Hope your wife is alright. I've have a small fpv monitor from 20 years ago that's been great for quick, easy flight sharing in the field and parts testing. So mush less hassle not having to fiddle with goggles during repairs. Even put an fpv unit on my neighbor's rc crawler so he and his kid could have some fun using the screen and a pair goggles. You could see his 4yo face go from confusion to realization to mind blown 😂
I was big into drone racing in 2015 and i've been trying to get back into it after like 8 years and holy shit is it confusing. So glad to hear people still use analog video
I have all the video systems, and they all are fun, and have their place they work best. Dji is the easiest, and best pic, walksnail is cheaper, and fairly close to dji, HDZero looks great, open source, best all around goggle, and elrs link is also open source, and cheaper and has lower latency that crossfire, comes in 2.4ghz with great distance. Oh, and it's cheaper to buy bnf than building you're own.
Hi Stew, Great video and review of the Skyzone M5, this is a nice screen to look at, I have one question, can you mount it on a tripod ? I have a screen that I use when I'm at the park on a tripod for people can look at as I'm flying around. Best part is that it also has a faceplate. Thanks again for the video and information about this screen. Happy flying !
Yea it has a 1/4 inch standard mount on the bottom to tripod mount, but i don't recommend this, it's terrible, skyzone must have sent the influencers a totally different model, i bought mine from skyzone directly because i wanted the better dvr, but this has the same old garbage dvr everything else has had for a decade, what is in the screen looks far better then what it records, it also is much weaker reception then the steadyview x module, and has a defect that sd card doesn't come back out without a hassle, skyzone is also refusing returns in defective units, they have become a fraudulent company!
Is there anything like this for DJI?... I guess it's a stretch given it's all proprietary. I did try the digiview app a while back but didn't have greatest results... Although got to say, hats off to those guys for making it!!
It's funny I just got back into FPV after maybe 2-3 years away and I went to a spot where I'd probably flew hundreds of times before - 5 min walk from my house - and I got lost AF as well. Totally disoriented for about the first 5 packs and even after that I had to make a landmark to navigate. A couplka years back I could fly in between the trees and stuff and know exactly where I was.
Hey Stu, hope the family is ok. I've been using the HDZero goggles with the wifi module to share flights with family and friends. The wifi module transmits over wifi to a smartphone, pc, or laptop and plays back the goggle view to VLC player app. It's shows analog and both HDZero and Walksnail vrx. What I see in the goggles is what they see on their phone but with about a 2 second delay. I wish DJI made a vrx. But they don't. So I'll stick to analog and HDZero for micros and proximity flying and WSAvatar for the 5in and park flyers.
Hey stu..Hope all is well.. I did start my FPV journey with somewhat of a screen..(ROTG-01 + cellphone). then there was this cheap box goggle where you can insert your phone behind it. FPV sure came a long way.
I had another FPV monitor but purchased this one based on your recommendation. The problem I am having with it is the receiver module does not record the audio at all. There seem to be no way to adjust the sound output. Do you have the same issue with on the module you have? Thanks.
That does look like a pretty good little screen for letting others see what can be done with a quad, it could lead to others wanting to get into the hobby, which is a good thing. I had a good laugh when your mate tried to to fly line of sight, and then lost perspective while flying using the screen. I can sort of understand, because I remember when I first tried flying fpv looking through the goggles, it was so confusing at first.
Thx for the video stew. I'm glad your wife and kids are good. It's always a big fear of mine for my wife and kids to be on the road especially since all 3 of my daughters have been driving for a while now. Thx for the video man I love my skyzones . I'm pretty sure that it was one of your videos that sold me on getting mime. And the little 2 .5 " diatone fast little ripper . I've had to completely rebuild the thing and now the pid tune is way off. It flee better with a big 4 cell instead of these little light ones I have now. Idk if that's the problem or what but anyway. Always have liked your videos man so thx for sticking with it and helping me in this hobby.
It's indeed a great option to be able to show bystander what you are doing. 2 years ago I have build the FPV monitor designed by Oscar Liang and I have it with me all my flights and It gets used a lot, great solution.
I have a 5" Hawkeye monitor mounted to my radio which works OK for me. A cheap, simple digital receiver with HDMI out would make it compatible with the newer systems. I'm waiting for somebody to make one and then I might try Walksnail.
I always fly fixed wings that way, with a slightly larger screen attached to my radio, but multirotors are harder. I usually need goggles for those, even though I fly lie a granny.
Must have in 2024. NO WAY! It does not even have hdmi input!!! A monitor that does not have hdmi input that can handle high frame rate has nothing in to do 2024... still awaiting a good monitor with hdz or walksnail built into it and hdmi for the other system...
😂 I use screens like this specially when I'm working on the bench or when I'm getting a drone ready and I don't have my goggles on I'll have the screen sitting there so I can check my satellites and stuff
They don't have the better dvr as advertised... I got ine direct from skyzone as soon as they listed them, Mine records no better then what my crappy old fat shark goggles does, what us in the screen looks much better then what it records, which is why i bought it.... Garbage!
@@DigitalCruzer thanks for sharing. I don't use goggles. and the two stand alone DVRs I have are junk. I wish to find a good DVR. should we send messages to all the manufacturers and suggest they make a DVR? because so far no one has made a good one.
I got one these 2 weeks ago, i can't recommend this at all, its a big swing and miss, its really no better then any other diversity screen from the years past and lacks many important functions those did have. Plus mine came with the sdcard slot/trey not lined up with tho opening the case, skyzone admits that is a known manufacturing issue, and told me to go pound sand... so i had to disassemble the entire thing and cut the case opening to get my card to work as it should after that shitty company refused the return!!! So now mine looks like shit! Also the dvr footage is no better then my old fatshark goggles which gets better flyable range and penetration with my starfish d1 module, i bougt this for the DVR cuz everyone said its got the new better DVR, its shit! , i wanted something that records what is actually on the screen, this doesn't... Looks totally different, all grainy and distorted just like a fatshark DVR. I have a fxt viper v2 screen from my old goggles i broke the mirror in also, but it has a hdmi that works with Walksnail vrx well too and it has an av in and out so you can use it with a good av capture card. it also records the same in its dvr as this... I was just was very disappointed in this turd! Expected something much better from all the hype, but it has less important functions then the old screens that have been out for years. The one and only thing it has that the old ones don't is the mixer modes, but you can plug a mixer module into all the old screens for that, they missed the train, now i have to sell this at a loss and buy the HDzero version that looks like it may actually do what i expected

