Al's Samson Expedition XP115A active DJ speaker review

My first active speaker review of 2015! At 300$ a piece canadian (cheaper in the US), the Expedition XP115A is a great beginner speaker that sounds good (even better with a little EQ applied) and gets loud enough for most smaller parties/ venues. The weight is extremely low at 33lbs considering this is a 15" powered speaker, but its small size (barely bigger than the XP112A) does affect its deeper low frequency response which is decent, but could be better. The HF driver is also pretty good, but isn't as detailed or smooth as more expensive active cabs. At higher levels the sound can get a little harsh / raspy? Anyway, for 300$, the XP115A will certainly make many new DJs and musicians very happy. A better choice than American Audio's ELS-15A in terms of output and sound quality, I will have to give American Audio another chance with their new CPX series that looks like a good step above the ELS. I feel bad for always dissing the ELS-15A, but it really is one of the poorest performing/sounding active speakers I have ever tested. :-) Anyway, maybe in a future review...
