I've had this amp for about a month and it has seriously made me a better player. With a low watt tube amp, you can really learn how to ride the point of "breakup" as you play. My dynamics and the way that I hit notes with my pick hand have totally improved.
Great amp, don't listen to the people who will say you HAVE to upgrade the speaker, or get the handwired version. This amp sounds awesome right out of the box.
Ian Dorto It is a great amp for both clean and dirty tones. The only knock I have is that it does not take pedals very well, especially with a Les Paul. That said, you don`t need much more than the clean and dirty sounds it provides.
CC C yeah, the ac15 does not have much clean headroom which makes it not so great for pedals. I got the ac15 because I love vox tube amp drive and Im not a "pedal person".
Ive owned that amp for 4 years, and ive never been able to play it "cranked up" with both master and top boost on max. My neighbours would call the cops...
The JMR Experience lol I bought it because I thought... Cool!!! A small enough gigging amp. I've never been able to turn it up past nine I clock, about 3 on any other volume knob, without the band complaining. I'm not able to get into the GOOD stuff on the amp like that lol it's dynamite in a small package for sure
You guys always have the best reviews. Mainly because the guy reviewing it, isn't trying to be a douche by over showing intelligence and playing ability. Just keeps it all strictly relevant to the amp.
I absolutely LOVE this amp. I've played guitar for almost 30 years and owned some legendary amps during that time (Music Man HD-150 half stack, Mesa Boogie rectifier, Fender Twin Reverb, Roland JC120, Marshall half stack and more) and honestly this Vox is one of my favorites of them all. It is perfect for home recording and playing smaller live shows because it breaks up beautifully even at lower volumes when you want it to. And the reverb and tremolo built in is a great plus as well
+kenwalker5280 The amp is amazing. I don't care for the reverb, but it's usable. It just doesn't have much character or something. It's sort of generic and digital sounding. I use a Carbon Copy set low with some repeats.
I replayed that bit at least 10 times because I couldn't quite figure out where I knew it from. Was so impressed with myself when I finally placed it, then scrolled down and your comment is the second one I see >.< Dude works some pretty eclectic shit into his demos. Makes him much better than the majority of guys who seem more interested in showing off their skills than the gear.
sordidsentinel It took me two listens to recognize it myself. :-) BTW: I bought an AC15C1 last Thursday and after playing it for four days, I'm extremely happy. This amp sounds beautiful and it's surprisingly LOUD for only 15 watts. Tube watts are very different than solid state watts and this amp screams...not to mention can drive two extension cabinets as well.
I own the ac15c1 and i actually bought it over the hardwired. that being said, price as well as function were the reasons. Don't get me wrong, the hardwired version is fantastic, but i couldn't justify the extra dough when this one sounded soooooo good. that greenback is a real winner. and even better, you can get a celestion blue in it and then it reeeeeally shines 8)
I've had this amp from new for 3yrs now. It's always sounded great. One of the stock tubes started to crackle, so I easily swapped them all out for NOS Mullards - warmer tone all round. I get great sound from both my Les Pauls & my Strat. Current favourite boost/overdrive through it is a J Rocket "Archer". Broad range of genres can be played through this amp. I'll never sell it
+Daren Ashdown I just got my Archer & it is a fantastic pedal. I've used Mullard EL84's in my Tiny Terror & they do sound great but I just got some tubes from my friend in Hungary. The Tungsrams sound wonderful in my Orange amp.
I just got one and brought it home. I will be practicing at church tomorrow and cranking it on Sunday.........yeeeahhh!!!!!!!!! I love this amp. I almost got the Egnater Tweaker a great amp in it's own right but I don't want an amp that can sound like a Vox. I want a VOX and now I own a VOX!!!!!!
I just received this amp from PGS yesterday, and after a 3 hour test run I must say I'm in love. I'm really liking the onboard reverb and trem. So many tonal possibilities and all of them good. Kudos to Vox for developing this amp.
In my opinion, the AC-15-C1 is THE perfect amplifier; I've played through one a few times (I don't have one yet, but I'm saving for one; I've played Strats, Teles, Les Pauls, SGs, a Flying V, a BC Rich Mockingbird, a couple of Ibanez guitars, a vintage Vox guitar, and I even played a Carvin guitar through it once). It sounds great clean, even better over-driven; by the way, nice rendition of "No Matter What"!
@speedRickspeed - I'm not sure I understand your question. Are you concerned that it's not loud enough at 15 watts? It's plenty loud in person, and any amp can be used live as long as the venue has microphones and a decent PA.
Just tried one of these out this weekend. It was awesome, if you're looking for a nice tube amp with good looks for a decent price, this is a great choice. When I have the money to purchase a tube amp, this one will be the first one I'll go to.
This amp is great value for money. I mean, $599 for all tubes with that kind of overall sound quality and nice trem and reverb effects? Hard to beat for sure! The Hughes and Kettner Statesman at $300 more has much more sparkly cleans and more headroom (40-60 watts), but not the crunch of this baby. Vox is totally on to a winner here.
i dont know why people say its for "small gigs" i use it with my band, and we have played at venues for around 1200 people... never had a problem... at the end they always mic u, so i have never passed 60%-70% volume... once we played outside in a big festival and there i just used a cabin, although once again... u will be miced so no need to go crazy with the volume in the rehearsal studio i have no problem, and our drummer plays heavy
Ac15 is the way to go! Have one myself and with the master volume on about a quarter of its max, it's loud enough to overpower the drums... Takes pedals very well, and has a very warm clean sound, what you can't get from those 'VR' amps..
@MrTimothyWatts - It's comments like yours that restore our faith in humanity. If even one man sells his Xbox to buy a guitar amp, then we consider our mission accomplished. Godspeed to you, sir! -PGS Video Crew
Im quite fond of the 30c2, I throw a DS1 in front of it with the gain real low so its literally a nice sparkle instead of a roar it really brings out the highs without effecting the natural sound of the amp
That first song is a song called No Matter What, originally by a band called Bad Finger and then Def Leapard also covered it on their previous album called YEAH.
WOW!! What a great amp. I love that unmistakable Vox chime. IMHO,Vox has been outdoing Marshall by providing a solid, rock-n-roll combo amp that also includes reverb and tremolo. G.ear A.cquisition S.yndrome

