Wow, Tara is such an incredible speaker I could listen to her talk about this for at least another hour. And Caleb once again being the perfectly balanced host for his guest!! I love seeing someone use their platform to influence real change on issues he’s clearly passionate about.
the renter strike is so important especially for establishing affordable housing nationwide and support for unhoused people-awesome guest and conversation
Caleb thank you so much for having this holistic conversation. I feel like I'm often screaming into the void, and it's so comforting to know that someone like you is bringing these topics forward. -love, a Calebrity from CA
Listening to this in Salt Lake City and tears came to my eyes. Rent prices are soaring. She was so well spoken and intelligent and empathetic. Inspired me to look into what I can do here. We recently have started a healthcare union but it has been struggling to take off
I really appreciate the political conversations that happen on this podcast. I have been feeling similarly disillusioned by the national politics, but it is always refreshing and grounding to listen to these conversations.
In Oklahoma, there were apartments that were selling the water rights to the bigger businesses that essentially were allowed to do whatever they wanted and charge whatever to people in leases unable to leave. The month they bought the water rights to the apartment my husband and I lived in a few years ago, the bill went from $70 to $145. They actually told us they refused to give us any documentation of the water usage by the end of it. Originally they tried to tell us there was no way to access the information because it was based on each building and that it was a breach of privacy, and after 6 months of fighting, I sent them documentation proving that was a lie and also coordinating with my all the neighbors to get their permissions as well to send in. After that, the excuse they gave was they needed permission from the owners so they couldn't supply proof, and when i got that, they just outright told me they refused. I spent 100s of hours on the phone and fighting them only to just have them outright refuse documentation because they knew it would prove they were taking advantage of everyone. Because the actually reality was there was no way on the month the business was sold that there was just 100% increase in usage, I had fought them from the first month until we moved out. 100s of people in leases who were legally not allowed to move were just charged whatever these big businesses wanted.
I’m gonna need the calebrities who need this podcast to be 100% comedy to hush up a little. They were really speaking on real shit and I’m with Caleb I’m hanging on to every word 👏🏾
Love this convo. Been looking for an apartment in my hometown in California and can’t find anything decent for a 1bd 1bt under 1500. I refuse to pay 1500 for a 300 sq ft studio that’s insane. The rent situation in my city is awful, and I make above minimum wage. I’m thankful that at 26 my parents let me live at home still and I pay them rent. But the market is crazy. They keep making “luxury apartments” and nothing affordable
Hey just a correction - there are landlords who do support tenant rights. And they can be the biggest ally because they can turn around and say I’m doing it, why can’t you? It’s the power of endorsement as well. If you can say hey you meet our standards and we’ll send people/business your way. This also works to split the “opposition” because you’re taking away from their bottom line. It doesn’t seem like KC is ready for this part yet, but I hope they do so in the future. It’d be great to see union supported/endorsed communities for when you are looking for places to live.
well. you lost me when Caleb asked whats the end goal and the end goal was basically: we dont have one. each of us had a different one. and we're just dreaming and hoping. This is how movements die. There needs to be an end goal everyones working towards, and once achieved you tackle the next.
I live in michigan and am having trouble finding news about rent strikes going on here. My closest tenants union hasn’t posted about it and our slumlords are still exploiting us with impunity. Shits really just getting worse out here. One of our worst slumlords is spreading rumors about the homeless, organizing for increased police presence, trying to start a VIGILANTE TASKFORCE, and skating around on rollerblades taking pictures of the homeless and harassing the orgs that help them. His facebook is giving very much Taxi Driver. Anyway I got side tracked. i’m inspired by you guys’ work in a big way. So, anybody know what area its happening in?? Heeelp
I have arrived. Greetings to my fellow Calesbians & Calebrities. We are in for a good show this afternoon & eve.
yupppppppp

the renter strike is so important especially for establishing affordable housing nationwide and support for unhoused people-awesome guest and conversation
As a social worker who already enjoyed your podcast, you’ve doubled my admiration at this point! Great guest!

She is so well spoken.
What a cool episode. In the last few years it’s been hard to feel super politically optimistic but it’s really great to hear positivity in your talks.
I will be stealing your dentists joke immediately, tysm
I'm starting to think Caleb has a sponsor with IKEA with the amount of new sets we be getting weekly at this point 😅
Oz behind the curtain: These are Headgum’s studios, they have different sets because it’s a network that records a bunch of podcasts.
I got my rent increase yesterday so this episode is quite timely. I joined my local tenant action committee and ready 2 radicalize!!!!!!

I obviously adore the funny episodes but episodes like these are so important and it just makes me love so true even more

Thiiiiiissssss is what people need to be doing with their podcasts. Such a good episode.

Caleb, best episode yet!
You’re the only comedian with good politics
Certainly the only one confident enough to address it!

Stumbling into my house with my bakery scones and mocha chai latte I got to study with, listening to the opening snippet like 🥹 that’s me
