam bar none!
your comedy skits are really fun.
One of your best my friend. I honestly have never seen a intake or exhaust valve stuck that bad It looked like cresote on the stem.
Now that was a truly awesome video, funny, creative, very entertaining, and taught a lot.
Re: ground out tab - Mom and Dad had an old ACE tiller with a Briggs on it. When I was a stupid teen I once put my hand on top of a bootless spark plug and pulled the rope trying to get it going. Not an experience I'll soon forget.
Try grabbing a hundred thousand volts from a new car and having your d**k get zapped off of the fender,
Ive had that more then once!
Very informative video as yours always are. Thank you Taryl.
You help me a lot.
Really enjoyed this video Taryl, very informative ! Thanks
You know you have a successful rebuild when the engine trys to jump off the operating table. IT'S ALIVE!
Love the voice for the commenters. Cracks me up. Keep em coming. Love the channel.
I really like how you fellers have mastered the art of using background music and sound effects with them becoming annoying. In your videos they actually add to the experience and make it more fun! Great video as always! WOOO HOO!! THERE’S YOUR DINNER!
Great Job Taryl. Great Video, and commentary as usual.
Love it taryl! Definitely one of your best videos..
I love Choker's badge... And that was definitely cool dangerous the first start!
Good video! You are the doctor!!!!!
I saw the Shure "Vocalmaster" PA amp at the end of the video-we used one of those in our first band-many years ago-it worked great!
Taryl is so awesome; he's never worked a day in his life because he loves what he does and haves' fun doing so.
Taryl thanks for putting humpty back together again!
Great video Taryl!
You guys are the best👍👍
You can tell an old man works at his shop, it is well lit!
Nothing worse than a poorly lit workshop.
Fantastic Informative Video Taryl.
Picked up an older Troy- built Junior with a 4 hp tecumseh, for free. I’ll be going though it shortly. Cool video, thanks guys ! 👍
Nice to see you're getting some use of that Mower Lift contraption.
you guys are good , and also funny, i love it, keep it up
You guys are freaking crazy! I love it.
Taryl, you're a dang genius.
I gotta admit you guys crack me up! But I do find your technical info is priceless...and yes I've used it. Refreshing an Intek 25 horse.

Glad to see not only one to party assemble then to partly tear down to finish assembly
Great episode. Great entertainment.
Great show.
Excellent Thank for Shearing your Knowledge
I would love to see JR do a how too video. Enjoyed it guys 😊
You just got another big thumbs up.! Thank you for sharing.!
It seems like a miracle that you got that all back together. And it does look brand new. Maybe someone put very old two stroke gas in it when it was new.
Blade Man and Throttle with Choker love it !
Good work, and a lucky break getting that little tiller. Enjoyed the slap stick. Keep it up.
Great video cant wait to see more soon!
For some reason, after getting a little small engine experience behind me and being over 50, I can watch these rebuilding videos like a deer in headlights!!!
Rofl, darned funny intro and outdo. Well done guys. This is way better than telly vision.
Real strange about the stuck valve on the engine.
Rotary Badge on Chokers vest...Sound effect of Junior picking his nose...LMAO! Good job Taryl and thanks to all for the video!
Good one Taryl,nice motor job.
Great job,,,,
You guys rock.
Really fun stuff. Enjoyed it! 😎👍

Funny and informative. Thanks for the content.
Good video, you make it look so easy
As always great videos Taryl, love it.
Nice job, lot of time invested in that! Love the smell of a fresh rebuild first run. Or is that just me lol. Thanks all👍
I love that voice that Taryl makes when he makes fun of keyboard cowboys, man its hilarious!!!
Whats the name and part number of that Tach tool. I like it.
Love it Blademan!
Always good thanks for another educational and entertaining episode. You need to summarize your Blade man and Throttle endings with a witty epitaph.
Nice job! The end was great! "You will show up on time" had me rolling!
Hey taryl great video basket case if I'm not mistaken that was a b horror movie from the late60s early 70s once again great how to video can't wait for your next one take care my friend and that goes for your son to and slippers and there's your dinner

There's nothing gormless about Goofy.- great job including a new diagram in the carbutrator.

If your ever up in the CT area. I got a nice “cooper” tiller for ya. A classic and a rare machine.
great work...good job
Nicely done. Likely the governor spring was stretched on purpose to lower the RPM. I think 3800 is OK without Load.
That. Was. Great. Loved. It. Thank u
