"Taking place in the future, humanity has finally developed the technology to advance from Earth and maintain numerous colonies. Various planets were discovered and colonized by man, but none of them had established any extraterrestrial existence prior to colonization. The most prosperous planet colony had been set on the planet Syracuse where human technology (and apparently linguistics) flourished. However, a distress call came from Syracuse claiming that the flagship of its military, the Aphrodite, initiated a violent rebellion against the people and its passengers refused to make any demands or reason. The player is sent from headquarters in the middle of space to planet Syracuse in the Verytex star fighter to stop the battle and find its true cause."
Quite a basic but good shoot em up for the mega drive (japan only). Only 1 loop begining to end thankfully as that last boss was a real pain with beams and shots going everywhere. Nice music and gfx which can really get in the way when your flying at speed and trying to see/dodge the shots.
The special power/smart bomb effect never seemed to do an awful lot. I could easily go through them and not make a dent on the boss. There are only 3 weapons and I didn't notice if you can upgrade them or not. I didn't try to collect same weapon a few times I row, but didn't notice any upgraded effect. Most of the enemy attack patterns are pretty standard and easy to memorize, and don't differ much through the course of the game. Getting to the bosses is the easy part or so it seems. -

the music is beautiful,, and people say the Genesis can't make sweet ass tunes
When the right person, in this case Hitoshi Sakimoto, handles the hardware, he can make it sound amazing. But it has to be someone who knows what they are doing, and he knew how to work with the MD soundchip.
Hitoshi Sakamoto
'nuff said.
I instantly fell in love with the music the first time i saw this game. I remember that i have to get it no matter what. When i finally bought it, almost every day i play this game from start till finish, accompanied by a cup of warm coffee. Such a nice memory, i occasionally still play it if i have the chance. LOVE VERYTEX, thank you for the AWESOME music and memories, Asmik.
they should called it Veryhard.
that wouldnt have been a good name unless they just took the h out of it
the reason why Verytex shares the same Data East's sound effects (like Midnight Resistance, Captain America & The Avengers and Two Crude Dudes) is because the sound effects is made by Hitoshi Sakimoto, whose also the music composer of all those games also. Devlish/Bad Omen also shares the same sound effects as well.
I agree. I wish ALL Sega Genesis games used his sound driver.
That parallax scrolling is awesome It reminds me of M.U.S.H.A. and Crisis Force.
Sure Hitoshi Sakimoto did an outstanding job with his sound driver and some of the musical compositions for this game, but also Masaharu Iwata and Yoshio Furukawa worked on it but seems like nobody talks about them and they sure have to be praised for their musical greatness too. For example each of the first 3 stages themes were done by eache one of them (Sakimoto, Iwata and Furukawa)
Do you know who composed/arranged each track?
@@darthixion957 Sakimoto composed The Void of Space, Inner Lining of the Planet (I think), and the Ending theme (I think). Furukawa composed Ruined Area and Inside Planet (I forget the name of the planet). Iwata composed the intro, Border Region, and the boss themes.
@@camulodunon Thanks! May I ask where you found this info?
@@darthixion957 Even the style of the music is enough to recognize who did which one. If you aren't familiar with the composers check their other works, for example Cyber Block Metal Orange for the PC-98.
@@danmakuman Thanks!
The best thing about this game is the soundtrack. It's just great.
Just goes to show in the right hands the Genesis is capable of some amazing background music!
Хорошая игра. Отличная музыка, особенно в последней миссии. При создании последней миссии разработчики наверно вдохновились серией Contra.
Man, all I can think of are those rocking tracks from Midnight Resistance. Some of the best action game music of all time.
Did you know everyone in Texas loves this game.
Because it's Verytex
They sure have a ton of houses in Houston
ABSOLUTELY AWESOME and STUNNINGLY AMAZING Soundtrack

Best one....still remember when I played this game during my childhood every night
The eye laser that the final boss shoots is scary.

