@@rockinmosquito I've heard that but in reality I doubt it. Bobby was the Buddy Holly fan, so it's more likely he wrote the song..

This from Kiln House wiki page. The citation is the CD booklet in the Kiln House CD release: "The song is credited to Buddy Holly's mother, who received the writing credit after Buddy's funeral from the original composer, Waylon Jennings.[3] "
That would be an interesting story if true and a wonderful gift of love from Waylon to Buddy's Mom.
