Great walkthrough. I'm just getting into Pottery and while I was taught how to build up a pot from coils pretty much as you described it, there was no mention of templates!

Using the leveler for the neck was a great idea

Great video. I’d live to see it completed with glazing.

This is very informative! I’m going to have a go at making my first ever anything made of clay in years, and this video is both a really good guide and inspiration. Thank you for sharing! 🙂

Nice pot, but I have to say coiling was the thing that convinced me that I had to learn to throw properly!

Could you put the damp pot on a hand spinning wheel, spin it, and use the template to scrape/smooth the pot?

I wonder how much time it takes without editing?

This is wonderful, very helpful - thank you for sharing this! About how much clay would one need for this size of pot? And how to ensure the pot doesn't start slumping/sagging under the weight of the coils above, while you're building?

Hi there. I tend to make them in stages. I add about 5 coils then let it sit and firm up before I add more. This stops it sagging under the weight. I usually have one on the go at once, so that I can work on another one, whilst the other is firming up. I've never weighed the amount of clay I use for one of these. I just have a 12kg bag and keep slicing off more as I need it. Next time I make one I will try to weigh the clay.

Your new intro is awesome :) Did you get your ruler from toolstation by any chance?

That was a little painful to watch for a person who does coils in long spirals.
