As someone who watches a lot of "Lethal Company" on Twitch, this was even more of an OOF - the beehive in that game can kill you! i mean, to be honest, it's actual proof that the military spending of america WORKS and is doing it's job. also, i agree, the united states does significantly more humanitarian work than any other country, and yet we are constantly harassed by the rest of the world for not doing MORE humanitarian aid.
The US just spends so much that the corruption can wet their beaks and be satisfied without ruining the whole military; because you basically cannot escape corruption and nepotism. The US has figured out just the right balance of cracking down on corruption and spending to get a working military at the end, and not rockets 'fueled' with water, or tanks with cardboard-stuffed ERA panels.

In the early 2000s, people from my USAF unit flew to Iran on a relief mission. They took food, clothing, blankets, medicine, water, water purifiers, and literally filled seven C5 Galaxy cargo planes with humanitarian supplies... NONE of it was reported on the news, only those of us who were involved with it knew anything about us sending US service members and aircraft to freakin Iran after a massive earthquake. At least they stopped the "UNALIVE AMERICA!!!" chants for a while. All through the 80s and 90s we had the Afghan Relief missions where we would fly wounded and injured Afghans to Germany where the US military would give them medical aid. Tens of thousands of people who had stepped on Russian landmines or were injured with the conflict at the time, flew on USAF planes to get free medical care.... how did they repay us for that? But yeah.. all we do is war.
We spend more than the next ten countries COMBINED. Of course that makes sense though, since they don't need to spend much because they can rely on us to save them... right NATO?

It really isn't... A stealth plane has to be built that way from the start, or it just doesn't work. They gave the F15 an upgrade a while ago, a radar absorbant coating I think. It reduced its radar cross-section from barn-sized to bus-sized. If the US wants a better stealth fighter than the F22, they'll have to make one... Oh hey, they're making one !

I am an Army Brat and as a kid my dad would make it clear that some cultures are better than others. There is a certain part of the world that my father has viewed negatively for the majority of my life. As an adult who pays attention to global issues, I now understand why my dad feels the way his does. I have seen too much American blood spilt for people who will not kick ass and take names because they assume American selflessness and love of freedom will come to save them every time.
Man, even though I’m American, I find myself agreeing with tea and crumpets more and more. It’s just nice to know that all of that defense spending was all to keep the country prepared.

It looks crazy until you start considering the logistics of a global force. You want to keep an aircraft carrier on station somewhere like ..oh say.. the IO? Thats a 4 boat rotation. One on station, one working up for deployment, and two in maintenance or refit. US has 12 big boy carriers; thats 3 places you can be all the time; and thats just carriers. If you don't appropriately supply and maintain your capabilities they degrade real fast because the tempo doesn't slow down and you start putting a lot of miles on those hulls and crews.

also, i agree, the united states does significantly more humanitarian work than any other country, and yet we are constantly harassed by the rest of the world for not doing MORE humanitarian aid.
The US just spends so much that the corruption can wet their beaks and be satisfied without ruining the whole military; because you basically cannot escape corruption and nepotism. The US has figured out just the right balance of cracking down on corruption and spending to get a working military at the end, and not rockets 'fueled' with water, or tanks with cardboard-stuffed ERA panels.
Honestly we just need to take over the entire world. Not for a power hungry move but so the whole planet can be one people united together and we can ALL share the burden and help each other out. In the early 2000s, people from my USAF unit flew to Iran on a relief mission. They took food, clothing, blankets, medicine, water, water purifiers, and literally filled seven C5 Galaxy cargo planes with humanitarian supplies... NONE of it was reported on the news, only those of us who were involved with it knew anything about us sending US service members and aircraft to freakin Iran after a massive earthquake. At least they stopped the "UNALIVE AMERICA!!!" chants for a while.
All through the 80s and 90s we had the Afghan Relief missions where we would fly wounded and injured Afghans to Germany where the US military would give them medical aid. Tens of thousands of people who had stepped on Russian landmines or were injured with the conflict at the time, flew on USAF planes to get free medical care.... how did they repay us for that?
But yeah.. all we do is war.

- You benefit directly from the technological advancements from those sectors.

It really isn't... A stealth plane has to be built that way from the start, or it just doesn't work. They gave the F15 an upgrade a while ago, a radar absorbant coating I think. It reduced its radar cross-section from barn-sized to bus-sized. If the US wants a better stealth fighter than the F22, they'll have to make one... Oh hey, they're making one !

my dad served in the air force for 25 years and watched his friends fight in the same places repeatedly when he left they were going back too fight in the middle east.
he told me its because somehow america is the world police despite every nation condemning us for being that after they ask for aid.

This is because we are on a major guilt trip for sitting back for YEARS while Japan and Germany (and Italy?) were ravishing the rest of the world. Since then, we feel obligated to stick our nose into anything that can turn bad before another genocide occurs. Sucks... but I would rather us be a proactive "world police" then to burry our heads in the sand again and lettings the rest of the world burn.

I am an Army Brat and as a kid my dad would make it clear that some cultures are better than others. There is a certain part of the world that my father has viewed negatively for the majority of my life. As an adult who pays attention to global issues, I now understand why my dad feels the way his does. I have seen too much American blood spilt for people who will not kick ass and take names because they assume American selflessness and love of freedom will come to save them every time.
Man, even though I’m American, I find myself agreeing with tea and crumpets more and more. It’s just nice to know that all of that defense spending was all to keep the country prepared.
I guess in particular instances like this, "it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it". though it still sucks that there would be a need at all
I have never once felt afraid of another nation. That's what our budget buys us.
Wars are conducted on enemy land. We civlians are immune to our nations conflicts. That security is priceless.

It looks crazy until you start considering the logistics of a global force. You want to keep an aircraft carrier on station somewhere like ..oh say.. the IO? Thats a 4 boat rotation. One on station, one working up for deployment, and two in maintenance or refit. US has 12 big boy carriers; thats 3 places you can be all the time; and thats just carriers. If you don't appropriately supply and maintain your capabilities they degrade real fast because the tempo doesn't slow down and you start putting a lot of miles on those hulls and crews.
