I have to agree with Jenny here. From Florida and I’m inspired to convert my 2008 Honda Odyssey. I’m going to be traveling with my son who needs a car seat. So that will be the tricky part. I will take most of your ideas though. Thank you!

Couple of months ago I commented on one of your other videos I was thinking about doing a Dodge Grand Caravan. I was surprised to see you respond :D Well...I did it! I bought the van and am now in the final stages of the build. I'm a solo female traveler so being able to quickly exit and enter from multiple directions and access to the driver seat from inside the back was key for me when planning my layout. Tomorrow I will begin making the bug screens as you have. I have practiced sleeping, cooking, and just hanging out in it before I head off on a local test camping trip. Many redesigns came from that practice. Everything is modular and removable by myself. I am in California. I final plan is to head out, go south, east, north, west, then back home again. This will be van glamping compared to my 60yrs of tent camping and backpacking. Thank you for the clear and casual method you have presenting DIY videos. I love the no "overacting" and no sensationalizing. I have watched 100s of videos and come back to yours for the real deal of van life.

This is the single best playlist respective van conversions and practical considerations for living in vans. The best, bar none.
I’m a lifelong sailor, boatbuilder, and nomad between boats, vehicles, and backpacks. As such, it was music to my ears when you stressed the importance of ventilation. Anything that can be done to match the interior and exterior humidity will be more helpful than encouraging the disparity of interior and exterior temperature. Excessive interior humidity reduces the sense of warmth, but too many people are inclined to turn up the heater than crack all the windows and turn on fans. It seems counterintuitive.
The byproduct of heating with open combustion LPG is water: humidity. Yet, too many newbies grab an LPG burner and fire it up within their living spaces, not to mention the significant risk of explosion in the event that the gas leaks within the envelope of the boat, vehicle, tent... The only way to ensure minimal risk of CO poisoning, explosion, and excessive humidity is to either heat electronically via element, or a heat exchanger to ensure that combustion and gasses remain separate from living spaces.
But STILL, adjusting temperature pales in comparison to striving to match interior and exterior humidity by virtue of ventilation. Ventilation is certainly the cheaper of the two efforts.
I’m a new subscriber, located generally on the Columbia River in the Pacific Northwest of the US.

@@ericenjoysearth2756 , thank YOU! You’ve assembled a masterful series! I’m so sick of van builds consisting of stacked bins, blankets, and pillows that more closely resemble a childhood blanket fort, or those builds consisting largely of needlessly overweight dimensional lumber and recycled pallets that result in the appearance of a hand-hewn woodshed.
Less is more. I enjoy elegant design and execution. I’ll be recommending your playlist to everyone who expresses interest in van building and living.
I’ll be building out my Delica L300 as soon as I have it dialed in mechanically. In the meantime, I’ll replace my daily driver (Chevy Volt) with a Prius V which I’ll camperize specifically because of it’s inherent ability to control climate and ventilation by virtue of its hybrid “ready” mode. When I’m satisfied that my Delica is perfected for over landing, I’ll consider selling the Prius to finance more adventure.

Hello Eric, another good video. I am doing a conversion on a '94 Dodge TV top van with 39000 original miles on it and I am using several of your ideas to do it. I like your bed design, I raised mine because of having more headroom and I have added a board that fits between the side of the bed and the cabinets I installed so I can have almost full Queen size for when I am traveling with someone or using it as a mobile hunting cabin with a family member. I cut the long piece of the leftover mattress into 3 equal pieces and covered them with the same fabric and use them as pillows. On another person's page, his vehicle is a prius, I used his idea for the window coverings. coroplast in the center with Refletix on both sides and black fabric from Walmart that you attach with about a 1in overhang all around, that way when you put it in the window you get a really good seal that keeps light from going in or out. It adds quite a bit of insulation. I like using candle lanterns, I use a candelabra with 4 candles in it. I removed the candles and glued down 4 little glass liquor bottles that have metal lids, poked a hole through the tops, and added a wick and oil. It works great, burns a long time per fill, and you can choose how much light or heat you need at the time. I will be retired soon and spending a great deal of time in my van. there are 4 states I have never been to and there are plenty of fish, and crabs, and clams to catch, and mushrooms to find, and people to meet. I also like "Inexpensive Places to Live and Retire" videos and hope to check many of those places out. This next year, because of all the fires there were this year, the Black Morel hunting could be epic. See you out there.

