@@niallocallaghan5883 why such a harsh comment about Al? He has never claimed to know everything. He is trying something new and he is more than likely gonna make mistakes. He knows this. It is none of our business how Al chooses to do things. He is kind enough to bring us along so we can see the process and maybe he thinks that by watching him, those of us who are trying to learn the technique he is doing, will not make the same mistakes as he may be making. Don’t be so hard on Al. This journey belongs to him and his family. We are simply viewers who have been invited along for the ride. So sit back and enjoy . God loves you. @@niallocallaghan5883 well then, just don’t watch Al. We all do things differently and Al is no different. He tells us he is new to some of the things he is doing. Having that much trouble with Rock, I would dig two trenches all the way down where you need to be set your pulls then fill the trench back in you could put concrete around the each pull. I believe once you fill it in and by next spring it will be solid enough. Drilling in that rock is not going to get it. You'll continue damaging more poles.

Good idea. You could also add rebar to the trench between poles and then when you pour just enough concrete at each pole's locatdion with the rebar it willfurther strengthen your structure. It ain't gonna go anywhere!

I hate to say it, I really do,but, when you first brought those screw in anchors home I knew you would run into this. Just way to many rocks up there. You might want to think about pouring a concrete slab then anchor post brackets brackets to it and build treated wood frame for your panels. The weight of the slab should keep the panels from bowing around in case of high winds. Just a thought. 👍

Goood morning Lumnah's and friends. October is almost here which means cooler temps. I don't handle heat too well, so loving the autumn! I hope everyone has a wonderful awesome day today or night, wherever you are!

Hello from Waxhaw, NC. Al, I'd use a "stone drill" to drill through or at least into those rocks at least far enough to use the stone as my anchors. Say, what ever happened to using the "container" living quarters? I was looking forward to seeing how that worked out for you guys.

It might be beneficial to use the auger bit to start the holes so you can drop the earth screw into the drilled hole. Set the depth to the point where the screw threads will be totally engaged in the bottom of the hole. Less friction to screw, stable hole to hold or strait, the auger can move some of the movable rocks out of the way for the screw. Just a thought.

Al, you are a perfectionist, that's why it upset you. It was worth a try. I've never seen a man work as hard as you do. I have confidence that you will find a way.
Love your videos and your sweet family
God bless you in all your endeavors!

Believe it or not, I have a project that HAS to be done today that I'm a little freaked out by. I found that by watching your video and seeing even you struggle some, it encouraged me to try and not quit. There is always a way! Thank you and blessings to you all.

2 suggestions 1st one would be to pre drill the hole 2nd move the post from the rocky end down to the other end

Yankee Ingenuity is a necessity for building an off-grid homestead. Al's got that in spades. I was thinking, maybe try to predrill the holes so you have a better idea of where you'll have problems? At any rate, I know you'll come up with a solution. 👍

    Good Morning Al,
That's a lot of rocks. I'd be frustrated too. Might have to dig out your holes and set in concrete. I wouldn't of wanted to do it that way either, but without failure, we couldn't succeed in the terrain your in. I like that attachment to your backhoe. I need to set about 100 fence posts myself. Showing your daughter how to overcome failures to succeed is also pretty awesome. I never see you loose your cool.

Good Tuesday afternoon Moose Crossing ... looks like you need a drill like they used to make/anchor Boulder Dam ~8^) Best of luck in the rock garden. Take care AL, Gina & Olivia.

You have the equipment all there, dig 2 trenches and put your post in and backfill them with fill, use your own less the rocks and a couple of loads of good fill. You could dig some fill out around the property lots of land there.

Buy an auger that drills through rock! Some augers at the tip allow you to screw in the attachment that allows you to use a regular auger to drill through rock.

We live in the granite state. I can't drive a stake in the ground more than a foot without hitting a rock. Never mind 5 feet. Love your channel. Keep up the good work

I am not quite sure, but Ground-Penetrating Radars might come handy for detecting rocks in the ground before drilling it.

You may want to buy or rent a rock drill for the excavator :P
or do a pilot hole with a smaller auger bit?
