Interesting fact, Bo Burnham got into musical comedy because he was a big fan of Tim
Bo Burnham is almost nothing compared to Tim...
It's pretty clear that a lot of Bo's earlier work ripped off ideas from Tim. He's still great too though
Never knew that.
Bo Burnham is exactly like Tim, but without the musical or comedic abikity
@@paulmurrell1301Bo Burnham is impressively hilarious. So is Tim Minchin. It’s not a zero sum game.
You have to hear his Christmas song “white wine in the sun” … it’s the best. Always makes me cry in a good way
Almost agree: Prejudice my favorite.
It’s funny you say that as lullaby was written for his son and white wine in the sun was written for his daughter.
Jen, it always makes me laugh that one kid got White Wine in the Sun and the other got this song. I’m sure that’ll be discussed around the table at family gatherings in years to come 😂.
Talking of Tim, let us not forget he wrote the music and lyrics for the Musical Matilda. Genius is an understatement x
And Groundhog Day which will soon be coming back to the UK for another run
Love love love Tim Minchin.. u have to listen to rest of his songs. He’s a huge star can act, sing, play instruments, direct and produce etc.. he is extremely intelligent and comes from a highly academic family.. he wrote the music and produced Matilda the musical which was a recent smash hit.. he’s on an excellent drama show called upright in which he plays main male character and I read an article ages ago were Bo Burnham called Tim hes mentor and raved about him
Did he also do Beetlejuice?
@@becedwards575 Nah that was Eddie Perfect
@@becedwards575 No, but the Beetlejuice musical WAS written by another talented Australian, Eddie Perfect
The best speech I have ever heard was given by Tim Minchin as the guest of honour at a graduation ceremony at The Universitt of Western Australia. Well worth listening to.
I must have watched it a dozen times over the years :)
@@sueburn536 me too
I send it around on fb at the end of each year to help with the pressure of VCE
Also his speech to WAAPA students is equally as entertaining.
@@pennicooke2277 Yep, have watched that one several times, too! Love it!
Finally joined the Tim train! He's a bloody legend 🤣 there is a Tim Minchin song that you can play for your wife... If i didnt have you
👍 🤣
😂😂😂 she'd love it! 😂😂 If you think about it though, he's absolutely right...even if it sounds harsh. Lol
I love you, but you fit within a bell curve 😂❤
If this is on the agenda, make sure you listen to his explanation why it's not sexist & that "my wife made me this way." Also he has a lovely (serious) song about choosing not to stray out of his marriage, "I'll take lonely tonight".
@@kathydurow6814 try his beautiful song where he almost did stray...absence of you
Bo burnham actually talks about how Tim was a big inspiration to him and his material
I love his song “Prejudice “ because my Grand daughter is also one that is referred to in the song. She now helps those who have trouble relating to the outside world and understanding their place within society and how best to get on with their peers.
His speaking for every parent. Sleep deprivation is a breeding ground for wandering thoughts of harm.
Enjoy the Tim Minchin rabbit hole!. Would love to see you do a react to his song prejudice, it's always fun to see Americans react to that one.
Yes. Reaction video for Prejudice would be awesome
Given that Tim was one of Bo Burnhams inspirations, it’s no coincidence you make that connection
If you’re going down the Tim Minchin rabbit hole, look up “Prejudice”, “Storm”, and closer to Christmas, “Drinking White Wine in the Sun”.
One of our finest exports
Tim is awesome, his talent crosses over many genres, comedian, singer, musician, composer, writer , actor, poet. I don't think there's much he hasn't done, lot's for you to see and hear from him if you like. Thanks for doing this one, great reaction. ❤
Voice actor, director, producer and he is also the recipient of the 2021 Dawkins award which I highly recommend if you haven't seen it, it was a very enjoyable conversation between two men that I admire greatly.
Mate, songs like “Prejudice”, “inflatable you” are on repeat for me. He’s a genius.
Same, but add in 'The Pope Song' :)
As the tempo picked up you get a taste of his psychotic demeanour.😂
OMG I can't believe you're reacting to this. I Love a bit of Tim Minchin! He has many good songs. 'Prejudice' is his greatest song imo. And he has more talent on the piano than most people that have ever existed.