Thats why im getting the vox night train nt15c1 instead. its a 15 watt ALL TUBE combo WITH an effects loop and footswitchable channels. i did a comparison at a music store between the vox night train nt15c1 g2and the ac15c1, and they sounded exactly the same harmonically. the eq was a little different when set flat but otherwise they sound EXACTLY the same. the night train has the same chimey cleans and smooth distortion. and its only $500 whereas the ac15 is $630. IMHO the ac15 has no advantages over the nt15c1 g2. so just consider the vox night train before you cash out on the ac15. just a thought
Hiya ProGuitar, thanks for your quick response, there's alot of conflicting information on the specs on official dealers of these Vox's, that's why I'm all mixed up...Nice demo's as well, very helpful, thanks very much!!
Love this amp. Actually bought one because of this video, didn't even play it first (I tried to find one locally but they have been selling out fast). I went on a whim and I knew if PGS was carrying it and promoting it that it had to be a pretty darn good amp - well IT IS! I have to say the video sold me on this guy but it actually sounds better live (no disrespect to PGS or Andy's playing, you just don't get the true tone from a youtube) - with my LP cranked up I thought is sounded less fizzy
yes, I use a A+B pedal to switch between or play through both channels. I managed to control a Kicking boost by adding the normal channel in. I like it! :)
We use the VOX AC15C1 for rhythm and some lead - great sounding amp, especially for the price! Search Riversyde - Knocking On My Door to listen to the cleans and the crunch. We never had a problem with it at any venue over the past year - perfect combo!
Thanks again for your demo~ I pulled the trigger and got one! The tone on my AC15C1 is so much better then my old fender hotrod deluxe. It breaks up at a really good point with both my tele's... I like to keep it rather clean for shows, and when it does break up it still sounds fantastic. Live show volume was just fine! I am still trying to dial in my 3 pickup SG. I mean, it sounds great for driving rock but I can't seem to dial in clean tones to find that sweet clean sound the tele's have.
@jldkrank : i've only tried the bright cap mod on the Top Boost channel, because it's useful for overdrive/distortion pedal and I use the normal channel only for clean tone. I have to say that the "clean" tone of the TB channel isn't too affected by the mod ...at a good volume (master and volume above 9 hours). It's still sparkling enough to stay in the Vox world.
Awesome video review as always by PGS!! One thing I would love is a db comparison for the AC15 & AC30 versions. *basic decibel level comparison dimed *decibel levels just before breakup, clean settings on each channel *decibel level of AC15 dimed & AC30 tone at same db level as AC15 (tone comparison at same db level) Sorry to be excessive, but I'm sure you get a lot of questions about volume levels for both of these amps in regards to what cleans you can get when playing with a drummer.
I love how he always plays punk rock in his demos , the buzzcocks ?!?! That was awesome and I want this amp but wondering if I should get the ac 30 for more loudness but when I tres it at the store it seemed damn loud but how does it hold up against hard drumming is the question
I've had this amp for about a month and it has seriously made me a better player. With a low watt tube amp, you can really learn how to ride the point of "breakup" as you play. My dynamics and the way that I hit notes with my pick hand have totally improved.
360p Andy is the "original Andy"
i thought he was gonna play heartbreaker from led zeppelin at the beginning of the video from that first note
the amp really gets that tone.
vizcacha5 I am pretty sure he is playing "No Matter What" by Badfinger
Literally my exact thought
😂
CONCUR....HAD ME AT THE FIRST NOTE ALSO...
This guy has an awesome narrator voice
Great amp, don't listen to the people who will say you HAVE to upgrade the speaker, or get the handwired version. This amp sounds awesome right out of the box.
You can't really "upgrade" the speaker anyway. It's a Greenback! Anything else is a downgrade, except maybe an Alnico Blue or an old Fane.
Ian Dorto
It is a great amp for both clean and dirty tones. The only knock I have is that it does not take pedals very well, especially with a Les Paul.