One of the best game, and the music is amazing

I just started playing this game and immediately i liked the music, really awesome so is the game!
i loved the boss music on stage 1 3 and 6 just before the final boss
Majorly fortunate hit box at 7:14-the enemy bullet actually hits/goes through the player's ship. But with schumps, you gotta take what you can get!
As musicas desses jogo me encantaram demais, mano! Ce eh louco! Que lindo!
This is why I bought a Japanese mega drive loved this game
Great stuff with good progression with the power ups, alittle more chill than say Truxton but Verytex is no push over either!
Uno de los mejores juegos de naves que jugue en mi vida !
Could sb translate the ending perhaps? Would be cool to know what it all means. Looks like a pretty decent shoot'em up!
I used Google Translate on my phone, aimed its camera at the screen, and for what it's worth, this is the translation I got:
_"Verytex returned. The people of the colony star "Syracuse" was a bitter victory over the sacrifices of many crew members of the combatant Aphrodite. And the intellectual life that human beings first met also disappeared with the victory of Verytex. But in this broad universe there are other life forms that evolved to the greatest extent than mankind."_
That's what Google translate got for me.
This is my first ever video game that I've played in my life 😁😁
I had this on a dodgy import cartridge. Loved the music.
Masterpiece
The game itself is not particularly distinguished quality, but the music is there just a class.
Only noticed missile upgrade, first 2 from the sides, then 2 from the sides 2 from the rear and last 2 sides and 3 from the rear. And the vulcan gun shoots from the rear also after you picked up a few.
Nice game, never played this one.
Its interesting where you dig that story from.
Yeas .. amazing !!!
Did Data East make this? The sound totally reminds me of Midnight Resistance.
I believe Hitoshi Sakimoto made the music for this and the *AWESOME* Midnight Resistance, which has maybe the best music of any 16-bit game.
Sweet!!! Thank you for the reply.
当時中古を千円くらいで買ったけどあんまし面白く思えなかったのですぐ売りました。今箱取説揃ってるやつはそれなりに高騰してますね。
This is the first genesis game I've ever played.
cool play by The Mad One! I do have a gripe with this game tho: why did Asmik have to go & rip Data East's MegaDrive/Genesis SFX engine? hope they got the licence for it... otherwise OK; a bit on the generic , but I'll have to admit, the musical score was alright!
Kinda had a Galaga feel too it at first, the. Astro warrior :)
Linda trilha sonora!
Ótimo jogo
Saudades...

When I was a kid, I bought a Sunset Riders cartridge and when I went back home to test it, it was this game and I didn't know the name of this game because it was written in japanese and not in english. Soundtracks were very good but the game itself was way too hard for me and I didn't asked for a refund on the store, just sold it to someone else lol
Jogão!👏👏👏
that final boss is on another level compared to the rest of the game wtf lol
yeah i love the music on stage 1 as soon it as it starts up but that final boss i hated him so much he's was always hard for me but i always killed him after a lot of practice i never owned this game my friend had it i had to borrow his game genie so icould borrow verytex aswell so i could play it on my mega drive
🔥🔥🔥
ça me fait penser à l'OST de kingdom grand prix de raizing
Jogando em 2023!! Não saio do último mestre, nao consigo😂😂
this game sounds more like an RPG
4th best Mega Drive/Genesis soundtrack (after Hyperstone Heist & Bare Knuckle 1 & 2)
Not even close. Thunder Force 4, baby. Best game soundtrack, ever.
I'll throw in Thunder Force 3 & 2 as well!!!!
@@theusher2893 Lords of Thunder on the PCE CD kicks a ton of ass too

Soundtrack is ok, but the sound effects... Good grief... Such ear rape!
I love the sound effects on Hitoshi Sakimoto's sound driver that he used.
Soundtrack is ok???? Way more than that, pal.
@@solarflare9078 unfortunately, to some people nothing on the Genesis ever goes beyond "ok"