It's not, he wrote it in 10 minutes while sat on the toilet. Overplayed and overhyped and is the only song he regrets because it gets more credit than it deserves
@@jackwhitbread4583 no one cares what bs you make up and have to say. Go away.
@@jackwhitbread4583 True I really enjoy his most recent repertoire. From their more comedic songs I think You grew on me is definetly overlooked
Tim said he doesn’t really care for that song of his. It’s not a bad song but far from his best.
Look up the man's history as well. He has the most extraordinary wife and child. He earned his recognition. Just doesn't exploit his talent and has always been forward with helping people to love music and a good honest laugh.
Tim Minchin a musical genius! X
Other good ones to react to from Tim - Dark Side, Rock and Roll Nerd, If I Didn’t Have You, White Wine in the Sun (less comedy, it’s an Aussie Christmas song), Storm (not the animated version), You Grew On Me, Thank You God, Not Perfect (another less comedy, but still charming and witty), Inflatable You.
Oh also Confessions and Housefyre which he recorded and released with another great Aussie artist Briggs during lockdown.
Love Tim Minchin - problem is that his songs are so earbuggy that you'll end up addicted
Yes - 'our Tim'! Huge creative talent, big brain ,very funny, masterful use of irony. Brilliant pianist. The list goes on! Enjoy discovering more Minchin. 😃
Yes pls more from Tim Minchin
Legendary!! You were right with the pronouncication, "chin" like the one on your head
About time. white wine in sun another great song
Now try his song "Prejudice".
So glad you discovered Tim! He’s a genius and an Aussie!
Tim is awesome. I love his perfect delivery and his musical talent is phenomenal. I love "Storm" too and pretty much everything I've heard of his. There is always something deeper to his songs.
Hah was just about to mention Storm, my favourite right after Prejudice
Tim is a genius, love his work. He lives near our house in Sydney, so see him around occasionally.
I'm soooo glad you got to see this! I also emailed it as a recommendation to you.
I've seen almost every thing Tim has done over the years, and, honestly, he's a friggin creative genius.
From this old stuff, to his new (non-comedy but still quirky) stuff, and his TV show Upright!, plus musicals Matilda & Groundhog Day, plus Squinters, No Activity (season 1), and gorgeous lovely Back to the Outback animated kids film.
I'm always keen to experience what will come next ❤❤❤
Tim played as Judas in the stage production of Jesus Christ Superstar here in Oz several years back.
you are in for a treat if you keep reacting to tim. a few suggestions i have are "white wine in the sun" "you grew on me" "the pope song" "the good book" "thank you god"
There are hours of brilliant music and satire down this rabbit hole.
Come Home (Cardinal Pell) is worth a listen. Tim is an absolute genius
Happy Arvo Ryan, I mentioned this too ages ago! Finally! 👍😠 Perfect Lullaby for Ryan! 😆 Full of Toast and Vegemite! 👶 Love you Tim Minchin, and little Jace! 🤣🥰🫂👏
I adore this guy!!
Tim is a genius 😍
Suggestion: Watch “Upright!” Minchin (pronounced like its below your mouth lol) is great, along side a little known Aussie actor Milly Alcock (young Princess Rhaenyra in other known roles…) their show is great with chemistry but not mainstream
Tim Minchin is amazing, and he has so many great songs ❤
Tim is bordering on musical comedy genius.....some of his stuff is brilliantly hilarious!
So many great songs by Tim, both comedy and serious.
Lol my favorite Tim Minchin song it saved my sanity with my firstborn who was lactose intolerant and never slept 😂❤ Messed up but so true! 😂😂😂😂
Tim Minchin is a genius, his songs Thank you god, The Pope song, Storm (amongst others) are all brilliant.
Tim Minchin! Another amazing talent. He is a genuis with words and music and putting them together to send a message! His funny stuff is amazing - I love Thank You God, but his serious stuff is just so emotional and beautiful. Try White Wine in the Sun or, my absolute favourite, Not Perfect.
Tim is a master at saying what we think but in a way that is not offensive. He is a fantastic musician and comedian. Follow him down a great rabbit hole.