CC C yeah, the ac15 does not have much clean headroom which makes it not so great for pedals. I got the ac15 because I love vox tube amp drive and Im not a "pedal person".
Yes, the olny problem that have this amp, also in my opinion especially whith fuzz pedals. But with A Booster sounds amazing.
+CC C with a bit of fiddling you can make it work. I've gotten some killer drive tones out of a cranked AC15 with a tube screamer and a RAT in front.
Ive owned that amp for 4 years, and ive never been able to play it "cranked up" with both master and top boost on max. My neighbours would call the cops...

just buy attenuator
Well, ask someone else to play it “cranked up” maybe your neighbor won’t call the cops!
@@alfanhilmi1574 You will have to modify the amp to speaker connection and add another output splitter.
still my favorite video intro riff! No Matter What. love that tune

Buzzcocks at 2:55/ For what it's worth the riff at the beginning is from No Matter What by Badfinger.
Stefan Kozlowski which song by the buzzcocks?
To Mi "Ever Fallen in Love"...
No better guitar tone on the planet than the sounds for this video. I just hear it and think “that’s it! That’s the sound. No if’s, ands or buts”
Agree wholeheartedly. This amp sounds unMatchlessable. It is the sound of music.
Great demo! From Badfinger to Buzzcock! Perfect. Sold!
Not everyday you hear the Stampeders in a guitar demo video! Thanks for that!
It was Badfinger actually 👍🏻
@@ProGuitarShopDemos YES! It did sound similar to a Stampeders song.
Thanks for playing the Buzzcocks!

i do believe after watching hours of gear demos, that andy has heard and can play every song in existence.
awesome demo. Andy's got to be the best demoer online. :)
I love the sparkling tones of this amp! Sounds very nice to me!