I have spend the money on hdzero goggles and the walksnail vrx yet i find myself mostly using the tbs fusion with analog the most. 😅

@JumpeFurby why is that?
@@RCOverKill crashes are cheaper. Less weight. Latency vs walksnail. Digital people around me have less interference it seems.
Looks good I have 18 drones and all are analog so I don't plan on updating them all as the cost would be too much.

G'daaaaaaay Stu! Love your videos, man. I'm a have to grab one of these!
Could you do a OLD FPV QUADS video of you trying the old quads you have on the wall?

Does anyone know if the receivers in this are better than the ones in the Eachine Moneagle?
How does it compare to the Eachine moneagle 5? I own this and use it for flying fixed wing. The screen quality is great but the range sucks.

The same video for HD (100fps 1080p HDMI in) would be nice
No HDMI input is a big swing and miss today on this device :/
stew when r u gonna meet up at fpv rebels in qld mate
what resolution does the DVR record at?
No better then cheap goggles, skyzone is a fraud company, i bought one for the dvr and received something totally different then i ordered...
I use the skydroid otg thing for this. It's really crap for flying because of the latency but it is amazing for spectaters
Try to run it full cycle on 18650. On CobraX 18650 was a failure.

The Inav lua script for edgetx is great for watching for satellites also on your tx screen. It also works with Betaflight.
Giddy up! wheres my lil man starscream? lol
800x480 monitor won't give you full resolution on PAL which is 720x576.
the 60FPS DVR is good for NTSC but I believe 50FPS would be ideal for PAL.

Another monitor. Earth shattering news!
This would have been great in 2018...
Needs HDMI input... Digital is far more common to just completely forget it's existence in a product
or use a phone with hd :P