Tim is a brilliant comedian but an even better pianist. You have to watch more of him even if not to react to but just for a good laugh. He is actually not a bad actor either . He starred in a 2 season series called “Upright” check it out if you have the time.
Tim is an icon! Never noticed how much he looked like Shane until you pointed it out 😂
Love Tim! White wine in the sun, come back cardinal pell song, only a ginger, his musical of Roald Dahl's Matilda - such a talent! Please react to more!
Tim Minchin is the composer of Matilda the Musical. Very talented who got his first big shot at fame at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Very interesting character. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Minchin
Tim is a genius ... you must go further down the rabbit hole with him .... I promise you will not regret it.
Geez that's so freaking good! Pissed myself. Bloody legend!
Tim was born, not far from me , in Northampton , England. He is the composer of MATLIDA, THE MUSICAL. He has appeared on many British radio and TV shows.
Also an old school singing trio (from the 90’s) is DAAS- the dough Anthony all stars
You have to see if you can find
Sailors arms
Worlds greatest kisser
Gilbert and Sullivan
And for a seriously good ballad cover - throw your arms around me.
"If I didn't have you" by Tim Minchin is a great one to watch with your wife. ;-)
Check out Barry Humphries (Dame Edna, Sir Les Patterson, Sandy Stone). He was a brilliant performer who passed away on Saturday.
The guy behind Tim's left shoulder was having a great time 😂
Tim Minchin is fabulous!
OMG, you are about to go down the Tim Minchin rabbit hole!! He is beyond amazing! Prejudice and Storm are good starting points, but there are SO many!
Tim Minchin, one of Australia's best 🍕🌞☺️🦞🦜🐨🐾🍍🍉🦈🌈🏖️🐪🐍🍅🍌☀️🌝
Pleeeease do more Tim Minchin. He’s an Aussie legend. I’d recommend Storm (not the animated version, do the live version)!! So good!!
My favourite is Storm.
If you haven’t listened to him singing “prejudice”you must!
He is brilliant.
You have to also watch Tim Minchin playing his song ‘prejudice’ for some masterly misdirection, ‘white wine in the sun’ to bring tears to your eyes, a Tim Minchin university graduation speech he did a while ago now which is all over the internet, and his song about not being Elton John which I think from memory is called a name of a shitty car in Australia - ‘1981 Mitsubishi Colt’.
Tim Minchin is brilliant. One of my favorite songs is his 3 minute Song.
He is very talented. I saw his Groundhog Day musical on Broadway. You pronounced his name correctly at the end. Rhymes with "pinchin'"
Please do the Cardinal Pell song, I think it’s called ‘come home’. So clever & now it will be stuck in my head for days 😂😂
I've seen Tim twice live with my kids. He's brilliantly talented. This song killed me 😂 It's fantastic
Another of his songs is the Taboo song. You'll enjoy it, too.
I'm in south australia and I've never heard this before 🤣🤣 lol thankyou
Omg I’ve been suggesting Tim for aaaaages…..’Prejudice ‘ definitely deserves a listen
AT LAST! Now you have to listen to his song PREJUDICE. It's his early work but brilliant. ❤
I love the one he made calling out george pell. 🎉
I think his babies have survived & are probably close to being teenagers by now.
Tim Minchin is awesome
Check out Tim's "Prejudice." Pronounce Minchin exactly how it's spelled.
This reminds me of the go the fuck to sleep kids books 😂
He has written several Musical amongst other things!
No he has written the music and lyrics for 2 musicals.
If I didn’t Have You - Full and uncut version… definitely do watch with wife if she’s got a dark sense of humour.
Dark Side - Awesome Version… somehow even better than the version with full orchestra behind him
Not Perfect … Tim Minchin goes Zen
White Wine In The Sun… exactly how about 80% of Aussies think about and approach Christmas. It is rivalled as the Great Australian Christmas Song by the slightly sad and achey ‘How To Make Gravy’ by Paul Kelly, sung from the point of view of a convict in jail spending Christmas away from his wife and family.
love you work mate xx
I think you should watch his '3 Minute Song'. He would write songs just for his appearances on TV shows.
Thanks Angie
He had a big hit with Matilda but unfortunately his musical of Groundhog Day failed to repeat that success. His comedy and versatility make him one of a kind.
