You should absolutely go to Africa! It was one of our favorite continents! West Africa is hard to get around because flights take a long time, but totally worth it!
Thank you so much! Such an intense history, but was one of my favorite videos to edit. This kind of history is just so important to learn so it's not repeated again. Thank you!
I am going to Senegal in October and staying with friends. I am taking my kids who will be 13 and 8. I think this is very important for them to see, especially as French American kids.
It is absolutely important to see! It's not exactly 'fun' or 'enjoyable' but more educational. It's a sad part of our history but it is reality and it's important for people to see how it once was and how far we have come today. Enjoy the rest of Senegal! It's an amazing country!

Definitely need to go back -- Senegal is unbelievable and we were there too short of a time. You definitely need to make it out there if you can! Thanks for watching :)!
Very interesting ! Thanks for sharing! Being from a farm as a kid, some cows with humps store a fluid in them that keeps them cool. Braham cows have them but the ones in India are called Zebu I think. Probably look up on google ?!
Great video! I like that you print important locations/prices on the screen, very important! I think most discerning travel vlog viewers want travel info/tips - not just to see people bee-bopping around catching Instagram-type selfie vids. I want to learn useful information like how you get from A to B, how much it costs...where did you buy this or that ticket, etc. etc. You have a new subscriber :)
Thank you so much for watching and your really nice comment!! We totally agree and always want to make sure to be fully transparent, especially when it comes to prices! Helps with budgeting! Thanks again for your really great comment, made our day! Welcome to the SimpsOn The Go Fam :)!
Of course!! Are you looking for our itinerary in Dakar overall or the hours for the ship to Goree Island? Happy to share any information you'd like! Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much! We would love love to go to Laos and will be making it there as soon as possible! Any specific places in Laos that you think we should try and see?
Thanks so much for watching! It was certainly a very heavy day learning about the history, but the beauty was absolutely unbelievable. Absolutely worth a visit! Historical sites are just so powerful, aren't they?
The history of Senegal and Goree Island didn't begin with slavery. The Wolof people are ancient, having a very ancient civilization that stretches way back beyond even when they had a trading agreement with the Phoenicians over 2000 years ago. What is modern day Senegal was a Phoenician port, giving the Phoenicians access to the gold rich kingdoms of West Africa. Their DNA and language is traced back to the Nile Valley, to Nubia. Goree Island has just returned to what it was for most of its history, vibrant and very West African.. Slavery in terms of their history was a very brief, but extremely negative interruption of an ancient history of indigenous African culture. The people who really suffered were the African descendants that were taken to the New World never to regain the memory of the rich culture you are lucky to experience in Senegal. Afro descendant black Americans, black Brazilians, Colombians, Hondurians, etc. live as amnesiac Africans in countries that deny them full equality. The perpetuation of the tragedy of slavery is not in Africa, it's in the American prison industrial complex, housing projects, Brazilian favelas and all forms of anti black racialized systems in the New World where we were shipped like sardines
Thanks for traveling to Senegal and documenting your positive experience for the world to see!
