It's pretty simple, if the player base puts enough pressure on them they'll have to change the system. We just need to keep on them to remove the chance for failure.

the difficulty/grind of leveling artifacts literally discourages new playstyles and breaks balance especially for new players. if they removed the ability to buy artifacts and made it less of a grind it’d be at lot better than it is now.
Even wirh double xp I can't believe how much it takes to level these up. I saved for 6 weeks thinking I could get 1 or 2 to 200, but nope. I got two to 160 but still had to buy a lot.

The devs have basically forced us to buy (and/or get from Dr. Fate) the Seal of Completion once you get past level 120/140. That means you need about 3 seals of completion per artifact (at 160, 180, 200). If you have 6 artifacts per toon, that's 18 seals of completion if you want to get them to 200. If you buy the 18 seals, that's about $68.50 PER TOON for just the completion seals (not counting the free monthly 500 DC 'bonus' cash or Dr. Fate).
The population is low. How else would you have replace this income stream with a low population base. The game already takes forever to come with new seasons. This a result of staffing and not over budgeting. If they don’t make this money content does not come even at the slow rate we are getting currently.
Enjoyed this one! Always very informative like usual :) Really appreciate all the work you do to inform the DCUO community. I got a couple rank ups on my healer artifacts and then got some of my DPS ones up too so far during the 2x event but I think I'm done for now. Honestly an easy fix as well is just some price reductions. Both for art catalysts and for alliances. The grind while tedious is tolerable. It's just affording all the extra crap that is so bad. Even seals. They should honestly at least be added to the daily rewards. We have so many extra days on the login calendar. They really should just add some alliances cats and seals to all those. Maybe for example 7 dionesium for f2pers and for members double that. Add in 5 seals for f2pers and 10 for members. With 1 seal of completion for frees and 2 for members. Especially for alts it's like. Why would i go out of my way on an alt when I'm still not done on my main right?

Thing is now they don’t have to chance the breakthrough system because it’s easier then ever to level arts. I raised 2 arts on my alt, one was 1-200, other was in the 140s to 200. Not once did I have to use cash for seals or nth metal. Dr fate had me covered, I had like 25 of the important marks so I just bought nth metals and seals, maxed those 2 arts and still have like 7 marks to accumulate for the next x2 xp

Allies, artifacts, CR levels will all eventually reach a break point. What are they expecting in a few years? 65+ artifacts, 30+ allies and CR level 700? What about in another 10 years? 100+ artifacts, 70+ allies, CR level 1500? 1500 skillpoints? No new players will play. Player retention are MMO’s bread & butter, why would anyone play when they realise what it actually takes to get to endgame and progress? Yes, MMOs are a grind, but it gets to a point where it becomes “eh? I have to spend real money? I have to get skill points to be powerful and some of them are locked behind more paywalls? I need artifacts and i have to pay for seals? Fuck this I’ll go play spider-man” How many whales are there in this game? This isn’t GTAO levels of whaling, I’m really surprised they’re even managing to stay afloat with the constant cash grabs, it’s becoming diablo levels of greediness, but without any actual content backing it. Can you make videos for "budget builds" using artifacts that are say 120 max and 160 max? Obviously they won't be on par with the meta, but curious if some elite content is still manageable. Not sure how high allies would be leveled in those builds. Thanks.
I'd say only real budget combo that works for Might without needing to go over lv160 is Solar, Trans, Grim. As for budget ally - House of legends robot.
If i wanted to fail consistently i would play BDO. But at least bdo has a failstack system. The more you fail the higher your chances.If there was that system it'd be a little less painful.
I'd also honestly like a 4th slot for both arts and allies. I went with Cyborg and DM Batman for my side allies. But i so badly want to add in Batman WLs once I'd get him. And i don't wanna give up my detaunt dodge roll cause it has saved me or a teammate numerous times. Granted the grind is so intense it's nuts. But i think it'd just help a ton to have 4 slots for each to allow at least more uniqueness in our builds. Cause with 3. Most people are running at least 2 of the same arts and allies. And the swap out is just too much of a pain and stuff. So allowing us to just have those extra slots i think would greatly help in a lot of ways. But i also feel that the drop in success rate for arts and the price of alliances need to be adjusted for sure. The grind is gonna be long either way. Hitting a wall that thick after all the grinding is disheartening for most players.
Also them being per character really doesn't feel good. They expect you to relevel the same arts just to play a different power. It kind of turns the free boost into them just looking for people to buy more art mats. I think I would be a lot more ok with the system if you could at least swap them between alts. I wouldn't be great but it kind of gives value to grinding the long game but if your power gets nerfed or you ever have interest in another power its another $600 to get capped again. I'll agree it is a lot better then it used to be but even to this day I only level arts to 80 because I can't be bothered to deal with the system past it.
From what I have seen the biggest tell is the 160 breakthrough with ZERO seals. People will see this lie, then dump more time/money into breaking the artifact through than simply buying a seal of completion. It's rooted in our heads to see that number at such a high rank with such great luck; so the naive will do it, thinking with every button push they are the lucky one. Back in the day on my main it took me a year to get one artifact up to 160, as I only used Loyalty points to buy things. I still only subscribe, but now Dr Fate takes care of the rest. These artifact/ally systems have been designed to fill the gap of the player subscription base that would normally pay for them and profits. At about 5k daily players (check any MMO site that tracks players in MMOS), all subs won't cover development costs etc. so another form of income must be found. I don't know the MMO number where that falls off, but say 100,000 subbed players means "we can haz" ALL this without paying for ANY of it. FFXIV Online has zero costs that affect play as the subscription base of 1.5 million people pay for it. You only pay for styles/mounts/glam there, and none of that affects play. We'd need a lot more players to remove these "features" or least get them as they were intended--to provide play we already paid for. We paid for the development of them with our subscriptions, so it is confusing why we are paying for them again. I say all of this because I run 12/16 toons and I'd like to play more than about 5-6 of them after subbing for years now. The one thing that has stopped me playing them effectively is artifacts. Since SP is over now, there really needs to be a better way of managing artifacts since they are the mainstay of the game. Thanks for the video!