It won several Olivier awards and is coming back to London, America is not the centre of the universe. Groundhog Day is an award winng prestigious musical and did just fine and in my honest opinio is every bit as good as Matilda
It hasn't come to Australia yet.
@Jack Whitbread I was talking from a commercial perspective. Matilda has been playing in London's West End since 2011 and played on Broadway for 4 years. Groundhog Day lasted a mere 2 months in the West End and 5 months on Broadway. Hopefully the revival is a success.
You should watch it with Mrs Ryan 🤣
He’s brilliant
Man
There are many videos of Americans reacting to Tim Minchin's (min-chin) song "Prejudice"
You need to listen to this. Stick with it.
It is worth it.
Check it out and then look at other people's reactions.
I really hope you get a chance to read this. Please check out one of the live versions of a song called "Canvas Bags". It is epic. The best one is on the "chopchipfox" channel. The title of the clip is simply "Tim Minchin-Canvas Bags". You won't be disappointed !!
I'm not sure what my favourite Tim Minchin song is (it may be one of the ones from his recent studio album), but i think the best introduction to his work is "Rock 'n' Roll Nerd". Excellent subversion of the genre.
Listen to Tims " Storm" - absolutely brilliant
Please do more Tim Minchin reactions!!!
Fun fact. Bo Burnham was inspired by Tim Minchin.
Awesome react bro 🎉
If you love Tim Minchin playing this, listen to “White Wine in the Sun” I bet it will bring a smile and a tear to your eyes. He is a musical genius - do yourself a favour . He played Judas in the 50th anniversary of Jesus Christ Superstar in front of Andrew Lloyd Webber - amazing vocals.
Sorry to say but Bo Burnham is a budget Tim Minchin. Tim is a better comedian and musician. He now has 2 successful Broadway musicals under his belt, his stand up is top tier and he even has the Richard Dawkins award as a critical free thinker and is revered the world over. His serious music will put tears in your eyes as will his TV show 'Upright' that he wrote and starred in. He is an absolute treasure.
Have to disagree to a point, Tim's strong suit is as a musician hence why he hasn't released new comedy songs for over a decade, Bo is the better comedian but he can't touch Tim musically. My preference is also for Tim but he's not funnier than Bo Burnham. He's a successful and proficient pianist and composer and even his acting is far better than his comedy
@@jackwhitbread4583 obviously all opinion from both of us although just because he hasn't done comedy recently it doesn't mean his comedy is worse, he's just taking on more serious stuff for now.
Love you said his name right at the end.
Love Tim Minchin
Tim is awesome 👌 👏 👍
Tim is cool just grew up in the suburbs like most of us calls a spade a spade
Tim Minchin has a great repertoire. If you want to see his piano skills, watch "Darkside (awesome version)", if you want to marvel at his poetry skills and also want to see him take on esoterics, watch "Storm". If you want to learn some facts about religions, watch "Thank you god", "The Good Book", "The Pope Song" and "A ten foot cock and a few hundred virgins". You may have some prejudice about the song "prejudice".
Also great but hard to find on YT is "The Fence" as most versions you find doesn't include the introduction which is just as important as the song itself :) Though you can actually find just the introduction of The Fence, even with animated text: "The Fence Preface Kinetic Typography".
Also great are "inflatable you", "rock 'n' roll nerd", "not perfect", "So fucking rock".
As others have already mentioned "white wine in the sun" is also a classic, though doesn't really fit into the comedy category.
Songs I think everybody should have heard are: "The Pope Song", "Darkside (awesome version)" and Storm.
The reference to the dingo was Australian case in mid 1980s where a dingo took a baby out of a tent, mother was, sentenced to life imprisonment because she wasn’t believed. She was let out years later when evidence was found she was telling the truth. Lindy Chamberlain. Meryl Streep played the role in the movie. Evil Angels was the title here in Australia.
#1 Aussie Xmas song - Tim Minchin's white wine in the sun
Annnnnndddddd the Tim Minchin rabbit hole begins lol. Wait till he hears "storm" "thank you god" & "the pope song" 😂😂😂.
Also fun fact, Tim is responsible for all the music and songs in Netflix's Matilda.
