This is the coolest and most simple thing ever. I was ready to toss a very expensive scallop punch. I followed along with you and when I got to the oiling part, I could see a small burr. I cleaned that off, put it back together, and a brand new, fully functioning punch! I am so grateful!!!
Hi Robyn - Dave here... Glad that helped you. Such a simple little thing, but it drives one crazy if it doesn't work! Thanks for checking out Anne's videos!
I thought I had wasted a lot of money buying a used punch online, saw this video, and it really helped! I fixed the punch! I will say that twice, now, on other punches, I thought the punch was not working but it was just stuck. I was afraid to give it that extra oomph to punch thru paper and once I did that, it freed up the punch.
Thanks so much Dave! My daughter did something to one of these old style punches just tonight and I was so grateful you had posted this video. Much needed help that was easy to understand and I worked right beside you while you talked. Thanks so very much.
I just want to thank you so much Dave. I now have two of my punches back in action that haven't been working for months. So glad you thought to put this on the net.
Thank you so much, my su circle punch has been stuck for ages. I did this and had to fiddle for ages as it still kept sticking but is now fixed! Cheers!
Do you know how to fix a Martha Stewart punch (hydrangeas 3 in 1) that is out of alignment and will not punch down through all the way. It just punches the edge of two of the large-flower petals. I took it apart with this wonderful advice here, but I cannot get it to go all the way through the holes, even though the springs seem fine. How do I get it to work properly again? Any advice would be tremendously appreciated, particularly since this punch is discontinued. Thank you.
i know this is very old, but i think the punch just needs new springs, as they are what guide it straight down, and i suspect because the springs are old? when they are compressed they tend to wobble, for lack of a better term,=) . That allows the cutter to slide just enough to jam it up. I have never seen inside a punch before so this is helpful. I wonder where you can buy the new springs for these things.
I can un-jam mine by pressing up from the bottom. Every time I try to cut a piece of paper the paper gets stuck. I can see that the metal is misaligned. One side of the metal circle (it's a circle punch) hits the side first. I used it for one sitting, and it "broke." (I had it laying around for maybe 2 years before pulling it out again to try to fix it.) Mine is a "Recollections " brand, which doesn't have the spot to pry it open with that you show. I took out a couple of screws but that didn't loosen anything. Any ideas for me, Dave?
Thanks so much for this video, Dave. Your tutorial worked perfectly for me. Unfortunately...I think my punch is just ready to retire. I will tell you this...I won't be buying anymore USED punches from eBay. I have not used this particular punch very much. I have tried every way I found to sharpen it and then opened it up and followed your instructions -- it still will not cut on one edge. It will cut cardstock (most of the time), but forget cutting paper. Oh and I used paper shredder oil on mine. =)
Hey Sandra-it's Anne here...I'm glad you loved the video.....my customers kept bringing their punches to Dave to fix so he decided to make this...ha! I wouldn't buy anymore on eBay.....not worth it! Happy stamping!
That is a great question but afraid I don't have a definitive answer. Are you a Demonstrator? You could call into SU and ask. If you aren't, I would be happy to call for you if you would like me to do so. Just let me know!
I need to go throw my tool box and kitchen knives out as they are sharp. Thought you were going to bring an angle grinder out when you said about safety. Wet my Knickers when I saw it was a screwdriver you were taking about.

Thank You! I just purchased a stamp set to use with a punch and the punch wouldn't work. This took maybe 5 minutes and now works like new. :)
