Thanks for the shoutout my friend, and good call with CVX! Also, I’m really glad you got to spend some time at the Bellagio while you were here. It’s cool to know we own a little piece of it through O 👏
I love ETFs. Ended up buying QQQM in my Roth, SCHG and some individual stocks in my brokerage account. I have a considerably larger position of SCHG, which are well managed.

Absolute hidden gem, and this is the time to buy. I am dca'ing into the goal of 30 shares, got 17 so far. You're right, all the talk and wishing that "big oil" would just die is bullshit, just like the talk around smoking. Secular decline can persist for a long time vs. profitability. Keep on, keeping on!
One of my best performing stocks, in both capital appreciation (tripled) and dividend growth (doubled) the last 4 years, is the Canadian oil producer Canadian Natural Resources (CNQ).
Thanks, Ian. Have been buying CVX over the last week. Great to see your thoughts on it. Always gives my confidence a boost when I see you doing the same thing!
Exxon mobile was my greatest purchase during the pandemic. I bought it when it was in the 60's and now its like 115 a share lol. Might grab up some chevron. Thanks Ian 😁
my only pushback is that if your long in energy, then from a diversification perspective do you really need to add another oil major. But they're both great investments. I'm long XOM so I don't feel any need to add CVX. I also really want to add JPM when it's not so expensive, and if I'm lucky enough to do that I won't buy any other major banks.
I put nearly 20% of my portfolio into XOM when it was in the low 30s!! I saw the CEO basically guarantee that the dividend wasn’t going anywhere and I bought as much as I could for a 10% dividend payout! Dividend at the time was around $3.40 at the time and now it’s $3.80 and rising! One of my best investments to date!!
Ian, long time viewer and now subscribed. Felt compelled to expound on some aspects. I bought a large chuck of CVX at $70/71 back in October 2020. I think XOM is the better company right now but CVX value is better. Energy stocks have gotten hammered because of recession fears. However! Since the Fed is going to start lowering rates, that will benefit all commodity related stocks regardless of a recession. So CVX share price should appreciate or, at a minimum, not fall much from these levels. In addition, current world political issues (Gaza/Israel; Red Sea safety; Ukraine/Russia) could escalate oil prices at any time. The one concern I have with CVX is the situation in Venezuela potentially impacting CVX production levels (and its profit levels). CVX, much like Altria, has promised to pay shareholders so I am looking forward to continued dividend increases. Appreciate the video and hope you pick some up. Good luck to all of us!
WHR still has high debt levels and I don’t think the imminent rate cut is going to affect the problems of having to manage refinancing of that debt at much higher interest levels. I have a small (~10 sh) position.
Best investments I've ever made were my big oil purchases in March 2020. It was extremely difficult to pull the trigger because it felt like the world was ending but I was able to find some courage and pulled the trigger! My only regret is that I didn't buy more! I don't like to boast about my good decisions because I've made bad ones too but I this was indeed a success story to share... I just checked and my average buy price on CVX is $79 and XOM is $42, and I purchased a lot (a lot for me anyway). I've reinvested dividends since day 1 and these have snowballed very nicely. My plan is to never sell. God bless, Ian! Thanks, buddy!
As usual great dividend minds think alike! I have been adding CVX for the last week or so. LYB is another oil related company (mostly Chemicals & Plastics) I have been adding to lately, juicy 5.7% yield. Thanks for staying up late, wishing you and your family a relaxing weekend!
Thank you so much for sharing, my friend! That is awesome, and I love to hear that you are thinking the same. Will take a look at LYB. Wishing you all the greatest, and a fabulous weekend too! (Disc: I'm long CVX)
I appreciate the commentary. I recently read a wonderful book on MOAT's and the energy sector is such a hard one to analyze from my perspective. I am in firm belief that these companies including Chevron are not going anywhere in the near or even distant future, but I still choose to just get my energy exposure through various ETF's. Thank you for the insight again and all your hard work you put into these videos.
Yes! I added to my Chevron position earlier this week. Good to buy these cyclicals when they’re down. I also bought more LNC (undervalued, but risky life insurance co) and BMY
My portfolio doesn’t just cater to dividend stocks. I hold $VFIAX (S&P 500 index fund) in my Roth IRA and $VTI (Total Stock Market ETF) in my taxable brokerage account. Two of my largest holdings. The individual dividend stock positions all complement the index holdings.
Thats when you hire someone to manage your money. You need a (CFP) straight up! personally, I would invest in ETF's and also love investing in individual stocks.
I took charge of my portfolio but faced losses in 2022. Realizing the need for a change, I sought advice from a fiduciary advisor. Through restructuring and diversification with dividend stocks, ETFs, Mutual funds, and REITs, my $1.2M portfolio surged, yielding an annualized gain of 28%.