That's so smart, will use your candelabra design! Nice to hear about the Dodge vans having a little more headroom. Still debating minivan vs Ram Promaster City or F150 Cargo Econoline...since I have a spinal cord injury I may be forced to do a smart van for practicality. Building out a huge, empty van even without high roof may be too much! Happy travels and greetings from Albuquerque, NM 😃

Hi, yes it's called a tv top because there is a space just big enough for a small tv and VCR in the front above the seats. The van came with a couch in the back that folds down into a bed that is way to small for me and 2 regular seats. I took those out. There is so much overhead storage in the front and back that I did not need to build much cabinet space. All my clothes go up there. I can stand up in there but not stand up straight. Just being able to stand to put my pants on and move around inside in a big plus. If you think about it, you only need to stand If you are doing a long cook and i do 90% of my cooking out of the vehicle. Or shower, I do have a shower tent and am making an hour shower , but after having a hip replaced i got used to sitting in the shower, so i found a folding pet washing tub and i can shower inside if i need to. I got a Bluetti AC 200 on the indegogo campaign recently for my electric needs. I haven't decided how much solar i want on the roof yet or how i want to mount it. Check this out, someone paid $100 a month for 10 years to keep this in storage. That is 3times as much as i paid for the van, $3900

I live in a full-size conversion van furnished with velour ceiling, walls, and shag carpeting. I believe the extra space and all the textile pile controls the humidity inside the van. I'm planning on installing a roof rack with a solid panel over my entire roof to shade my van 24/7 and to eventually mount solar panels. There will be ventilation between the roof rack panel and the van roof. The sun beats down on the roof and the van quickly feels like a hot attic in the summertime.

Hello again from the USA! I’m checking off the list you provided in this video, if possible. I put a layer of foam board panels between the reflectix and black cloth to increase R value, then tri-fold them to store. ☑️ My van has a sunroof and I designed a screen for it so it can be used with a small usb fan as a roof vent when the weather permits. I have the rain deflectors installed. ☑️ I’m working on window screens today and watched your video on those for ideas. ☑️ I will have to get some candles before winter.

So...I'm trading my cool Camaro/Black/Convertible for a Chevy Express 1500 Passenger!!! windows all around!!! and this video confirmed some crucial ideas perfectly man! Especially the visibility while driving. Been driving work vans forever, and my last... and current job, as a furniture repair technician, my van got chosen as the example as to how things should get organized and functional... I know I got this!!! my personal van, man I am excited!!!

    Hello Eric.
I have a minivan and am seriously considering/planning to convert my van into a TEMPORARY camper mode, such that I can eaisly convert from van to camper mode and back. I will be using your 11 Step plan for avoiding mistakes, as a template so to speak, for my van conversion. As the saying goes, I will follow and learn from the experiances of others. With many years of experience behind you in van conversions, I find your videos most interesting, informative and practical for anyone joining the van camper lifestyle. The tips about safety when driving(van layout) and the need to plan to make meals and convert from van to sleep mode while inside van are especially helpful. Thanks again for your videos and best of luck and enjoyment in your travels. By the way is it just me or does it seem to be a rebirth, so to speak of the van life/camper lifestyle that was so popular in the 1960's and 1970's? I am from Newfoundland myself.

Watch this, you will learn that you have to cut the upper part of the window covers:
      ua-cam.com/video/p7qh2hM4wDY/v-deo.htmlsi=4HuP5n1lg0uXWFwl
I put reflectix on 7 windows, there’s only the windshield that I use only a shade screen, only because of the size that would be to store it (if it was a reflectix one)… it’s a compromise…

From Florida, Your videos are very informative and educational. As a former driver for a living I like the way you focus on safety, especially since I can no longer drive the time or mileage that I use to, I can drive but no more 12hour days behind the wheel,my focus is on safety more now than ever being I no longer have the quickness behind the wheel and no longer driving a bus I don't sit above traffic and see trouble earlier than normal height vehicles.
From watching more than several of your videos I see the way you look at the road and even though your videos are about other things you usually throw some excellent safety tips in them. I wish more of the experienced drivers did this.
I bring alot of points up to my wife about how people block the rear, yes I understand they have backup cameras but alot of them are inadequate and only work when the brake is pressed on which is actually more dangerous. You also made a excellent point on not blocking any of the windows except for the driver's side( in the U.S.A.)rear window on a minivan. Some driving moves I see in videos make me very happy that I'm watching it on UA-cam instead of being on the road at the time. The thought and reasoning you put into the design of your projects is outstanding, thank you for giving us the benefit of your experience, and your design ideas.
