Finding a story, no problem. As you already said: Stories are lying on the street, you just have to get out for them. Telling the story, is more difficult. Sometimes I catch my self to think too big and too difficult, and need to learn how to tell a big story in a small way. And the other way around, making a small story big. There is still a lot to learn, and your tutorials are very inspiring. Thank you!
Amen to all of this. Check out the documentary short Instruments of a Beating Heart. A 2025 oscar nominated short doc that is such a simple story told beautifully. Thanks for watching the channel!
@@austinmeyerfilms Thanks for the tip! This was exactly what I meant. You want to make a documentary about a society where the pressure to perform is huge, which results in a highly structured society, and you bring it back to a story about a music performance. No interviews, just observing. And because it is so small you can replace yourself in the main character. Because as a child and even as an adult we have all been in a situation like that. Amazing and inspiring.
@@austinmeyerfilms - I think this channel is going to really find wings when you get on a more regular posting schedule. Once a month or whatever and this channel is going to explode. 📈 Just my $0.02 and not to be taken as criticism. Keep up the good work. 👌🏻
@@mlegrand I appreciate it! Once a week is the plan moving forward :) Trying to build the cadence and systems that allow me to make that happen, while still doing my regular work!
I made a few video documentaries in the past, absolutely loved it and would absolutely love to make more again. Lots of life changes, and lack of finding something to inspire me. This video gives me ideas, inspiration, dreaming of pursuing what I love.
Really enjoying your content Austin. This is the channel I have been looking for. Over the last year I've been focusing my attention on story structure and am just about to embark on a short documentary about a runner.
@@austinmeyerfilms yes really looking forward to it. I'm feeling really invigorated as I finally feel like I have a template to use for other doc ideas. I've strongly leaned into Save the Cat and am just thinking about story in a totally fresh way. Keep up the great work. Would love to see you over the UK sometime.
Can we go with few topics in my region, Sikkim, India. Those topics & stories are Buddhism, Traditional Cultural, Art & Craft, Nature & Lanscape etc. for National Geography Partnership Program?
@@austinmeyerfilms Thank you 😊 There are so many websites of National Geography, so confusion, which one is it? Can you please send me the particular link, which will takes me to the right directions. Thanks 😊
I like your Christmas lights as your studio lights!
Thank you!