‘’Aileen Gertrude Tippy’’ is her name. She is regarded as a genius in her area and works for Empower Financial Services. She’s quite known in her field, look-her up.
I'm a big fan of energy and was buying from 2019 at $75 all the way down to buying at $33 during the pandemic. I sold all energy stocks in 2022 and waiting for a time to buy in again. I really want to wait for a recession to hit and then will buy. Although I bought a little bit to hold through the volatility too.
Ian, 6 months ago I wanted to add one more British company to my world stock portfolio and I came across a small insurance company, Chesnara plc (CSN), which offers a dividend of 9%. I have been accumulating shares for 6 months and what I like about this company is that the share price is rather stable over this period (between 250 - 260 pence ) and that, icing on the cake, this insurance company increases its dividend each year. Additionally as you know, in the UK, there are no taxes on dividends so 9% are 9% before taxes in your country. Since you are looking for a high input yield, I share my discovery with you... 😊
Well-timed video covering your investing philosophy and process! Buying into quality companies when their sector is out of favor is a wise strategy for all investors of individual stocks. Thanks for sharing your journey with us...
I've taken a different path with this. Instead of adding stock, I've been adding VDE. I agree, in thinking the sector is showing some signs of short term weakness. Then again, I could be wrong.
Yeah - no one is watching energy. Great video! XOM, CVX and if you are a bit more risk tolerant to wait for nat gas turnaround- DVN is a great one! I own these.
I bought XLE around $80 and then sold around $90 when OPEC cut production thinking that they did it to stabilize the price and it reach the top. The price still increased some but now it's done to $85. I'll consider buying at a lower price.
EPD has tremendous tax benefits too, in a taxable brokerage account. At its current yield, your first 14 years of distributions are treated as a return of capital. If held until you depart this vale of tears, your heirs get a step up in basis and the whole process can begin again.
Hey Ian. Cool seeing you buying CVX, as I just purchased some this morning. What do you think about UPS, USB, and HESM? The numbers look appealing, but I was wondering if you have reviewed their information. Thanks.
CVX is down a little bit, but compared to a 100 or 200 day moving average, it is still expensive. Especially when money markets yield 5% with virtually 0 risk. I might get excited with CVX at 120$ and >5% yield. otherwise meh.....
🗽 Oil is getting agai more interesting over the next months. Oil is correcting because of pricing-in the coming recession. The same I would assume for commodities. .
I own cvx too. Great video Ian. I love your insight on cvx. My take on why cvx is down. Too much supply. Why too much, it could be that we need the price to be low given what is going on around the world right now. Who benefits from low oil price right now? But as investor, I have to ask, will oil prices go back up? Or will price go even deeper down? I don’t know. I just have to be patient I guess
@@ppcianEPD is an MLP so it Carrie’s with it a K-1… I had held it in my retirement accounts which was a mistake, and sold it for MLPX (which holds many MLPs but does not have a K-1)
I love EPD. One of my largest positions, one of my father's largest positions also. My accountant does my taxes, I deal with two K1's, piece of cake for his software, charges me $40 more. Taxes are deferred on the distributions if reinvested, being a midstream partner, EPD's price is not affected by the price of oil. So many benefits, don't let the k1 scare you away!
@@photomanual01 No, but newer investors should be aware of MLPs and the tax implications they carry… and that holding them in a tax-advantaged account is a mistake.
I'm surprised you're finding value in CVX right now. Unless there is some event that will drive up the price of oil in the near future I think the energy sector is overvalued.
He started buying it in early 2022 for 55 and now it is 51 so he has been losing for the whole time just like he did with vz, ibm, teva, hpq, nov, kmi and the rest of them all.
No poker for me! I spent all my money there on experiences - dinners, show, pool cabana, etc. No money budgeted for gambling. I like to save what I can for the stock market! Wishing you all the greatest! (Disc: I'm long O)
@@ppcian Yes, if you play poker very seldom, it is more gambling and luck with the hands and you cannot play many hands. Poker is a strategy game of big numbers. You have to play a lot of hands, to be profitable AND you have to play very well!
Chevron for whatever reason is one of the top hedge fund traded stock. It should go well for a while. But the gains cannot be counted on. There are several big dogs that one could buy.