I believe reason is in part speed hackers, they cannot get rid of then because that would implies re write all the combat game code and they dont know what will happen when they do so. If cheater´s can farm seal´s fast well... devs will stop getting money.

I always try to use a preservation at least once before going to the completion. I’ve actually gotten the breakthrough a couple times at 160, but 180 and 200 always fail lol
I get that they're greedy which is why they don't change these aspects of the game. But, wouldn't they get more active players if they made this kind of stuff easier? If progression was easier surely more people would play the game which would also mean more money for them.
I think it would be nice if they add some sort of dummy artifacts, since they can lock items by zone, kinda a special vendor on the sparring targets or maybe make the item expire after 5 minutes or so. While you do have the test server is kinda annoying to ps players to have also an instalation on a pc (i don't know if using a ps5 controller on pc is the same nightmare as it is to use a ps3 or ps4 controller, all hail the ps2 & xbox controller that windows recognize as a generic controller). The artifacts are trully painfull to understand for new players and for returning players, paying omg....too much. * And now the allies, at least none of the is a total and absolute need (yet).
i wish we could get the seals from contents or they add a new way to get them i mean like a and easier way cuz looking at the arts as the main dps and pretty much evedry role has to use them just like u said skill points are almost useless now ...... so we should be able to obtain seals in an easy way the fact how important they are !
Breakthrough system needs to be removed. They need to focus on the game being FUN!! Where we can explore the artifacts. Mix and match for fun! Literally can’t do that unless you dump way too much money into the game. It’s absolutely terrible. I’m sad about it.

I really don’t understand why so many of you complain about artifacts, artifacts doesn’t make or break the game at all. All you need is 3 level 140 artifacts to start being relevant and that is not a difficult accomplishment. And you can definitely clear elite raids with 160 artifacts if you have an understanding of how the game works. Level 200 artifacts is a luxury for hardcore players but getting there is not impossible, just play the game get nth metal detectors and put 5$ a month on a completion seal, sooner or later you will get your maxxed out artifacts.
They seriously need to nerf the STU B.O.P because no o e knows what there doing. Spent 2 fking hours and still didn’t have a group to beat the lvl fking BS !
Main reason I don't play DCUO anymore. Way too damn expensive. I don't understand why they need monthly subscriptions and they overcharge the shit out of everything. Greedy gaming company at its finest. Pay to Win or Pay to Participate. A good way around this would be daily and weekly missions that give items such as seals as a reward. It gets people playing content while rewarding them with valuable, QoL material that'll satisfy both parties. Could also add a currency system to feats from which you could purchase artifact related material. You complete a feat, get x amount of currency and artifact material can be purchased with it. Again, gets people playing the game, accomplishing feats as a group, while rewarding the players with something valuable other than gear we're just going to salvage If it's money they're worried about, then raise the subscription price by like $2. It's not a lot for an individual but that extra monthly $2 could generate a lot for the company so they don't need to overcharge market place items

Yeah, I always struggle to find usable loadouts on alts, because every build guide assumes you have 160/200 arts.

100%, the issue is that nearly every artifact apart of the rework isn't working correctly on test so can't properly show them :(

Breakthrough system needs to be removed. They need to focus on the game being FUN!! Where we can explore the artifacts. Mix and match for fun! Literally can’t do that unless you dump way too much money into the game. It’s absolutely terrible. I’m sad about it.

This is one of the reasons I don’t play the game anymore. Artifacts are such a money scam.
I really don’t understand why so many of you complain about artifacts, artifacts doesn’t make or break the game at all.
All you need is 3 level 140 artifacts to start being relevant and that is not a difficult accomplishment.
And you can definitely clear elite raids with 160 artifacts if you have an understanding of how the game works.
Level 200 artifacts is a luxury for hardcore players but getting there is not impossible, just play the game get nth metal detectors and put 5$ a month on a completion seal, sooner or later you will get your maxxed out artifacts.
Now a days everything is full of winers, wanting everything handed out to them for free and right away.
I just used 5 seals and it still failed

A 4th slot opens up a whole bunch of balance issues and could just make players completely op, even support roles

still get access to plenty of content as a free to play player. Slower to level arts/allies but if you enjoy dcuo there is plenty to do as FTP

Main reason I don't play DCUO anymore. Way too damn expensive. I don't understand why they need monthly subscriptions and they overcharge the shit out of everything. Greedy gaming company at its finest. Pay to Win or Pay to Participate.
A good way around this would be daily and weekly missions that give items such as seals as a reward. It gets people playing content while rewarding them with valuable, QoL material that'll satisfy both parties.
Could also add a currency system to feats from which you could purchase artifact related material. You complete a feat, get x amount of currency and artifact material can be purchased with it. Again, gets people playing the game, accomplishing feats as a group, while rewarding the players with something valuable other than gear we're just going to salvage
If it's money they're worried about, then raise the subscription price by like $2. It's not a lot for an individual but that extra monthly $2 could generate a lot for the company so they don't need to overcharge market place items
