I remember listening to this on Chez 106, Ottawa. Grade 10... great stuff. Pretty much everyone in my high school was a huge Max fan, especially the musicians.
Me too! I was just thinking about Chez 106! I saw Max Webster in '76 when I was attending at Brookfield High school when they opened for Rush in '76. I'm disappointed I never hear this band on Classic Rock Radio. Great CANCON and beats hearing the stuff that always gets played.
You'll find a few other contenders on this channel from the 1976-77 period. Enjoy exploring it ! And if you're this much into Max, you'll almost certainly dig my coffee table book on them too - there are hundreds of great photos contained therein: highclassmax.com
Still listen to Max almost every day. I’ve been playing drums for 45 years and Gary McKraken was an early inspiration. I still hear myself when I hear him play. Really nice indexing on the video BTW.
I loved Max Webster, but was too young to see them. Did got to see Kim a couple of times. The infamous Kingswood Theater show and Aurora HS while in college. Great rockers.
I remember recording this from chum fm in toronto. it recorded on the right channel on my stereo. i played the cassette to death. it's bringing back memories. Thanks for uploading
I remember those simulcast events set up through citytv chumfm man we smoked alot of pot back then we had to it wasn't very goot still smoking pot still listening to Mitchell lifes goot 🐎
First saw Max open for Rush in Ottawa around 1976. Immediate fan. Saw them many times after that. I think the best show may have been at the NAC for the Mutiny album. "This song is dirty, like finding dandruff on your girlfriends shoes" Kim bantering before Lip Service.
A lot of us in our 50's and 60's commenting here. Thanks so much for the uploads and your channel. Love listening to Max even after all these years. Brings back good memories and awesome music!
This version of Lily has brought me to tears. FRICKN INCREDIBLE. I became a diehard fan when i saw them open for Rush, in Syracuse in 1976. Thanks for posting this
Saw them at Winter Land ball room in September of 77 UFO was headlining then lights out tour think about it A Farewell to kings and High Class in borrowed shoes ? What a year and line up I was very lucky to have seen that Winter Land shut down not very long after that
just SUPERB! Kim quotes captain Beefhart before "Lily" (which is fantastic by the way). i enjoy the moments you can hear Mike play synth bass on the ARP Odyssey. The "Tontos" jam comes from the intersection of Zappa & Return To Forever
I am so thrilled to have stumbled onto this channel! Fell in love with Max when I saw them support Rush here in 1979 and was so lucky to see them headline at London’s legendary Marquee Club at the end of that UK support tour. I can’t wait to delve into more vintage Max on your wonderful channel. Thank You!
I snuck a tape recorder into the Lyric Theatre in Kitchener, ON where much of Live Magnetic Air was recorded. Thought they should at least have a backup in case their recording didn't turn out :)
Just found this site ! I love it. Grew up in Rochester NY listening to this. It's been 20 years since I've seen Kim. Thanks for all the videos man! Far out!😜🐒
I stumbled onto this site earlier today. It's now 7pm and I'm hungry. I keep going "Just one more... okay one more, then dinner... okay maybe another one" hahahaha
They had a nice auditorium there. I saw Betty Hill there in 1978 (or 9) and lost any faith in the veracity of her story. They also had a nice art program that a friend took am extra year to attend. They closed soon thereafter, and are now an adult high school, I believe.
Thx for posting. I recorded this on 8 track back in the day from Chum FM and many years later got it off a torrent site. Always wished Kim, Terry & the gang would remaster and release. Killer version of Lily and Rain Child. Does anyone know if this was the full set and there might be other audio that wasn't on the radio broadcast? HCiBS would've been out by then
They played a few more songs before the recording began, acting as a soundcheck - they did Oh War!, Here Among The Cats, Gravity, and Don't Be A Moon. Here's a review of the gig on my Max site: maxwebsterlive.ca/1977-08-08-ottawa

Great performance and recording! Hats off to band and technicians 👍🏼👍🏼
Pure nostalgia! I saw them at MM Robinson High School in Burlington, Ontario in the late 70's
This is better than Live Magnetic Air. It should have been their first live album ~ a double live album. The quality is superb.

Incredible musicianship!
They were such a tight freakin band. Loved them then and still do.

wow! .....WORDS TO WORDS.....I'm speechless! Got to be one of the most beautiful ballads ever!
Best version of Diamonds Diamonds I have ever heard.
This is phenomenal. Listens to the single Kim released with the Bare Naked Ladies for this song.
Audio is great and awesome performance!
you can really spot the difference that two years
on the road do to the band..they are smoking tight! great recording too ! thanks!
Wow the quality of sound I remember:Oh War !" during this tour man the opening of that song was scary
This is a surprisingly good recording. Well done and thanks for posting...great to reminisce.
Greatness! Saw Max backing up the mighty RUSH in May 1977!
Excellent audio, great performance
And we went from these musical geniuses to The Hip as Canada’s favourite cult band…
TH in my opinion, are garbage.
TH couldn't wipe Max's ass

@@MaxWebsterArchive Yes I have only just found that out - and watched your interview clip with Sid on BT. You ship to the UK?

I read that he doesn't like the song