Thanks for sharing. For me, I'm purely looking at it as a yield play. The starting yield meets my criteria and dividend CAGR is fabulous. Perfect opportunity to add income that I can use to pay bills, without having to worry about a huge drawdown during the next crisis. I'm not as much concerned with lack of equity appreciation, but I also understand I'm just speaking to my own situation and others look at it differently. When you zoom WAY out, it's hard to beat CVX in terms of total returns for this sector. (Disc: I'm long CVX)
I have SU, ENB, ENS, PPL, TRP, and NFX, on the Canadian market. Wish I bought OXY ~three years ago when it was at $20..but did not. Anyway; ya, some people have told me "I can't believe you own that!" I'm not sure that small investors owning an oil stock means you are a climate science denier or against green technology. Driving my SUV probably has more impact on the earth than owning theses stocks do. I expect these stocks to be cyclical. Eventually this industry will go the way of the dirigible industry, and we will probably be better off for it, unless we have not replaced it as the best source of energy ever discovered...but not yet. I have BEPC as well; the good guys!
Have been holding CVX for about 6 months. I have added a bit more. Now that you have added to your portfolio, I will add more. CEIX is also at a great value.
Shouldn't you ask the following question first? Are we currently in a bull market or a bear market? If we are in a bear market, then DCA over about 1 year. If you are in a bull market, lump sum in immediately.
Oil industry is being disrupted by EVs and renewables. Gasoline sales peaked in 2017, ICE car sales in 2017 and new ICE car market already shrank by 20% and is facing exponetial growth of EVs. Demand for gaseline will go slowly down till 2030 and than will starts to plummet fast. In other words your oil investments will be wiped out in 10 years or less. Dow coal index dropped by 96% in a decade and now its time for big oil. Invest in the future and in disrupted technology with will be obsolete by 2030.

What do you think about UPS, USB, and HESM? The numbers look appealing, but I was wondering if you have reviewed their information. Thanks.
For oil stock sector, how do you view PSX?
I am not a dividend investor but I agree. Energy looks cheap right now.
Thanks!🎉
Thanks! I appreciate your support!
Bought some CVX last week, thanks Ian!
And what do you think about PEP at this price? I know you love it!
CVX is down a little bit, but compared to a 100 or 200 day moving average, it is still expensive. Especially when money markets yield 5% with virtually 0 risk. I might get excited with CVX at 120$ and >5% yield. otherwise meh.....
Thanks for sharing! (Disc: I'm long CVX)
🗽 Oil is getting agai more interesting over the next months. Oil is correcting because of pricing-in the coming recession.
The same I would assume for commodities.
.
Thanks for sharing! I do agree that oil could become even more interesting in the coming months!
Yes, God bless the oil stocks. I am also looking at PSX, DVN, and UGI
Love the oil stocks! Wishing you a great weekend!
I bought CVX this last week.
EPD dividend is 7.14% with an 80% payout ratio
Thanks for sharing! I don't know too much about EPD, but I have heard nothing but good things about it from the community.
@@ppcian EPD is LP so you have to deal with K1 form. For this reason I decided against.
Have you compared CVX with BP, and SHEL?
Yes, back in the day. But, it's probably overdue to do this again. Wishing you a great one! (Disc: I'm long CVX, BP, and SHEL)
BP looks good at current levels
Thanks for sharing! I do agree the yield on BP is looking enticing. (Disc: I'm long BP)
I'm surprised you're finding value in CVX right now. Unless there is some event that will drive up the price of oil in the near future I think the energy sector is overvalued.
Thanks for sharing! (Disc: I'm long CVX)
Thanks for your insights too!
Hasn’t buffet been buying oxy?
He started buying it in early 2022 for 55 and now it is 51 so he has been losing for the whole time just like he did with vz, ibm, teva, hpq, nov, kmi and the rest of them all.
🗽 Belaggio.. did you play poker in the casino? 🤨
.
Really loving the shares I bought at $66 back in 2020
Legendary move! (Disc: I'm long CVX)
What do you think about cars industry? Volkswagen, BMW, Stellantis? Does it make any sense for you?
Auto industry is in terrible long term trouble.
look in to XDTE and QDTE good total returns
Chevron for whatever reason is one of the top hedge fund traded stock. It should go well for a while. But the gains cannot be counted on. There are several big dogs that one could buy.
With the oil prices heading down over the next 12months wouldn't it be better to wait for the next leg down😊
Ian are you tracking whats going on with $MPW? Its going bonkers and all the ‘bag holders’ are euphoric 🎉 #LongMPW 🥇🙏
Hi Ian!
Hi, Rick! Thanks for your support!
Chevron +15% 5 years during a oil boom. That is incredibly weak, even with dividends added.
💪🔥
Thanks for your support!
Ian! I’m buying a ton of BIG oil stocks! ❤️🚀💎🙌📈
Right on! Thanks for sharing, Kevin!
Have been holding CVX for about 6 months. I have added a bit more. Now that you have added to your portfolio, I will add more. CEIX is also at a great value.
KMI...not a MLP and no K1
Thanks for sharing!
