    Dear HK, Please release an MR556 with the HK416 barrel profile and chrome lining. Please also consider a civilian version of the HK416A5, or an MR556 in FDE. Sincerely, every HK enthusiast in the US.

    • @kawancraigstewart

      Amen. I just got the CR556 competition and that is my only problem and I can't get over it. I have a Les Baer 308 monolith that I hold a half inch minute of angle with. I don't care or did I want an HK with a Match grade Barrel allowing a half in min. of angle as advertised. I'm not using it to reach out and touch. the accuracy with a chrome lined barrel is enough for putting down targets 100 meters and under and you can still reach out and bang without burning barrels

      decodeddiesel. It is my understanding that pursuant to German law, which precludes the sale of military arms to civilians outside of Germany (inside too!), HK cannot sell this firearm with a chrome lined bore. Apparently a chrome lined bore is a feature that makes a semi-auto rifle a military arm in the eyes of the German government.

      John Smith
      A chrome-lined barrel does not make a civilian MR556 a military assault weapon. Trying to tell that to Germany's current Chancellor would be akin to talking to a fortified steel wall.

    I carried the HK 416 in Afghan while with 2/4 Marines and it was a very good gun. The only thing I did not like was that my gas piston had to be LUBED supper well for some reason. I put a very light coat of CLP on it and while on patrol we got ambushed by a 4 to 5 man Taliban team and my gun stoped cycling after about 65 rounds. I had to use it as a bolt action for the rest of the fight. When I got back to the COP I looked at what might have happend and on the gas pistion there are little rings on the end, kinda of like metal washers. Well my washers were a little large and my buddy who was anothere tester looked at his gas piston and his washers were a little smaller. His gas piston would come out with ease. My gas pistion would not come out with ease. I took the file on my Gerber and filled the washers down and I never had a problem again. Granted I kept an ample amount of CLP on it, but I like to think that what I did worked.

There are times that one system vs the other is optimal. Owning both types, they are both great. Piston rifle is definitely heavier but nothing a few more push ups or pull ups cant fix.

    Being a saw gunner, most of the time we didnt run with a box mag on the weapon. If we did it was only a 100rounder. Most of the time we used loose belts of 50 as they were easier to carry in webbing and lighter to partrol with. The 100 round box mag was saved for specific purposes like ambushing or a heavy contact. Basically my point is, the supposed advantage the saw (or other belt fed weapons) have being less frequent reloads and more ammunition is rendered moot by impracticality. The 416's faster will result in a greater rate of fire.

    this may not be a big deal to some people, but it is to me if anyone cares, probably not though. I dont have all the money in the world. I love firearms an when i buy something I want to know its made the best it can be with the best materials. For the huge price tag I would expect this from companies like H&K and FN. but they use cheaper steel and although they list it in the fine print they d o not advertise it. Someone who saves up for months to buy one of their rifles is spending more money on less. Daniel Defense and many other companies like BCM, Spikes and so on use better barrel steel and cost a fraction of the cost. I dont understand why they do this and charge so much. It really pisses me off. They need to be more upfront with us buyers about this.

      Wow, so you're probably one of the first few people to handle the prototypes and the production models, eh? I've handled the MR556A1 at the Leesport Gun Show a few times over the past three years, and the one I handled last year had a Daniel Defense rail on it. That RIS/handguard is VERY ergonomic, and I can safely say that if I ever became a US Army operator, an HK416 with a Daniel Defense rail system would be the ideal option for a fellow like me. It feels great; the top rail lines up perfectly so that it's flush with the rail on the upper receiver; and you can have rails wherever you want while having no rails where you don't need them. All-in-all, an outstanding operating system, and I'm hoping the Berks County Sheriff's Office adopt the HK416 as their standard patrolman's rifle in the not-so-distant future--if they haven't already.

Like Mr Vickers and this video is great, but as a civilian I am NOT going to Afghanistan, invading a beach of a foreign nation, getting into a firefight with crazed insurgents. @Hekler & Koch, guys, the civilian version of HK416 - due to that strange barrel you put there... sucks. The MR223 (maybe MR556 is different) due to that barrel which weights half of the rifle in the 11'5" version! (16" is probably heavier) is completely out of balance. The 70-80% of the rifle overall weight is in front (ultra heavy barrel and the handguard rail system). It feels like heaving 5-6kg rifle when handled in the field. Any manipulation when the front hand needs to be released - changing the magazines, touching the radio, wounds or anything else - even for a moment causes the situation that your holding hand suffers (when use over and over you may face a wrist injury due to the long leverage in front of the rifle) and the rifle goes down immediately. If you're hurt, tired or do not have muscular forearms and wrists the rifle goes down from the target. It's almost impossible to keep it on target by using one hand only all the time. It has nothing to do with the HK416 except the overall look and maybe a gas system (which may also not be the 100% HK416 original gas system. And when you put the EOTech (and flashlight) it is a dramatic experience. The rifle cannot be handled smooth and fast with ease. Take a look at the BCM, SigSauer MCX or similar rifles. They are masterpiece in case of quality, ergonomy, weight balance and handling. The MR223 from the European market even with the 11'5" barrel its terrible. Even AK47! has a better balance and you can hold it with one hand when hurt or switching a mag. In that HK MR223 (probably 556 as well) is abomination. On that movie you mention that the barrel is so thick and heavy for better accuracy. Guys, it is not a sniper or benchrest bolt action rifle to have such heavy and thick barrel. It is a CQB and running & gunning rifle. Most shots are up to 1-50 meters some maybe 100-150 meters. HK you could do better. And if you want to keep it as is do not compare it to HK416. HK416 weights approx. 3kg and has. HK MR 223/556 is 3,5kg (what's worst 0,5kg more in front of the rifle on the barrel).Add EOTech and Surefire and you have 4,5kg rifles when 70-80% of the weight is in front. Guys - clients - before you buy it, take it in your hands at the gun store phisically. And compare it to BCM, Sig MCX, S&W or any other AR-15 (gas or piston) then decide. The fact that a rifle looks like HK416 doesn't mean it is even it's clone. In my personal opinion it shouldn't be compare to HK416. It is a different rifle. Ah, if someone use it for the shooting prone position or benchrest - yes, that rifle HK MR would be ok. CQB or running and gunning it may looks good but it doesn't feel suchy when compare to other AR's on the market.