Kudos to Vox for developing this amp.

Thumbs up for Bad Finger's "no matter what" in the intro... an EPIC song that is quite obscure

@speedRickspeed - Shouldn't be a problem unless the other guitarist has a 100 watt stack or something. In that case you might need reinforcement.
Andy you are the best spokesman, player/gear adviser . Love your clips.

Early 70s Powerpop!! my favourite.
Plug into the Top Boost channel, crank the volume and set the master where it's comfortable. That's all we did!
c1 has the new speaker and new features explained in the vid, well worth it
Im in love with my mim tele plugged into this!

Love the Buzzcocks bit especially as Steve Diggle is one of my neighbours. Greetings from the UK.

I really like the settings shown on screen. Nice PGS!
love it when you play ‘no matter what you are’ from badfinger!
I have a c1 and love it. Everyone I know who has a cc1 didn't love it until it was modded in some way. I have felt no need to mod my amp at all.

I could listen to that amp the whole day through.
The celestion greenback really makes this amp complete
No that's actually exactly why they call it a Tone CUT. It's the same as a guitar's tone knob. It just rolls off the highs.

lol . .great . .playing the Buzzcocks . . .nice touch . .
hey guys, BEFORE YOU BUY THIS AMP, FYI, READ THIS. As a fellow guitar tone enthusiast, i love the vox ac15c1, its so chimey and the smooth breakup of the el84s is nice. the only complaint i have is theres no effects loop. so any effects that you'd normally use after distortion in the signal chain will sound distorted.
Moss Gridley it has no dirt channel so as long as od’s are before your delay you’ll be fine. It’s good to use loop when you use the dirt from the amp.
this is a lot better than the earlier ac15 demo.
This was my favourite amp before the Bugera V22! Yeah!
Hiya ProGuitar, thanks for your quick response, there's alot of conflicting information on the specs on official dealers of these Vox's, that's why I'm all mixed up...Nice demo's as well, very helpful, thanks very much!!

yes, I use a A+B pedal to switch between or play through both channels. I managed to control a Kicking boost by adding the normal channel in.
I like it! :)
man, he's got that look when he talks that says, "yeah, I own this shit and it's fucking badass".
We use the VOX AC15C1 for rhythm and some lead - great sounding amp, especially for the price! Search Riversyde - Knocking On My Door to listen to the cleans and the crunch. We never had a problem with it at any venue over the past year - perfect combo!
I love it so much. I have a vox pathfinder 15r, and my next aquisition is this amazing amplifier.
In Brazil, it cost about 1400 dollars.

Gotta love the AC15
I wonder is that a picture of Andy (on the right) rocking out in the rec room at 1:56.
Nice. Yummy tones and great playing as usual.
Hope you can demo the new Vox AC15VR sometime in the future.
*basic decibel level comparison dimed
*decibel levels just before breakup, clean settings on each channel
*decibel level of AC15 dimed & AC30 tone at same db level as AC15 (tone comparison at same db level)
Sorry to be excessive, but I'm sure you get a lot of questions about volume levels for both of these amps in regards to what cleans you can get when playing with a drummer.
Bought it, love it.
I love how he always plays punk rock in his demos , the buzzcocks ?!?! That was awesome and I want this amp but wondering if I should get the ac 30 for more loudness but when I tres it at the store it seemed damn loud but how does it hold up against hard drumming is the question
I love that Andy plays guitar without a pick...all fingers baby....the way to go.
@TheSkyLineBand1 The amp has 2 separate inputs so you'd have to buy an A/B switch (stompbox) in order to footswitch the top boost.
