I’m wasn’t recommending a staccato as the gun to carry for this situation. Should have worded that better. I said buy cheap. But I only used my staccato as a prop because it’s usually on me. I shoot with it infinitely better than anything else. That being said, my recommendation would be to get a Glock even though I don’t like them much. It’s essentially the ak of the pistol world.

What you fail to understand is that they will take them by force. Your answer is that everyone should just comply. NO. You gear up and defend with equal or greater force. I was working there during Katrina. Was the one who set up operations the day after it hit and worked all three states. The local LE was displaced and those on the ground were from out of town out of state and lots of federal agencies. No jurisdiction. An unconditional mandate is not a legal pass. If you allow your property to be confiscated, then you ALLOWED it. There is danger in a fight for freedom. Freedom isn't free.

I’m not sure what state you are in however I have been in Law Enforcement in Texas for 35 years.
Here in Texas we created a State Law that allows Citizens to be armed during a disaster, not only that we have Constitutional Carry here in Texas.
When I was in the Guard I would have refused to fallow an unlawful order and as a Law Enforcement Officer I would also refuse.
My Sheriff as well as all other Deputies believe in the Constitution and would stand between the Citizens and anyone who would be foolish enough to even attempt to disarm us.

We have similar laws in my state. Constitutional carry and all. But they've proven time and time again, if the emergency is bad enough, they will suspend your rights. Just look what they did in New Mexico last month with suspending conceal carry rights over a shooting. They are itching to use their power in many of these states.

insurgencies or revolutions require ammunition resupply and some form of sustainability. US Citizens have none of that. 1/3 of all 5.56 ammo is currently provided by the Lake City government facility. One common theme in all revolutions is resupply by outside forces. Even in the revolutionary war we had manufacturing capability to fight the english and the french supplied us as well. All you have in the US is what is currently on the street and once martial law is established, all supplies will dry up almost immediately. A long term fight is non sustainable and would be the end of the US as we know it. Especially with China and Russia just looking for weakness on our end.

@@sigma3survivalschool another common theme is Guerrilla warfare where small units attack and retain gear from the enemy as a means of resupply. I suspect if it gets bad enough here that Marshall law is instituted there won’t be much hope in the minds of the citizens and as Sun Tzu points out giving the enemy no hope and nothing to lose is never a good thing. In Katrina they took guns from a lot of people, but the people they didn’t take guns from was people in their front yards with about 20 guys that was armed they would bypass and leave it alone, but when they cut other people with guns and gun cases or cut them by surprise in their house they took their weapons when I seen the videos of Katrina, they didn’t bother with large groups of people that had guns because they didn’t want to conflict with them. They were left alone so if you have 2030 people with long guns in the front yard of your property during a pandemic, or a natural disaster. They’re more than likely to overlook that situation because they don’t want things to go bad.

If you are not self equipped you are useless to him, there is no time to train you and no body is handing out free guns, body armor, or NVG's, you either have them or you don't. So the police/National Guard footage confiscating firearms during Katrina and other disasters seems to have taken place in Democratically led states and most of us have a good understanding of where they stand on the 2nd amendment. That being said an event like Hurricane in the sate of Louisiana and Puerto Rico or an earthquake in the state of California would be the perfect opportunity for those law makers to institute martial law to circumvent our constitutional rights and confiscate firearms.

When you spoke about a SHTF scenario with people banding together I had to laugh a bit being a veteran of the 1992 LA riots - six days of peace and love - yeah right. I was in Korea Town and the only reason why it was still standing (albeit parts were smoldering and looted out) was because the Koreans banded together and fought back! One guy was seen on TV shooting rioters who had broken into his video store across the street - no charges. Likewise no charges for the Koreans. I myself was attacked by five urbanites and had to point my friends pistol at them to chase them off. I had never owned a gun before but exactly 15 days later I sure as hell did. Not prepping for the end-of-the-world or zombie apocalypse but maybe just another "civil disobedience" in my neighborhood. Nobody will burn me out or ever chase me off again. No cops trying to confiscate weapons or stop those protecting themselves - hell no cops at all. One thing I learned is - you're on your own.