    and H&K doesnt even chrome line the barrel. There is no nitriding or treatment in the bore. This is almost a standard feature on normal Ar15's. hell, S&W M&P 15's, BCM, and even higher cost options like LWRC and POF use barrel treatments and t he POF is the same price as the MR 556 upper for the complete piston rifle and they use billet uppers, lowers, chrome bolt, nitriding, NP3 treatment, I mean my god the features are endless. and the MR556 has non of that.

    I am a fan of the new HK 417 "Assaulter" (the FA version) but it's really too heavy. I would personally pick a KAC SR-25 ECC customized compact carbine iteration with a 16" barrel shortened but without a larger brake and instead a specialized/custom can (maybe a short GEMTECH or SUREFIRE, most likely). They have new models, including the DD 3-D variants, titanium cans (the likely one I'd pick if I could find a short can for taking corners etc). *Same with a super old Gen 2 Aimpoint Comp style red dot with one of those fancy new 6x mag installed with 45 degree offset BUIS by a local company. Also, a local Magpul PMAG GEN M3 25 rnd in it's flared magwell (with another dozen, regardless of weight as I'd try to get a Maxim CQB for rear furniture if possible thought idk much how that would work).* Anyone try any of this style of set up?

    What are the pros and cons of a non-chrome lined barrel?

    • @wcropp1
      @wcropp1 11 років тому

      In a nutshell, it's more accurate, but less durable and, in theory, should reduce cost. There are other finishes available as well--melonite, for example, seems to offer many of the advantages of chrome with fewer downsides.

    • @jointchief7560
      @jointchief7560 10 років тому +2

      Chrome lining was started because of military weapons not lasting as long as intended. Barrels were shot out sometimez in less than 1500 shots. Full auto fire causes the throat to erode much faster than semi auto. Heat is the enemy in ordnance steel.

    Sorry, but the weight savings are overstated. The M27 is 8.16 lbs empty with no magazine. H&K lists it at 12.6 lbs, as issued to the Marines, fully loaded with all the junk. As always, enthusiasts exaggerate the objects of their affection. The M16A4 is 7.18 lbs empty--and that's with a full 20 inch barrel. By comparison, the M16A1 is 6.5 lbs with a GI mag and the M4 is 6.1 lbs, naked. Don't yell at me, those are the numbers. Given the shortcomings of the 5.56 round, the M16A1 is the best of the lot if you are firing M193 ball.

  • @LordDigz12

    Why did you shoot the M16 from the magazine and the 416 from a bipod? Seems like an unfair accuracy comparison. Also why did you do a weight/mobility comparison with just the SAW and not the logical comparison of the HK 416 vs the M16?

    • @patrickmingle

      +LordDigz12 He shot them in the configuration they are issued. The M27 is issued with a bipod the M16A4 is not. Same deal with the comparison. The M27 was issued to replace some of the USMC M249s.

    You could def still put a bipod/grippod onto the M16A4. I think you should have since the other two have one, make it as even as possible. No shit the M16A4 isn't going to perform as well from prone without a bipod, that's common sense. That ONE shot that almost missed the target obviously makes it the worst without comparing the other two as it can't possible get worse unless you miss completely. Also, you shot 10 rounds with the M16A4, so shooting that many with the M249 and M27 was ideal.
    On another note though. The only way an M27 could replace an M249 would be if it had a Beta C-Mag 100 round drum. Having to reload after 30 or 60 (casket mag) shots doesn't do much for suppression. Any 30 round 5.56 caliber full auto weapon system can do that. You get WAY more than just a single mag dump out of an M249, and that's why they use them. A RELIABLE drum mag can definitely be better than a belt fed weapon as long as it feeds properly and reliably. Faster reloading is always a plus. I'd imagine the Beta C-Mag would be about the same weight as the 100 round cloth/plastic ammo box that clips onto the M249 as well.
    Finally, Larry's gotta work on his pronunciation of the words, Tokarev (seen in the 'Original AK-47' video), Trijicon, and the other guy (who works for HK) needs to learn how to pronounce the Koch part of Heckler and Koch. It's not "coke" or "kotch". I don't now how to spell it's proper pronunciation, nor do I think the dictionary type of pronunciation would be easily understood. But if you watch any of XboxAhoy's videos on an HK weapon, he pronounces it correctly. Perhaps since he's over there in Europe, relatively close to Germany, in England. He also explains the real/official pronunciation in one of his videos.

    first they all have bipod capability you just didnt put one on the m16. second i would love to see that m27 after a 5hr firefight with the taliban when it doesnt have a quick change barrel and fires from an open bolt. machine guns are designed like that for a reason and thats why after all this the Marine Corp still uses the saw and 240b or the mk46 and 48.
