"Immigrant Song" has been used in "Thor: Ragnarok", "Shrek 3", "Life on Mars", and "School of Rock" (I might have missed one or two). Great song and great example of early metal. One phrase from it, "Hammer of the Gods", became the title of a biography (unofficial) about Led Zeppelin written by Stephen Davis, published in 1985. This is an example of why Led Zeppelin is considered by many to be the best rock band in history. Aside from being gifted musicians, they were incredibly versatile and creative. Listening to "The Rain Song" and comparing it to this is no greater example of that. No other band has ever been able to quite replicate their "magic", although many have tried. ;)
THIS IS THE SONG!! THIS IS THE SONG!!! It came out when I was 17 and was the first hard rock I fell in love with. I have be a hard core Zeppie fan for the last 52 years. THANK YOU for keeping them alive.
I've noticed that on their shorter songs you just don't want it to end .. May I suggest "In my time of dying" , "Kashmir" , and the almighty "Achilles Last Stand" .. you will not be disappointed .. Peace ✌️
Led Zeppelin were notorious for not granting licenses on their music. The film was shot with Immigrant Song not knowing if we’d ever clear it. Come Post production, we had to set up a screening for Robert Plant because he wouldn’t grant the license. He saw the movie, loved it and said yes. But the video we sent to him is out there (Jack Black making a plea to Page/Plant for the license). ❤❤❤
If you think about it it's actually pretty crazy how they did that because a vast majority of their songs were covers that was not even their song(s) !
Been on a lot of back road driving to this song. Blasting Led Zeppy from pioneer speakers. Movin to the groovin!! There may or may not have been herbs present.. Either way it was killer!!! OH thank you my friend for the wonderful stroll down memory lane!! You are a magic man which is another song that was blaring right after this song... I may be 63 now but inside I’m still the young, cool, beautiful cheerleader that adored Led Zeppelin, the guys in the band (hello Robert and Jimmy 😍😍) the music, the feel. Hector! Great stuff yet again, man! I just made this comment on yout "Trampled Under Foot" reaction, just gonna re-post it here, lol! You and Zeppy both Rock! "I keep saying it, maybe one day you'll do it, lol! You keep saying you want more Led Zeppy Drums. Who wouldn't?? LOL. And I keep saying, HERE: "In My Time of Dying." Ten minutes of some of the loudest, baddest-ass drum-dominant song you'll ever hear! Love yer reactions!"
Your prologues are just too damn funny (should be longer..lol) always manage to crack me up. Followed by a thoughtful and entertaining reaction. It's no surprise your numbers keep rising.
Love your reactions man. This influenced so much cool punk and post-punk and other kinds of music going forward. Metal as well. Although it was into the early 80s before I started hearing XTC, the legendary British post-punk band, somehow The Immigrant Song here made me think of it. I would love to see you reacting to especially the early XTC. I think it's highly likely that you are already familiar with them but who knows. For example, it's not their earliest stuff but Drums and Wires. It's iconic and mind-blowing. And it would suit your mania just perfectly. 😊😊