I'm getting older but have studied history / military history most of my life. I knew something was seriously wrong in our country / world many years ago. The clamor to disarm us was a real clue. I think declaration of martial law is a possibility but the nationwide scenario is logistically impossible to enforce. The major cities would be the focus and would divulge into a quagmire. I don't see controlling millions of desperate people in the cities as having a good ending for either the population or military. I would recommend the military walk / talk softly to the rural communities. In the rural areas, there already is county personnel organizing and recruiting.(especially since 2020). The Sheriffs posse's have been organizing as militias and networking with preserving the counties' security and resources as their goal. Inevitably, I see hordes of refugees and thugs streaming out of the cities and overrunning the suburban counties but getting stopped in the truly rural counties. Country boy can survive. (and shoot, grow food, hunt, know the land and neighbors) These counties are probably linking up comms to mutually support each other. The rural counties would not be immune to marauders / internal thugs but that would not be a long lived profession in the countryside.

I live in Panama City, Florida. In 2018 we had hurricane Michael, cat 4. It destroyed Tyndall Air Force base, which I live 5 minutes from and it did billions of dollars worth of damage to our county, that a lot of people are still recovering from. I personally had over $160k worth of damage to my $400k home, fortunately I was well insured. I'm a firearms instructor and gunsmith and know quite a few LEO's. At no point did they give any issue to anyone carrying openly, which is technically illegal in Florida, unless on private property, hunting, fishing, or camping. There were multiple times where people were shot for attempting to loot or rob. In no case was anyone ever charged, in fact, in one case the gun was returned to the victim the very next day. The sheriff's office gave many warnings to not loot or rob, because residents are expected to use lethal force. LEO's from surrounding areas came to assist, from as far as Miami. The LEO's posted road blocks on highways into the county and did not allow people in that didn't have ID with a local address. To prevent out of town looters from coming in. There was a group of 4 people that came into my neighborhood pretending to be ATF agents and cops (badges, shirts, hats, guns on their hip), they tried to "confiscate" firearms. When 6 well armed men came outside to confront them, they tried to flee. They didn't make it far. They were held for the real cops and left in handcuffs. That was played on the news, with a message..."if any law enforcement tries to disarm you, do not comply. They are not real LEO's." That sh*t may fly in some states, but not Florida. Id imagine, not texas either.

Katrina was an example of so many things that people have said would "never happen in the USA". Seeing civilian police riding in technicals and drawing down on unarmed citizens. Gun confiscation. The entire Superdome fiasco, old ladies getting tackled like hardened ex cons etc... Anyone who says it can't happen here hasn't read enough history or paid attention to recent history. Hurricane Sandy has other lessons about things that "can't happen here". I'm not big on the whole "truck gun" concept UNLESS we are talking about covert secure storage in your vehicle. Something that securely stores your weapons and will stand up to a vehicle search.Their are a variety of covert ways to securely store weapons both in your vehicle and your home and you keep cheap examples in your gun locker or safe and use that as the sacrificial lambs in case door to door does become a reality again. An empty safe or gun room is going to draw more attention than some $400 AR with and Amazon special red dot on it that they can have and go about their way. A man's home should be his castle and our Rights shouldn't be the first thing to go when things go sideways. A lot of shoulda coulda. Know your history and if you don't know it just study how disasters are handled in this country. As far as full battle rattle and learning small squad tactics and that kinda stuff. It doesn't hurt to have those skills at hand. Right now its LARPing, it could be useful. Part of being prepared is learning skills that you may never practically have to use. Its like seat belts and fire extinguishers. If we knew we would never need them for our entire lives we could get away without having them or using them. Training to use your weapons outside of punching holes on the flat range is important. You don't know what you don't know until you do something other than punch holes in paper. Like how heavy your rilfe is with all that shit on it when you have to carry it around all day. Or how much a pain in the ass low slung pistol holster are and how they catch on everything.

A Glock is harder to shoot than a long gun. My opinion, worth what you paid for it, is if someone is saying "night vision and full combat loads are beyond most people," that person is unlikely to have 4 solid classes under their belts and 10,000 rounds through their pistol. And my opinion is that person is better off with a long gun. I've killed a LOT of stuff with pistols, rifles, and shotguns. My experience is it's a lot easier to get results under stress with a long gun (rifle or shotgun). Most people are not training enough with their pistols.
And one must consider the context. Once I moved out of an urban area to a homestead, I barely touch my pistols anymore. They just don't have the reach or the shootability of long guns and too many destructive pests have got away when I was using a pistol. So I have shifted heavily to long guns for any real use. But pistols are nice for CCW. That is true. I have a hard time stuffing a shotgun into my pants.

