- Adam comes face to face with one of the original hero helmets from Ridley Scott's Gladiator, worn by Russell Crowe as Maximus in the movie's epic Colosseum battle scene. It's an iconic piece of costuming from one of our favorite films, and Prop Store's Brandon Alinger walks Adam through its little-known details and lets us get up close to its magnificent visage and paint finish. An unbelievably beautiful piece of film memorabilia!

do you know where this helmet is now? how much did it sell for?
Fun fact: this is the mask that MF DOOM's mask is based on. Folks think his mask is based on Doctor Doom since he constantly would reference the character in his music, but he ended up just picking the Gladiator mask because there were high quality replicas available at the time when he was developing his masked character. So it was just serendipity.

Always a treat when Brandon comes to visit, and this is an awesome piece. Absolutely iconic.
That's crazy. I watched Gladiator last night. I can confirm Maximus' armor does slowly evolve new art/characters as he evolves as the Gladiator.
Absolutely one of the greatest movies. The helmet looked beautiful

Although I'll probably never even think about doing this one...I'm sure all us replica-builders appreciate the close-up footage and detail we get to see in these episodes (Thanks Norm!).
Commodus’ armors throughout the movie have to be some of my favorite on-screen costumes in anything.
His armours are amazing, especially the white-ish set. So good.

MF DOOM actually made his mask from a replica of this mask from the movie. Just took off the face plate.
I'm embarrassed to say that I slept on MF DOOM, I will be checking his back catalogue and story asap, every day is a school day.

I’ve wanted a replica of this helmet FOREVER! I’ve looked everywhere for a legit replica. There’s lots like it but are all missing some detail that I notice. Detail is very important when it comes to replicas. Back on the hunt!
That is way cool! You can just about see Russell Crowe's facial features looking out from inside. And the cool thing is that recently I've stumbled across some clips from Gladiator (now including this video) that have got me thinking about watching it again. :-)

My favorite movie too. It was also one of the first DVD movies I got back when dvds where new and starting to gain traction. This is like wayyy back in early 2000s

Just got mine from Ebay, 18 gauge steel with leather inside and chinstrap -$55 made in India. It's worth it. One of my and my brother's favorite movies growing up!
I love the paint job. There’s even slag marks from where the spikes where added.

Maximus wears it when he first fights in the coliseum. And he takes it off when he reveals himself to Commodus.

A few years ago Russell Crowe famously sold off some of his props and costumes. He actually used some of the money to buy a friend of mine an oxygen machine. I think he originally did it anonymously but I guess that sort of thing is hard to keep quiet. Quentin died not too long after so I hope the machine went to someone else who needed it.

Gladiator is among the man-law movies in that when channel surfing, if you run across it, it must stay on and be viewed until the credits roll.
Watched Gladiator last night, jump to 1:22 (one hour 22 minutes) and take a look at the brief moment of Maximus looking screen left at the bottom of the ramp before running up into the coliseum... the damage to the crest looks like it matches.
I'm going to have to get some serious weathering done on my extremely sharp shiny steel replica!
Might even let the kids bash it here and there! 😁

I’m not convinced that Brandon is slowly burning here.
In all the videos I’ve seen with him and Adam together, he has given every indication that he considers Adam to be a peer in the prop enthusiast market, and that Adam is one of the few public personalities on UA-cam that will properly appreciate and give all due consideration to care and handling of the props in question. Note that Brandon was the one to open the faceplate slightly so that the helmet could be taken off the stand - I don’t think Adam would have done that.
Sure, it’s an advertising gig, but it’s also a chance for two prop geeks to get together and fan boy over the latest things on the block.

Nick Cave wrote a screenplay on spec for a Gladiator sequel... he called it "Christ Killer", and you can find the obviously unproduced script online - it's a wild ride to say the least!

Some of them are. Have you any idea how many movie props exist and how much they sell for? Museums are a tiny part of the movie prop preservation movement. This is a wealthy private collector's market.

You don't notice it in the movie, so its fine. And a movie propmaker shouldn't do anything more than necessary. I guess this is a running an jumping prop? So this isn't a criticism, just an observation; But in this clip the helmet absolutely doesn't look like metal. Which just shows the craftsmanship of everyone working on that movie.