In an ideal situation for patrolling/everyday defense, I wouldn't be alone and we'll basically operate as a fire team, with: designated rifleman with a LPVO and an 18 or 20" AR, two or three riflemen with 16" ARs w/Eotechs and my buddy who has an M240, belt-fed. There's also an AR-10 in the mix and a 6.5 CM with good glass and a can (a .338 WM is available also).
Depending on the situation, that's a decent toolbox to dip into.
And now I'm hearing you say that a SHTF scenario is going to be like Katrina. I have news for you, gun confiscation during a disaster has been ruled UNCONSTITUTIONAL, so, unless you want to see a lot of dead cops, I wouldn't recommend trying that shit.
Yep. 9:38 in and I've had enough. Sell this crap to somebody else, cuz I ain't buying it!

I think people overestimate the amount of hunting they'll be able to do in a large scale SHTF. If food becomes scarce, people will quickly wipe out the local animal populations. Unless there's some event that rapidly eliminates 90+% of people or you live at least a hundred miles from the nearest city hunting is unlikely to be viable. I've talked to guys who think they'll be hunting deer in their back yard, like their neighbors don't all have the same idea... You need to make sure you have stores of food and water, somewhere they won't be easily found.

In 2021 we lost our property (log house, shop, haysheds, equipment, livestock, and 98% of the standing forest) to a wildfire and were subjected, first hand, to the incivility that followed. Days before the fire looters were running across peoples evacuated properties stealing everything they could get their hands on. Days after the fire they were back at it, pillaging houses that hadn't burnt, and going through the ashes of properties that were destroyed. When we got back to our land (600 acres about an hour from the closest city), we saw people everywhere, either gawking or pillaging. The cops who were called to blockade the access roads failed utterly and residents in several districts lost thousands in personal property.
In the years following the fire trespassers ran rampant, ignoring private property signs, cutting fences, tearing down signs and causing more damage to the already ra*ed land. They cut down the burnt forest on marked private land for their firewood, went waltzing through fences to pick mushrooms, and took off road vehicles onto explicitly marked property so they could get a closer look at the destruction.
That lead us to ensuring we were prepared to protect our property as we rebuilt. The items we found most useful were: thermal optics, night vision equipment, and cellular trail cameras. On more than one occasion we have had to use this equipment to identify armed trespassers/thieves before confronting them. The cellular trail cameras are by far the best purchase as they give you immediate notification as to activity and allow a quick and well informed response.
Our situation dictated that observation and identification was far more important than an overt armed response (which is frowned upon, if not illegal in Canada); however, we also found that daily live fire target practice, skeet events, and distance shooting with long guns was enough to keep returning lookyloos from nosing around too much (all use of firearms was legal as per Canadian firearm laws). Just something to keep in mind if you ever find yourself in a similar situation.

would this law not allow another Katrina issue occurring again?
US Congress enacted the Disaster Recovery Personal Protection Act. This law provides that no officer or employee of the United States while acting in support of relief from a disaster or emergency can seize a firearm that is otherwise legal to possess. The statute also provides for severe civil penalties for government agents that violate the law. The law also applies to agents of state and local governments if their agency received federal funding (so pretty much every police agency).

That'd be like the 101st dropping into France the night before D-Day dressed like the Waffen-SS. It'll be a good way to get got. That said, i do think we all need gear of some kind. There are tons of civilian market products meant for concealment and are easy to use that is just as good or better than what the military gets. Now i loathe the thought of fighting Americans in uniform, but let's be real here, we've all seen the videos many currently serving have put out. Omaha nebraska here, i work closely with law enforcement, there are times we have waiting hours for the police here only for them to not show up, and this is a big city, in small towns there is usually an hour wait for law enforcement if they show up.
When seconds matter, police are minimum minutes away.

BTW, they would never be able to achieve a gun confiscation here any time, let alone a disaster time

Our Constitution doesn't disappear in a disaster. WE HOLD A GOD-GIVEN CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT OF SELF-DEFENSE. PERIOD. IF THE GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES BREAK THEIR OATH, THEN THEY ARE THE ENEMY. NEVER GIVE UP YOUR WEAPONS!

literally every disaster the constitution has been totally trampled on. Just look at covid as the most recent example.
